@@Lmnop873 Not necissarily, but since space is mofo huge, there is a great possibility that there could be parrallel universes or even different universes. The possibility hasnt been seen or founded but thats because our universe is 91B Light Years across, that means that not even the telescopes that we sent out such as the Hubble or James Webb can't track other universes. We need more advanced technology which should be produced around 100,000 years from now which can determine if there are actually other universes out there. Although there is a grim possibility, we could reach a type 4 civilization in 1000B Years, which means controlling the whole universe and its resources.

I had one of these shower thoughts a while back. In the absolute grand scale of everything, nothing that we do will mater. All of it WILL be lost. The time frame is undetermined, but it will be forgotten. However, at the small local scale, we only have us. In this frame of reference, it all maters. The fact that it will all be gone one day, and to truly understand that, means what we do here and now shows just how good of a person you really are. It's a civilization scale version of the Shopping Cart Good Morals hypothesis. If we are good to each other when it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things and no one is really forcing you to do so, I believe that makes you the best a sentient being can be.

Life is a giant sandbox. Make it a magical adventure. In my opinion, it's awesome that nothing really matters.
The Greeks determined that the Earth was round and calculated its circumference with extreme accuracy for their time by jamming sticks in the ground and measuring shadows. So, the answer to “how do they know this?” is essentially this: math. The language of universe. It allows to see things that are invisible to our natural senses. With it we can peer beyond the veil into the past and the future.
@@nighttracker1472 we discovered math . We can predict earthquakes, meteorites and volcanoes due times. I feel that is enough proof that it works. Ofcoz there could be some variable in things like black holes and stuff. But we know how stars work, we can even replicate it with fusion reactors, even if those aren't finished yet we can replicate it for a short time. If we want to find out about something that doesn't exist we have to look at the past and present.

You could make a multi-hour video on all the stuff we've observed, and all the math we've been able to make based on the observations. We aren't 100% sure, because there might be something we've missed, but we are pretty dang sure.
@@OiiRobbi3x By looking out into the universe, we can confirm our math and hypothesis. Remember the further out we look the further into the past we are seeing. Aloha Centauri is 4.5 light years away so we are seeing how that star looked like 4.5 years ago. Betelgeuse is over 500 light years away, so it's light left Betelgeuse when Europe has just began the Early Medieval Era. Tabby's Star (KIC 8462852) is almost 1500 LY away and it's light began its journey when the Roman Empire had fallen.
Also the further we look out the more stuffs we can see. The Sun is 8 light seconds away. At 5 LY away we see 3 stars in the Centauri system. At 10 LY we see several dozen stars. At 20 LY, the number swells to hundreds of stars. At 50 LY, thousands of stars. 100 LY, millions. And the numbers just keep exponentially growing. At 100k LY we are seeing the billions of stars in our galaxy. At millions LY we are seeing other galaxies each having hundred thousands to hundred millions or even tens of billions of stars. Further out we see those galaxies grouped into clusters of galaxies, and further out those clusters into even larger groups of clusters. With this many stars to sample from, one can create a collage overview of the history of, for example our Sun by just looking at other yellow dwarfs like our Sun of varying ages ranging from newborn to those approaching the end of life. From this we can create a timeline of the life sequence of our Sun.
We then can apply the same analytics to other stuff like biological evolution by digging into the Earth and finding bones and other remnants and look at other similar animals to determine the probable progeny of almost any species that roams the Earth today. We can trace the origins of Humanity (Homo sapiens) back thru the likes of the Neanderthal and the Cro-Magnum, back to where we split from the chimpanzees, back thru the Great Apes lineage, back to the small mammals who suceeded from the Dinosaurs after they've died out after their highly successful 600 million+ year reign. Those in turn back thru ever more simpler and more primitive organisms further and further into the past. Of course we have gaps in our knowledge, like the exact lineage of the earlier progeny of Mankind between 1 million years to about 500 million and the more recent gap between the Neanderthal and those preceeding. I personally find it intriguing that at one period in the past we actually had shared the world with possibly up to 4 or 5 other intelligent hominid species. We have already seen traces in our gemome of at least 3-4 other hominid lineages which suggest that we have intercourse (in more ways than one!) with these other tribes of humanity in the past.
Then look at the science of medicine. We graduated from smoke and rattles to holes in heads and gross amputation, then discovered viruses and bacteria, which led to discoveries of antibiotics and cellulear evolution, and now we are just starting to peer into the very foundations of how the cells at the lowest chemical levels. From poking holes in heads to let out bad spirits to psychology and from ritual process to electro-chemical microbiology.
I could go on and on but would take years to cover even a tiny fraction of the sum total of human knowledge but even so there is still so much we do not know and there will always be more people who wish to learn more and add to the sum total of our knowledge base.

