I love watching your videos for 3 reasons: (1) Your recipes are very delicious (2) you are beautiful and (3) You are very ramah (friendly)! Hahaha! I love sambal, I frequently make it just to accompany many of my home-grown ulam (herbs used as salad. raw or.and boiled) eaten with white rice..I am a Malaysian Malay male who love to cook and eat!!

There is another dried shrimp sambal which happens to be one of my mom's star recipe :P Will share that one day too. And thank you sooo much for supporting Nyonya Cooking's channel. Send a pict of your sambal on facebook okay! Mwaaahhh!
Hi. Enjoyed your nasi lemak. With ref to kuik bahulu , the flour you used us wheat flour. That is the same flour as used for chapatis. Always thought it is plain flour. Viuld u pls clarify. Catherine
I stayed in malaysia for 6 months and this is by far one of my favorite dish. after work Ill go straight to nasi kandar restaurant to order this. thanks!
Hello nyonya. Very strange request I have here, but whilst on holidays in bali I made some friends with the locals. My friend kept sharing his lunch with me even when I said no and I felt bad eating it but he insisted. So many great flavours but there's one I cannot find a recipe for. It was an orange sort of curry sauce that wasnt too thick, with chicken hearts. It was beautiful!
boozled86 Hmmm...I haven't been to Indonesia myself but if I do come across the recipe, perhaps I will do a video of it. Meanwhile you can check with our friends at Masak.TV They have great Indonesian recipes. :D
Hi there! I really LOVE all the cooking videos that you have shared. It's simple and delicious! Great for newbie like me who just started to learn how to cook. :D One question, can I replace dried anchovies with dried shrimp for this recipes? And is Coconut a must?
Thank you!! ^^ I hope the videos can help you :D Yes you can replace with dried shrimps if you like. In fact, you can also not use any anchovies/dried shrimps. But when blending the ingredients, I find adding dried anchovies is essential. Really helps in making it even more delicious. Coconut milk is not a must, you can use water if you like :)
Hi, due to the covid pandemic, I cannot go to Singapore to buy my sambal oelek . Can you please make a video on how to make sambal oelek ? Not too spicy . I love using sambal oelek to stir fry shrimps or sotong ... it is very mildly spice so even those who do not eat chilli like it . Thanks!
The taste will be different for sure :) Belacan doesn't substitute coconut milk. You can add belacan and skip coconut milk, for sure. There is no right or wrong to a recipe. Good luck!
im craving for malaysian food while watching your cooking recipe nyonya.its all here in your videos my favorite malaysian dishes and recipe.im from philippines but love malaysian food. thanks for sharing your videos and recipe. your beautiful face is an addition to your videos.
i liked this one bcos we dont get the prawn paste here in india (belakkan) I should also try wth the tiny prawns they sell here in packets like they do in Malaysia
Hi, can I do without the dried chilli and use chilli padi instead? And can I don't add the coconut milk too, I like my sambal to be really spicy. Thanks!
Lovely! I keep finding the sambal with belachan but never with ikan bilis. Found it at last, thank you!!!! Btw, there's a kaya recipe that only takes 10 minutes because it doesn't use egg whites, only yolks. Works REALLY well.
Nyonya Cooking (Malaysian Recipes) Try and see. In my personal experience, more "eggier" than the typical kaya, but the savings in time really make up for it.
I was wondering if the anchovies won't go tough and unpleasant to eat if you save it for later? it happened to me. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Help please. x
nyonya, i love your recipes but i was wondering if you could show how to make the famous singapore mango cake. We lived in singapore for 22 years and now back home in the states and my family miss it terribly.
Thx for sharing Grace. Been watching your vids - all good posts :) Fresh chillies are in season now. Can I use all fresh chillies instead of dry ones? xoxo
Yes of course :) The recipe is now updated with reasons to why fresh and dried chillies are used. Check it out if you need more details: www.nyonyacooking.com/recipes/sambal-nasi-lemak~HkVJdwiPMcZ7
+Oliver Paranchody Nope. Coconut milk is one of the major ingredient that you cannot replace or omit. As well as the rice, pandan leaves and lemongrass. The others are just side dishes.
khalida92 She said the coconut milk is used to reduce the spiciness of the sambal but never did she mention that it is optional. watch the video again. Likewise, the coconut milk makes it more flavorful.
Yeah it does make it more flavorful. But it is optional actually. Like usually we include belacan (shrimp paste) to add more flavor. Usually Malaysian sambal you see doesn't use coconut milk at all.
Your recipe is very easy and I would like to try it. But my question is, how to estimate the fresh and dry chili if I wanted to cook more and store it? I couldn't get any sambal paste in Paris and I only can buy it in London or Amsterdam.
JC Yin hi JC! I am in Paris too. I sometimes use Harissa chilli paste, available in Franprix and the likes. Or else, blend dried chillis (from the Asian Market at 13th). :D
i will do in Philippines on my holiday so my family can eat a Malaysian and Singaporean foods even they are there. thanks for the easy catching tutorial recipe.

Can we substitude the anchovies with dried shrimp?Thank you.
Nice presentation........I have tried this with my Malaysian colleagues here in the UAE.......
Lovely! I keep finding the sambal with belachan but never with ikan bilis. Found it at last, thank you!!!! Btw, there's a kaya recipe that only takes 10 minutes because it doesn't use egg whites, only yolks. Works REALLY well.
wnose Hope you will enjoy this :) Oh, I saw that recipe but using pure yolks make me cringe a little....wouldn't it taste too "eggy"?
Nyonya Cooking (Malaysian Recipes) Try and see. In my personal experience, more "eggier" than the typical kaya, but the savings in time really make up for it.
When I am really experimental...haha..just afraid that I would throw the whole thing >< But thanks for the tip!!
Thanks for sharing. One question, if I keep it in refrigerator instead of freeze it, how long can I keep it?
Up to 6 months or more, if you freeze it well enough. But seriously, I don't think it can even last 6 days. LOL :P
I was wondering if the anchovies won't go tough and unpleasant to eat if you save it for later? it happened to me. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Help please. x
Looks great thank you
Could the oil be used again in other way/place/dish, after chili paste fried throughly?
Jean Lelong Better not. Oil is best used once and not several times. :)
