- This is my full review about the Casiotone MT-70, a keyboard from 1982. It is one of 6 Casio keyboards that uses sine waves instead of multipulse square waves. It has a memory system with barcode reader pen, 20 Instruments and 10 Rhythms.

Final Performance brought a tear to my eye... had no idea there was such a wonderful synthesizer gathering dust in my closet
This is the most beautiful synth review I’ve ever seen. The aesthetics, the information, and the voice are all very easy to digest. Thank u
My grandmothe gave me Casio MT70 when O was a child. It's almost 40 years old now. I love it and it is still working. 🥰
Build quality on these early casios is phenomenal.
For me it‘s always so impressive that you get all those parts together again after you‘ve ripped them apart.
٨٨.
unless he records the taking apart after the sound demonstration and just never gets it back together lol
😂
You are very professional in your narration and video skills. Not to mention your music ability. You have a unique channel, I love it.
I just picked one of these up. What awesome, organic and unusual sounds out of an old keyboard they're all but giving away now. All the sounds are pretty useful in one respect or another.
Brillant demonstration! I love the MT-70. I had one in 1982. It still plays wonderfully.
I love sine!!! Need
This would be great to circuit bend
I found one for 20 bucks. Im unsure since ive already found a casio sampling keyboard
This is an incredible demo! It feels less like a product review/guide and more like a legitimate piece of educational media. I may have to get one of these bad boys
The combination of dials, buttons and sliders on that two tone case is sublime!
The old casio’s are so beautiful. So much fun to collect them.
Haunting melodies made for this video. @Keenonkeys really does fantastic job of defining this keyboards speciality. Definitely a favourite ;)

Very educational channel. And I appreciate the disassemblies. Always nice to see what's under the hood.
Great channel and demo. I remember getting this one for Christmas in the 80s. Wouldn’t mind finding one again for some nostalgia.
I would have LOVED this for Christmas in 1982!
Those drums are so punchy, i love it
Bah-rill-iant!
.
Seems to have some rather haunting, somber sounds. Very eclectic bit of kit there! Thank you so much for doing these - they seem almost essential now for those of us out here in the wild looking to find and reclaim some of these anachronistic bits of the past. Well, for me they do!
I'm pretty sure I could score an entire JRPG soundtrack with this thing... Awesome video.
It was my very 1st synth in the 80s and I loved it. This review took me back to my youth. Thank you very much for this excellent video.
The first keyboard I ever played. Wow thanks for the memories.
I love your videos, another level of quality really.
Excellent from your biggest Casio fan from Northern Ireland. My first 3 was the CT-403, VL-1 and MT40, now have around 12
This keyboard really sounds great, I love your song at 16:54. Fantastic presentation and review as usual.
is it a cover? i feel like i have heard it before? regardless, it's beautiful
Thanks for the video! The Casio MT-70 was my first keyboard and entry into electronic music. I spent many hours scanning music books with that barcode reader. Great memories indeed!
I love your playing!!! Great channel
I have used this and MT 65.
Enjoyed playing .. First popular electronic keyboards.
Thank you for bringing this to the present day ..
You are the true content Creator. Keep going you will be soon getting lots of subscribers...
I love my Casio MT 70!! I've used it on several tracks. Awesome review!!
Tonight the Stars Will Speak how did you connect to pc?
Oh was waiting for this thank you ^.^
Amazing review and production. Subscribed instantly. Well done! You presented everything in a clear, concise and professional manner. I owned one of these but never liked the sounds. It was more of a novelty toy, but fun anyway!
Thanks for the memories. Put many hours on this as a kid.
That piano preset sounded nothing like a piano at all, but it did sound AMAZING!
Thanks for mentioning the 1000p. A shockingly underrated synth that works great alongside organ and string sounds, lends itself to live performance, and pairs wonderfully with delay effects; it would be exciting to see a review of this if you have one.
It's very impressive to have a sequencer in for 1982!
Very nice playing btw, loved your Jazz organ demo :)
Best presentation I've ever seen.
I love this video, I bout a mint condition MT-70 off of Ebay a while ago and it is am amazing instrument to play. You really make the MT-70 come alive in this video
beautifully made video! and very informative. just subscribed.
Stunning sounds from this thing
Your videos are fantastic! Thanks a lot.
your videos are wonderful!!
Bro what? This channel ❤️
what a cozy video. subscribed!
That cosmic flute sounds awesome! This keyboard sounds really awesome! I could totally see using this as a portable organ of sorts.
Edit: I just realized how much I used the word "awesome" xD
That organ sounds amazing, much better than my Yamaha keyboard from the same year
great neat review! why did i find this channel so late? you're also a really fine musician btw!