...and this is how the universe ends, not with a bang or even a whimper. Entropy is triumphant and everything is equal -- equally cold, equally dark, equally flat, equally dead. And of all the galaxies and stars and planets and cities and monuments and stories and songs, there is...nothing...to show what had gone on before.

when it comes to black dwarfs, we know those exist even though none currently do, because white dwarfs exist today. a black dwarf is just a cooled down white dwarf, which only glow at all because they are just that hot. if it helps to think about, a white dwarf is a bar of white hot steel, and a black dwarf is just that same bar at room temperature. it just takes SO long for them to cool, none have reached that state yet.
tl;dr they ARE a thing in the universe so we do have proof, the only difference between white dwarfs and black dwarfs is heat.

You can locally decrease entropy by exerting energy, for example.
This assumes the Universe is a closed system. We don't know for sure if it is or not. Besides, dark energy is created as spacetime expands, increasing the energy density faster than entropy reduces it. This means that it will eventually approach infinity asymptotically, producing a new big bang; revealing a cyclical Universe

If simulating consciousness is possible, then the likelyhood that any of us are real are likely zero. Sounds like a big "if" for a premise, but it is something we are trying to accomplish... if we are real, that is.
Additionally, if we are unable to simulate consciousness. It may be due to restrictions placed on this simulation, ergo we could still not be real even if we fail in this pursuit... Theoretical physics is such a fascinating subject.
This simultaneously makes you realize how insignificant you are and how precious your life is.
This amount of time is so vast as to be basically infinite. Even a tenth of this time is completely beyond our comprehension.

He puts everything into his work on here. It's a treat when I see he's uploaded another video. Love his work. We needed the passion of people like Brian Cox in our teachers. In every single subject we ever took in school. I had such an experience with a history teacher about Japan in the 9th grade. And the weirdest thing about it is I don't remember reading about it, when I know my teacher gave us plenty of reading material. I remember it like I saw it, instead of reading it. That's how visceral the experience was.
I've shared plenty of your thoughts throughout my 56 y/o life. Getting lost thinking about an ant hill I found one day in the crack of a sidewalk on my way to the store when I was 7. Forgot the store , forgot everything for about 5hrs. That is essentially a microcosm of my entire life. An always itching curiosity about "why".

No, this video is the true reality of climate change, it takes millions of years. Those that tell you the Earth will die a few years from now (mostly politicians), are conning you into believing that narrative so you will have no problem paying more taxes so that they can, "fix", it.

@@dean1039 The process can be accelerated by things like the greenhouse effect. This essentially is the entrapment of the heat of a star on a planet as gasses such as CO2 go into the atmosphere and don't allow the heat to escape. The timelines, in the video, were natural. What you are referring to are politicians who look for other sources of energy that don't leak CO2 into the atmosphere as a byproduct of using them. Obviously, if the sun's heat is trapped on the earth, surface temperatures will rise which will lead to a quicker melting of Antarctica. You should also keep in mind that this "millions of years" is referring to the complete destruction of the Antarctic. However, even if 2-3% of the Antarctic melted, cities like New York, Venice, etc. could all find themselves underwater which would cause a massive humanitarian and economic crisis. So, yes, you are correct, natural climate change is a very slow-moving event which is caused by the expansion of the sun over billions of years. However, artificial climate change which is the one you are referring to in your comment about taxes is created by human waste and will raise temperatures around the globe much quicker than the expanding sun. If you choose not to believe them, well that's more of a you problem.
@@dean1039 It will take millions of years for structures like Antarctica to be completely destroyed, yes. But it will only take a few decades for life as we know it to change drastically. Hell, it already has in many places. Climate change isn't an issue because it will literally destroy the Earth; it's an issue because it's accelerating a current mass extinction event, displacing countless people in coastal and island communities as sea levels rise, causing ocean acidification, and more.
The good news is, no matter what humans do to the planet, life is resilient and there will be species that adapt and thrive! We just won't be one of them.
At least I can agree with you on one thing-- most politicians are conning us. Many claim to care about climate change while having massive oil companies as donors. Coincidentally, the richest members of society will be the last ones impacted by climate change, as they can afford to avoid homelessness when shorelines move, or rebuild after increasingly frequent storms damage their homes.

@@dean1039 Nobody was saying the earth would "Die" they're saying within the next 60 years ew could have a food famine, water shortage, crazier natural disasters, etc. The ice caps melting has nothing to do with it, that's what takes millions of years. Guess what? For climate change we're at the million-year part where it ramps up, we're only adding fuel to a fire that just started a couple hundred years ago. YOu don't even understand the climate change arguments made.
