  • Hi gang...back again....this week's suggestion was by our lovely Sheila from our Eagle Ukes group. This classic Bill Withers song is so suitable for our present times. The original version is considerably slower than this cover version and involves some tricky passing chord changes. I decided to remove these passing chords and keep things simpler with just C, F and G chords....by doing this I felt the tempo could be much more upbeat and therefore uplifting ( hopefully ).
As usual , the download link is below so please feel free to print it off and play along....you could play this at what ever speed you wish and change the strumming pattern/ rhythm to one that suits you best.
The strumming pattern listed has a typing error and should be
DUDUDUDU though you'll see me interspersing this with D-DUDUDU
so feel free to add your own vibe.
As ever, thanks to everyone new and old that follow this channel and I can only hope that I can be of some help...please leave your comments as I love hearing from you all and spreading the Uke love...if you like this please feel free to subscribe and share with others you feel may like it..let's spread the uke love...all my very best wishes....Graham X

Thanks so much for your lovely comment Stephen....I must admit at first I thought it may be a bit dull and tricky but by removing the passing chords and making it more up tempo I think it really works well.
All the very best to you and yours...:)

Thank you this Graham. Your instructions are really helpful, especially for a beginner like me! I use a felt pick for strumming so is it ok for me to follow your strumming suggestions or should I try something else?

No problem using a felt pick Diane and you can still follow the strumming patterns with a pick....enjoy your uke and always have fun...😊💕❤️🎵🎶

    Very nice well sung.
Just on minor point you appear to make an octave when you do the chorus, am I hearing you right? If so is it part of the song?
    Thanks

You can just sing this in the same register all the way through Harry but Bill leaps an octave after the first verse and stays there but I just vary it as singing high is a bit of a strain these days....:)

Hello Mr. Hall! Thank you so much for your amazing singing and playing. I'm currently a senior in high school and I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about the ukulele for my research. If you don't have the time I understand but if you do great and have a lovely day.

@@nickleighton6627 ...hi Nick....I felt great when I stumbled upon the ukulele nearly 20/years ago....I had played guitar but never felt comfortable with playing 6 strings with small hands making some chords difficult to play...the uke is so much easier due to its 4 strings and smaller size making playing chords far easier and it has such a ' happy sound'...that I find so uplifting and that feeling has never changed over the years...

..I do believe playing any musical instrument is beneficial for the brain from having to learn the instrument which is something that is never completed as we carry on learning throughout our lives...ie...there is no end point which is wonderful.
I have not researched the effect of playing an instrument but feel it is within most people to play an instrument and there's such a wide variety to choose from...the ideal would be to let young children try a full range of instruments to see which resonate with them...

    • @EagleUkes
      @EagleUkes  3 роки тому

The most challenging part of any instrument is the time needed to devote to practice...people can watch and listen to someone play and may think that their natural ability has enabled then to play well...whereas the truth for most is thousands of hours of practice...obviously some find learning easier than others but all need regular practice.

I should have said "...you appear to make an octave leap when..."

Trying to replicate Bill when he goes high but I just mix it up as the high register is a bit of a strain these days...haha...hope you're keeping OK Harry...:)

It sounds fine, you certainly have the knack of moving smoothly from the lower to the higher register and back - will try to emulate you if I can.