I feel like this channel doesn't have as many subs as it should.
Most of these keyboards wouldn't produce a note low enough to really merit one, so idunno.
You're damn right about it. It's super high quality channel, but looks like it only started so I guess it has good future.
I just subbed it. One more. :)
Noel Goetowski I appreciate your comment. Made me laugh!
I just did. :)
Love how you do the editing cuts to the beat. :) Makes sense for a "music channel".
So smooth this synth, I love it.
i just got myself a CT 501 yesterday. i love it wow.
5:55 omg this is The nicest sound I’ve Heard.... I want this keyboard right now for my ambient jams. That sound and large reverb, delay...
You can get those sounds in other ways, but this keyboard does have some pretty nice sounds
My grandfather has a MT-70, I remember playing with it when I visited them during the holidays. If I recall correctly, this was the second keyboard I put my hands on, the first being a Casio SA-38 PCM-based keyboard. I rembember thinking it sounded kinda weird, as I had never heard anything like it before. Never really touched the memory stuff as I kept myself sufficiently entertained playing with the chords. Never knew about the barcode reader!
Loved the song at the end. Did you compose that? I keep getting back to listen to it.
I was given one of these for a Christmas gift when I was a kid; it's still somewhere in my parent's basement. Perhaps time to revive it!
great video!
This channel shows the ART of making (electronic) music... raw talent !
Beautiful song at the end.. 🙂
♥️♥️♥️ As always, you make the magic with the Casio keyboards. Thank you very much for your job! Cheers! 👍👍👍
Thank you UA-cam for recommending me to this treasure ❤️
the synth bells made me instantly smile wow
I still have this keyboard and works fine. Lost the pen. I learned to play shine on your crazy diamond and confortably numb on this machine in 87 or 88. Then my father bought a second hand Korg Poly 800. great video.
Dude, I am really loving your entire video style here! If you would ever be interested, I would love to know your opinion and what you could do with the CASIO CT-S300.
Nice loved the short but awesome Goonies theme from the movie you made me want to watch it.
I wasn't aware of that. With which instrument did I play this?
myne arrived today. Totally different sound respect to my dear MT-65. Of course, I love this keyboard too!
Nice composition style
organs and vibrafone sound pretty nice!
Thank you for the video! I have on of those that need a cleanup of the keys, and I am really NOT looking forward to open it and remove all the boards to reach the keys. I already had a hard time with another mt-46. But hopefully with your video I will find the stregth...
Thank you that you open my eyes (when i'll look again to my oregon it not be the same )😊
You sound like Liam Neeson pretending to be German.
Liam got into voice over work to tide him over
Schindler's List
Whats the point with your comment, he is cool
@@christiansanden8005 I didn’t say he wasn’t.
F you that's so accurate 😂😂
I friend of mine used to have one of these, while I had the MT-68. Even though the MT-68 had broader timbral and rhythmic options, I always thought that the MT-70 had the best organ sounds between the keyboards from that time. And it also looked really nice.
Several in the MT series had lovely aesthetic design. The MT-45, to me, is a standout.
Ever seen the MT-41?
What's the difference?
Would love to have this guy in my band! Also to see what he could do with a Moog! Don’t know if he has done a video on one? Not sure if he’d have time as he’s probably so busy reading project manuals to do such superb and in depth reviews on consumer keyboards.
My mom bought me one of these recently from an old lady who passed away and I've been having so much fun with it. Unfortunately it didn't have the power supply, so I'm running it on batteries, but it's been lasting quite long on them so I can't complain too much..
If you haven't already, you can buy a power supply, just make sure its the right DC voltage (they make universal with changeable voltage) and make sure the tip size is correct (the universals also have changeable tips). I believe in the video he showed it needed 7.5 V. If your supply doesn't have that exact value, try the lowest which is closest and then the next one up if that doesn't work. Typically batteries are 1.5V each so you can use this for reference for the # of batteries you use. If you have any questions feel free to reply.
@@riley1636 thanks, I did in fact buy a power supply about a week after posting this.. I've been driving my wife nuts ever since
@@ANRQAngel glad to hear it! though i guess your wife isnt lol ;)
I need one of these... to go with my Leslie speaker... 🤔
The production value on this is crazy
Great video as usual! You think you'll ever do the Alesis Quadrasynth from 93-94? I picked one up for under $100 and I'm loving it. Thought it would be cool to hear your thoughts on it. Keep up the vids, they're awesome.
I don't think so. But you never know.
I have a quadrasynth in a rack. Got it when it first came out. I always liked it. It has its own unique character!
Oh wow! They were doing that 4 operator FM sound like Yamaha's DX100/21 and PSRs almost a decade earlier!
