3:46 NICK VALENSI, WORLD'S GREATEST DAD: '''Last couple of years I've been doing a lot of personal stuff. Getting up early, having breakfast with the kids, taking them to school, working a bit, picking them up, taking them to the park, smoking a little weed.....'' This cracked me up
You can't put strokes in the same category as arctic monkeys. The strokes led a movement which branched off to arctic monkeys. I put arctic monkeys with such stuff like the killers. The strokes belong with like the really top dogs like radiohead and bob dylan because they LED a movement not followed it like everyone.
Rob Fraser In terms of influence The Strokes are just as pivotal to how alternative rock evolved in the 2000's as Nirvana's was to the 90's. The Arctic Monkeys did what Green Day did, carry the torch for the next era of bands. But there is no surpassing the importance of how the Strokes changed the landscape of music, it's trends, pop culture, and how labels signed bands therefor after. The Libertines were great, but like Kings of Leon, Franz Ferdinand, and many others, they were very much inspired by Julian and company. Btw, this cover is fucking beautiful. Almost brought a tear to my eye.
The strokes music sounds like southern and UK's (Albert Hammond Jr.). And Arctic monkeys is started with sounds like punk/post-punk to present they got americano make their music sound like blues and husky. Both of them always going to perfect their music (as mature). :)
AshtrayAnnie yes, but alex turner himself said that the reason why his band was launched was due to the time he went to a strokes concert and was inspired
I went on a deep search for bands/singers who either covered or sampled this masterpiece from Mr. Lou Reed and wow!.... so many covers and shockingly most of them are damn good, but THIS! Julian does a SPOT ON, PERFECT rendition of “Walk On the Wild Side!” I am VERY impressed! I already love The Strokes and Julian’s solo work but now I can add this to my long list of favorite Strokes/JC work! 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
I wish the Strokes would also cover Velvet Underground's 'Sweet Jane' and 'Rock and Roll.' I think they'd do a great take on both sides. Hopefully, they will cover them some day.🙂
brilliant, this is Art, i absolutely love all of them, Lou Reed, the Strokes, Andy, Velvets, James Dean, NYC all you soul food Miami FLA out in the islands, back rooms and anyone who had anything to do with this yeah ;)
Dammmm Julian u killed me with your band once I heard them I was hooked like a person on cocaine . U guys are one of my favorite bands !!!!! I never get sic of listening to u guys I listen to i guys almost everyday !!!!!
This song becomes more interesting when you realize these are all real people. If you watch Lou Reed's 'Master's' documentary they actually interview the 'Holly' and 'Little Joe' in this song. They were a couple, at least as of 1998 when the documentary was made. All these people are people that hung out at Max's Kansas City in New York in the late 60's-early 70's.
Rightfully so! The 'Monkeys are one of those bands that were inspired by The Strokes. They do a lot of concerts together, and the two bands are pretty tight. Now personally, I prefer The Strokes. But the Monkeys are great guys. I met them all at one of their concerts xD Looking forward to meeting Jules sometime, that would be awesome @_@

