I started my hope chest when I was 11. I embroidered linens and saved until I got married at 18. There was very little that we needed when we got married. That was 50 yrs ago.
I've commented in one of your other videos, but it's worth repeating: your way of life is so wholesome and precious. What you lack in space and storage, you more than make up for it with that beautiful piece of land. All three of my children were born in a smallish 1,400 SF cape cod where we lived very cozily for many years. It's hard to imagine your little kids growing up and being anything other than little kids. Until one day they aren't. And it really does happen that fast. Obviously everyone's kids are different, but I think, for the most part, they do share one thing in common and that's when they get to be pre-teens and teens, they want privacy. And that's hard to pull off with a small space. The solution, however, is not to move or give up your way of life for the burbs. The most cost-effective way to handle the space/storage issue when your kiddies get older is to simply build an addition onto your already existing lovely home. Find someone with a sawmill in your area and harvest all the lumber that you'll need from your own property. Do it several years in advance so that your lumber can properly dry and be ready to use when/if you ever make that decision. Pay attention to the cost of building materials and make small investments in those materials when they are lower over time so that the cost isn't so overwhelming. Nails, screws, insulation, wiring, ducts, plywood/OSB, pex, tools...etc. Things that don't go out of style and that you'll eventually need to add space.
I couldn’t agree more. We know they will want space we just need to figure that out. We had an addition priced out but it was SO EXPENSIVE! I figure prices are so inflated right now that it can wait. All the rough cut wood in our house is from our local Amish mill! So much cheaper and I prefer the look ☺️I do agree completely though 👍🏻thank you for watching and commenting!
Love everything about your place and your simple living mindset. For the bathroom..I'm pretty sure you/yall could frame around your Well pump and water tank, to make a small closet type area, and put a shelf just above those tanks for storage. Framing it in and covering it with Thin Paneling wouldn't take up much room because right now those tanks are taking up space to where if it was closeted in, you could have a little storage space above them? AND...it might even muffle the noise they make :).
Thank you for sharing I’ve been thinking for quite some time on owning land and that is important the home although small is perfect I think I love it as for washing I wouldn’t mind a porch out back of the home and I would make a wash area to scrub my clothes and hang it. Thank you 😊
Your videos are my favorite out of all the accounts I follow. Cute cabin! I love the life you’re living. We’re about to butcher our meat chickens and put a years worth of meat into our freezer. That’s what’s happening at our cabin!

That’s SO amazing! I feel like maybe I should start looking for chests for my oldest 🤔

I thought it was beautiful to prepare for the family I hadn’t started yet ❤️

Maybe make a small addtion and make it a wash room
We have really considered an addition but the price of everything is so high right now! So much to consider 👍🏻
I truly enjoyed the tour of your cabin. It seems to work for your family and that's what's important.
