Somehow, I'd like to see Yakuza characters cameo in a future Valkyria Chronicles game since Vyse and Aika from Skies of Arcadia was in the first Valkyria Chronicles... I can't imagine how Majima would be in the story.
I wouldn't be opposed to a Sega all stars game in Valkyria Chronicles style. Then we could have Yakuza, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic, Persona, etc. all in one game.
I dont get how can a game get such amazing reviews (IGNs average of 9 for the series) and still no sell well. How unfair is that?! Also a lot of things you said are new to the 4rth game were actually introduced in the 3rd and squad misaions were introduced in the 2nd
I agree, it's unfortunate, but hopefully it won't have sunk the series. Also yes you are right I hadn't played those yet, and simply hadn't done my research. So the game polished rather than introduced them.
@@CommRio I wasn't a huge fan of how you somwhat trashed the 2nd game (and to a lesser extent 3rd) without even playing it. While 2 is the worst in the series its not a bad game and 3 is IMO the best in the series (at least nartive wise).
@@SormonAusPol I get that, my intention was to more trash the business decisions behind the two games and it appears that’s not how it came off. At least for the third game I actually played it now and wholeheartedly agree about the story. I’ve got a video on that on the channel. At some point I should get around to 2 but the setting really does turn me off it. It’s still Valkyria Chronicles though so I’m sure I’d enjoy it
I'm pretty sure squad stories are in the original game. Each of the main characters has a separate page in the book that unlocks through the newspaper lady's donations, and finishing their missions adds story for them and changes one of their potentials to improve them.
So that goes for just the main characters. When I refer to squad stories for VC4 (also in VC3) every single playable character has a mission related to them that alters potentials. So a similar system existed in the original, but not to the same scale as in later games.
I can understand the desire for that, given the Imperials Nazi parallels though (even if they aren't as strong as the Soviet parallels) I think it wouldn't go over well if they were the heroes for a game.
@@CommRio I was thinking more along the lines of a Imperial squad becoming dissilusioned with their side of the conflict. But I agree that it is a very difficult social (and political) field to navigate correctly when it comes to story and characters.
Nice video. I supported this game as much as I could by getting the collector's edition and all DLC. Are you certain about the sales of Valkyria Chronicles being 'mediocre'? I really hope it succeeds enough to continue the series.
Thanks. Since I went PC route I can only go with DLC no collector's edition for me. I can't be completely certain because getting numbers for North America is difficult, I based my assumption then off the Japan sales numbers. Current estimates have it at around 80,000 units sold, which is fewer than all three of the previous games. I can't say how SEGA will interpret the numbers, but I hope Valkyria Chronicles continues despite this dip in sales.
No special standouts in the soundtrack? What about an amazing performance of an Irish patriotic song as the credits theme? 😉 -Otherwise a great review!
Its actually sad that an amazing series such as these don't sell so well. These series deserves more love.
Completely agree.
If the series ends on this game it's one hell of a note to go out on
I agree, but I have hope that it will not be the end of the series.
@@CommRio same here the possibilities are endless

@@CommRio That's also the case in VC2 though.
The only thing I would want from this series now is a game from the Imperial perspective. A story with a bit of a very morally grey area like VC3.

@@CommRio Well here's hoping North America and the rest of the Western audience gives enough support for this game.
Loved this game, please bring us a sequel