Gabrieljcs11, "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" is not a song only about transsexuals. It starts out that way but if you listen further, the following characters come up (no pun intended): Little Joe is a male hustler and Jackie is a meth speed freak. The song is about the counterculture scene of the early 70s.
***** Haha you would be surprised about change in music taste. Back in my Muse days I could not FATHOM how I would ever like another band better than Muse, their lyrics were somewhat cryptic (back then anyway) but still sounded cool and the music was just mindblowing. Yet here I am. Still, it may be different for you :) TVU is amazing of course and I actually like Nico's voice a lot. Venus in Furs is so jarring but it sets up the twisted (BDSM hehehe) mood so perfectly. I really like Sunday Morning, I'll Be Your Mirror and Waiting For the Man. And Heroin of course.
***** It''s fun talking to you too! Sounds like you listen to a lot of older music. Do you sing/play any instruments by chance? Although for me playing instruments didn't really introduce me to that much music, it was more due to friends that I listen to what I do today. BDSM... it's probably a fun subject to write about. I'm sure you don't have to enjoy it to like the song LOL. Where are you from btw? I'm from the US.
***** No worries, your English is great. Way better than my Spanish or French anyway, although I can speak another language fluently :p I seriously need to visit South America some time. You should keep on playing! Either practice or get a tutor or something. Super, SUPER worth it. Just a few years ago when I started college I realized how much I missed playing piano. Now I play guitar quite often and practice singing as often as I can. I do know Doctor Who but I don't watch it, I know the fans are crazy about it but it never clicked for me. Breaking Bad though I think is a modern masterpiece, it's soooo good! I actually liked Walt, which makes me think i respect competency/power/ambition over kindness (at least in fictional people). Do you watch Game of Thrones?
***** yes gore, but no BDSM... hahahha. actually that's completely normal so nevermind. you should start reading it anyway, realy a tremendous series and watching it doesn't tell you the whole story. in fact season 5 deviated/skipped ahead quite a bit. GRRM is SO SLOW at writing though, so be careful... you might get addicted to the series :D my friend showed me some awesome Indie bands last night, I was wondering if you knew about them: The Morning Benders, Beach House, and Born Ruffians. Also, have you heard of Tame Impala?
Alejandro Rexos crooner en la musica se aplica a cantantes que suelen tener la voz grave como nick cave , paul anka, david bowie etc.. y filete es un término para decir que algo es bueno ya que el filete es de las mejores carnes., pura lógica
I stop to read that what have you been doing photo, nick valenky statement was really funny but Nikolai seems to get a little depressed when the strokes are on a break
Produced by bowie, sing by lou reed, cover by the strokes . Legends! and a tribute to andy warhol. Amazing.
Andy warhol's art sucks...
Super Music
Andy Warhol was a close friend and collaborator of Lou Reed’s. He produced The Velvet Underground’s (Lou Reed’s former band) debut album.
Dani no tienes ni puta idea, cateto... financiado por warhol lou reed se permitió una brillante discografía, alejada de lo convencional y muy variada.
Nicolle Sabbatini: I couldn't agree more with what you said.👍

Yeah, who can help but love Valensi!❤
I'd love to hear JC sing any Doors song.
:O yes!
would be amazing!!!
there is one vídeo of him singong people are strange with another band but is not very good
+Codgerism HE did! at beach goth 2015 I was there he played it with the growlers!!! its on youtube. I have it on video as well
I hear that much more in his voice than Lou Reed. I'm glad other people think so. He has a great voice in his own right of course.
Can we have a thought for Lou Reed here ? One of the true heroes of Rock'n'Roll and the biggest influence on Jules's singing.
Rest in Peace ,Lou Reed. X
Can't go wrong with Julian singing Lou
No wonder they picked Julian to do Velvet Underground covers on Vinyl.
this is Lou reed solo
Yeah I know, but still no wonder they picked Julian to cover Velvet Underground for the show Vinyl, because he can sound a lot like Lou Reed.
He said somewhere that Lou Reed was a big influence to his lyric style, so yeah
Lou Reed is way more than an influence, he is the reason Julain does everything he does..
He once tweeted "Lou Reed is the reason i do everything i do"

