      Even with an alternate text of "Pay 6 colorless mana, draw 6 cards" it would still be wildly broken. That's with just a simple equipment of equip cost 1. Even if they replace most of the payoff on the card with "Scry 1", that becomes "Pay 6 colorless mana, Scry 6", which is bearable but dangerous. That assumes WotC has the stones to actually ERRATA a popular card rather than outright banning it, which they've so far said many times they won't do, even when the health of the format is at stake.

    I don't like how in LotR we got a really good new anti-creature tool in Stern Scolding and anti-card advantage tool in Orcish Bowmasters and Nadu cares about neither. It feels like we're getting weirdly templated, over-stated creatures in order to beat all of the answer cards that were created to deal with the last generation of nonsense (Stern Scolding was designed when Lurrus was legal in Modern.)

    Hi Vince!
    I run the cEDH Discord for my city (and a few other surrounding cities as well) and we had practice for an upcoming tournament this past Tuesday. We had 1 Nadu player. While some people complain about ThOracle in cEDH, I wholeheartedly believe Nadu is worse for the same reasons you stated in your video. ThOracle will inevitably end the game, while Nadu takes 10 - 15 minute turns. Out of the 4 games we had against the Nadu player, he won 0. However, he did run down the clock and cause 2 rounds to go to time. I don't mind cool combo decks as long as they have a definitive way to win. Nadu does not, and watching the Nadu player take long turns unable to exactly say "Okay, I can win now" I think will cause some discussion in the Commander RC, especially for casual play.

    • @eewweeppkk
      @eewweeppkk 3 місяці тому +1

      Okay so the problem is that he isn't good enough for cEDH but his turns take a long time? There are dozens of casual commanders whose turns take a ridiculous amount of time. My friends and I did a $50 budget challenge recently and one player built an Alaundo deck that takes 10 minute turns on EVERYBODY'S turn. This play pattern has existed for years alongside much worse play patterns. The issue with Nadu is blown way out of proportion - they are not the strongest card to be released and they are not the most annoying card to be released. If the RC makes a ruling on it I couldn't do anything but shake my head at how fragile the playerbase is.

    • @DGDevastation
      @DGDevastation 3 місяці тому +8

      @eewweeppkk fragile? I mean, you kind of displayed that yourself with this comment, but sure. No, the problem is his play patterns are repetitive and not enjoyable being the one (or ones) across from it. Especially in a competitive format like Modern, the time in rounds are there for a reason, and Nadu abusing almost all of it is not conducive for a fun, enjoyable environment.

    • @eewweeppkk
      @eewweeppkk 3 місяці тому +2

      @@DGDevastation No need to take it personally, buddy. Once gain - there are dozens of commanders that have repetitive play patterns. There are dozens of commanders that are more powerful than Nadu. The meta game hasn't even had a chance to adjust. Anyone calling for a ban is doing so purely based on emotion and with disregard to the rest of the cards that have been left untouched for years. I don't know if it should get booted out of modern - I'm saying commander because you brought up cEDH.

      I’ve been playing a CEDH Nadu list recently and have gotten insanely quick with the deck because I made a custom mat. Has two vertical bars on it and in the three columns I have “Two triggers,” “One trigger,” and “Done.” Makes it clean, easy to process for everyone, just good all around. And people playing against it? Honestly counter the first Nadu cast, or counter/destroy the Shuko, Lightning Greaves, and Umbral Mantle. Killing the equipment will go a LONG way as recursion isn’t really much of a thing in the Nadu lists being played aside Endurance.

    I can't for the life of me really understand 2 things about this card specifically. First of all, why twice per turn? It's such an odd stipulation that just gives it unnecessarily high potency. Like, this solves nothing about it's design space. Blinking Nadu is still a thing for people to get around the restriction, so just pretend like you're trying. This thing deserves to whiff more than it's allowed to ignore with how it is. If they wanted this restriction at twice to actually mean anything, you'd have to go full Yu-Gi-Oh, just straight up phrase it as precisely as possible like "You can only activate this effect granted by a Nadu, Winged Wisdom twice per turn" or something, which I don't think anyone wants. Secondly, why do the lands go untapped? That's just asking, begging for trouble in the most obvious way imaginable. It's truly the sign of something rancid abrewin', when even I could take one good look at this thing, and on first glance go "Ew, this thing is kinda gross".

    The same goes for nantuko, there are cards that basically do the same, like felidar retreat or scute swarm. So the most logic option and best one is to simply ban Natu and the problem no longer exists. Other options are banning teferi so people people who like the deck can still play it but you can interact during the combo and stop it.

    About roman numerals. Romans had fractional ways to measure, which sadly were based on 1/12 or a uncia (meaning 'ounce').
    Many of the following names are based on how the fractions reduced: sextan, quadrans, triens are 1/6, 1/4 and 1/3 respectively.
    So 6/12 or 1/2 is a semis. I don’t know if you can say “II S” or how to properly express 2.5. Clearly uncia were used for volumes/mass/lengths and maybe not integrated in any other way? (I’m not a roman scholar, just doing some light searching)

    As a cEDH player with Nadu in the 99: Not being able to quickly take your turn is a Pilot issue. You should know what your cards do, and what your plan of action will do. Have a good way to measure your triggers, and the appropriate amount of tokens/etc for the actions you want to be taking.
    small edit: not every card translates to MTGO well, as well. Creature combo decks are definitely in this category, as they require many actions. I concede the point that this is better in Paper.

  • @sachadufourjean6761
    @sachadufourjean6761 3 місяці тому +4

    You should also mention the fact that it's also extremely problematic in EDH. Lightning Greaves exists, so the Shuko ban would not change anything. Also, because it's a multiplayer format, Nadu will trigger once again for each of the other players' turns. Prophet of Kruphix is banned in EDH, so is Paradox Engine and Golos, Tireless Pilgrim, which all have a similar vibe to the bird, all for their own reason. I think, and I really hope, that the Commander RC bans Nadu.

    I've seen this being thrown into Hammertime and Amulet... i play Hammer, Mono White is still better, Nadu just gives you an alternative line to the Hammer, takes away from the main game plan but doesn't really solve any of the matchups or weaknesses of the deck. In Amulet it's a little clunky but Nantuko is amazing. The all in combo versions of the deck look good but not unbeatable.
    Definitely not a Hogaak scenario but a powerful card. We have enough interaction in the format to keep it at bay and the deck struggles from having to play some bad cards to make it work.
    I've played against it in paper and yeah honestly if this eats a ban it's cuz people take 10 min turns with it and it makes for a very poor viewing and playing experience. you do have to watch them and make sure they don't accidentally activate the same creature more than twice and all that, it's kinda like eggs, just super boring to be the opponent cuz you have to watch cuz I have seen it fizzle a couple times already.

    I would argue that nadu is worse than hogaak. hogaak was a good example of unintentional overpoweredness, as hogaak not only costs a lot, but also can't be cast using mana, which are reasonable drawbacks at first glance, though they proved to be easily exploitable. but nadu, just by playing him, combos effortlessly. he is hard to remove (cant be bolted), provides value when removing him, and the limits placed on him are inconsequential in the face of the sheer value he provides. he combos so effortlessly that he fits in any deck, at least hogaak needed a deck built around him for him to be powerful.
    nadu feels like a sol ring or paradox engine for green and blue. he fits in any deck that can run him, and just works. he is pure value and easily exploitable, to the point of absurdity.