Could you do a series like you did on the VL-1 for the SK-1? I know it's well known but I want to know the secrets of it's synthesizer, and there's some wacky stuff you can do with the sampling so you could get at least three videos out of it.
I will do a video about the SK-1 in the near future.
I liked how you played Farewell To Cheyenne, from Once Upon A Time In The West, to demonstrate the Banjo sound.
Amazing
@Keen On Keys, is there a showcase about all your keyboards you own? Must be kind of a museum by now. Would love to see a "behind the scene".
Most of the keyboards are kind of stowed away right now. Not a nice look behind the scenes at the moment. But maybe one day I'll get it a little better organized.
I really enjoy your videos, I have a Casio mt210 wich architecture looks very similar, everything works perfectly fine except the rythms plays only hi-hats, maybe it is something common on these old casios?
Currently i am using this keyboard
Awesome video as always! How noiay is the output?? I have some Yamaha PSS of the same age and the outputs are so dirty...
It's OK, just a bit noise, but nothing that bothers me.
Taking it apart is apparently something I didn't realize i wanted! Very cool.
Why do you take these apart, just out of curiosity?
Yes, and I can clean it better that way
I'm loving these small home keyboard videos, +Keen On Keys, and you talked me into adding the PSS-A50 to my collection - it's a lot of fun.
Have you cleaned a Casio MT-68 or CASIO MT-400V? I've been meaning to do mine. The action feels a bit stiff, like there might be dirt in them, but maybe it's just age. If there's as many little bits as there are on this one, I might not bother :) I'm bound to lose something.
I have two Portasound PS-3s - I bought a spare. I enjoyed your videos on that one too.
I haven't opened them until now, but I'm planning to do a Video about the MT-65 (which is the same as the MT-68) in the near future.
@@KeenOnKeys, Excellent. Thanks. I'll look forward to it.
i think the mt-68 is the best mt series casiotone i've used, the mt-70 is much colder sounding but it's by far the best for bell/chime sounds
Still have my MT68 and a PT30
Correct me if I'm wrong here but with Casio 1000P you can recreate all the sounds on MT-70 and many more + arpeggiator. Fantastic synth !
I really liked the arpeggiator on the 1000P - so flexible. Only downside was the lack of external sync - I had to sample and loop it!
Hi! Good video! I have a MT-70 also but it is more or less broken. It sound bad (like static) after pressing three or four keys. Any clue of what can be happening? Thanks
Hey / Hallo. I have one of this one that i am reparing. The main vive works correctly but the drums and the chords accompagnement don't. Any idea about what i should check. Thanks. I love you channel
What fun -- enjoyed the tour. I know nothing about electronics -- is that an unusual amount of boards inside?
Yes it is. Generally from consumer keyboards at this time they had maybe a couple of boards. I had one I fixed awhile back and it had from memory 3 boards. More professional synths or keyboards had a lot more usually
Please, please: Casio SK5 video. With all the sounds!!!
Hi! I just discovered this channel and it was an insta-suscription. But, most important, I'm here looking for help.
I happend to have this keyboard. It was cheap in facebook's marketplase near me and I wanted to practice keyboard for a long time, so it was a win-win situation.
The thin is that it doesnt wark quite well. You see, when I put the Casiochord switch to fingered or On, the first octave and a half doesn't work. But, when it's Off, It kinda works. I press a note repetly, but it just a few times. But, this error happens in all the keys. When, with the switch on or fingered, they work correctly.
Also, the speaker its a bit noisy. I don't know if it's dirty or it's just interfirence.
Thanks to anyone that can help and, again, amazing channel!
wow I'm amazed at how complex this dinky little keyboard is
Good new year 2024😀
I once had a Casio MT 68
Have owned one since early 80's, i agree with all you say about it.
The vibrato is very light on my MT70, do you know how it could be adjusted?
I have used it in recordings and on stage with amplification and the slight 'toy-town' timbre of the voices disappears in those situations. a very endearing keyboard....
I know what you mean. There's probably a way to change it, but I haven't tried out yet. I am quite happy with the light vibrato.
@@KeenOnKeys , Here's why i asked, the vib on your MT70 is heavier than on mine. On my MT70 it's almost not noticeable until you play a chord. A third MT70 belonging to a friends father seems to have the vib set somewhere between the two....
@@fuccasound3897 I used to have an MT-70 (regret selling it now and am looking to get another soon).
One thing I did notice was that the vibrato sounded more intense / heavier when it was set to delayed. Other than that I wouldn't know if it can be changed or not.
@@PianoandKeysStudio i agree with you about the vibrato. As for changing it, i suppose i was imagining there may be a potentiometer on a circuit board somewhere inside it?....
I have the casiotone Mt 68 keyboard