The strokes belong with like the really top dogs like radiohead and bob dylan because they LED a movement not followed it like everyone.
The Libertines formed a year before the Strokes, but both bands led the garage revival in their respective nations.
Rob Fraser sry to crush your dreams but Pete was super inspired by The Strokes, also their first album was realised year after "is this it"
Rob Fraser In terms of influence The Strokes are just as pivotal to how alternative rock evolved in the 2000's as Nirvana's was to the 90's. Man this Valensi guitar solo really hit you the face! Amazing...
this is a special day for me because i came upon this precious video...
Why do i always find myself late at night watching some random underground strokes' video.
Nick Valensi:
" Last couple of years I've been doing a lot of parental stuff.... smoking a little weed," cx that's the Strokes for you!
Brilliant and now back good as ever with bad decisions which is a banger and could easily be off is this it , same old strokes brilliant as ever
I went on a deep search for bands/singers who either covered or sampled this masterpiece from Mr. Lou Reed and wow!.... so many covers and shockingly most of them are damn good, but THIS! Great guitaring here
Love Julian voice......it's just so soothing , mezmorizing!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍
Its amazing how good bands listen to good artists.
I bet the strokes are missing him…way more than we could imagine. Lou was a huge influence on them…RIP Lou Reed...
first time I heard Modern age.. I immediately thought of Lou!.. I know Im not the only one.
being sentimental and looking at their pictures from 2001 until now makes me cry im so sad
THIS COVER IS SO GOOD OK
I definitely agree with you. Lou was probably one of the big influences on the strokes. RIP LOUR REED
I wish the Strokes would also cover Velvet Underground's 'Sweet Jane' and 'Rock and Roll.' I think they'd do a great take on both sides. Hopefully, they will cover them some day.🙂
Wow I was at this show when I was like 15. What an amazing concert.
me encanta como suena esta canción con the strokes
this is gorgeous
Feel soooooooo blessed for finding this song
Goosefuckinbumps
That would be a good name for a and or someth8ng
@@ALLrobotsAreSad ...what?
I love how no one can tell just exactly "how much"Lou reed influenced jules. Its a whole lot :D and ways you can't imagine
Amazing version 🔥🔥🔥
It's so peacefull to hear this song. That beach 70's atmosphere fucking yes !
Lou Rees & The Strokes = beauty
Fucking amazing!
brilliant, this is Art, i absolutely love all of them, Lou Reed, the Strokes, Andy, Velvets, James Dean, NYC all you soul food Miami FLA out in the islands, back rooms and anyone who had anything to do with this yeah ;)
I'm glad they put the "do do doo" in the lyrics, now I can finnaly sing along
im 12 years late to the party but woah this is just so amazing
anytime I get to hear this song is a good time. I am glad that modern bands are influenced by great artists like Lou Reed.
Dammmm Julian u killed me with your band once I heard them I was hooked like a person on cocaine . U guys are one of my favorite bands !!!!! I never get sic of listening to u guys I listen to i guys almost everyday !!!!!

como los amo chabón
i love the line "valium would've helped that bash."
perfect
this is a real gem!!
Rightfully so! The 'Monkeys are one of those bands that were inspired by The Strokes. They do a lot of concerts together, and the two bands are pretty tight. Now personally, I prefer The Strokes. Awesome
Love it!!!
just great
Great video and very good cover!
Only the strokes can take a Lou Reed song and do it justice if not make it better. And Julian is the only man that can match Lou’s level of cool
magic
This is LOVE!
"Doo do doo do doo do do doo..."
Lyrics:
Holly came from Miami, Fla
Hitchhiked her way across the USA.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her leg and then he was she - she said:
Hey Babe, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.
Candy came from out on the island,
In the backroom she was everybodys darling,
But she never lost her head
Even when she was given head - she said
Hey Babe, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.
And the coloured girls go, doo dodoo
Little Joe never once gave it away,
Ev'rybody had to pay and pay.
A hustle here and a hustle there
New York city is no place where they said:
Hey Babe, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.
Sugar plum fairy came and hit the streets
Looking for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo, you should have seen him go go go - they said:
Hey Sugar, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.
Jackie is just speeding away,
Thought she was James Dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash, Valium would have helped that bash - she said:
Hey Sugar, take a walk on the wild side,
Said hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.
And the coloured girls go, doo dodoo
Julian's just too much perfection, it needs to stop.
loooove.

I much prefer Julian vocals to Lou's but Lou was more known for his vision and creativity anyway so pls no hate )) Great cover anyhow!

la voz de julian
es filete cuando canta con su voz de crooner y este temazo le viene como anillo al dedo :)
jaja no entiendo tu idioma :v filete? crooner?
Alejandro Rexos crooner en la musica se aplica a cantantes que suelen tener la voz grave como nick cave , paul anka, david bowie etc.. y filete es un término para decir que algo es bueno ya que el filete es de las mejores carnes., pura lógica
why does this photo montage make me feel like julian is dead : (
I think I'm going to walk my life on the wild side
Can’t obviously beat the original but this will come as close to anyone attempting this cover
the lived-in look will be timelessly sexy, at least in terms of male rock stars
No wonder they picked Julian to do Velvet Underground covers on Vinyl.
I stop to read that what have you been doing photo, nick valenky statement was really funny but Nikolai seems to get a little depressed when the strokes are on a break
I luv u julian
Well said.
Wow I never knew they did a cover of this song..though I knew Julian is a huge Velvet Underground fan. Awesome! When did they play this?
Strong.
Yes, it is :3
Jus fkin like Lou. Damn
epic
loud reed rest in peace
Funny to read this comment, because AM covered this song recently in Liverpool. And indeed: they are good competition. In this song AND in general !!
can't believe only 32 like this !!!
the only the strokes with a backing vocal
