Form VI (Niman) would have been the second best fit for Luke if he didn't rework the saber forms outright, , as that is the derivative 'Jack of All Trades, Master of None' form of saber combat in the traditional seven-branch skill tree.
The practice of Shien typically has an emphasis on Saber techniques that revolve around the use of a reverse-grip stance. (Ahsoka and Starkiller being prime examples of Shien users) Luke doesn't reverse-grip any of his lightsabers used and furthermore, he had time to revise with Ghost-Kenobi before heading to Tatooine to save Solo. This would suggest he's more akin to the use of the more stamina-efficient Soresu, but he may have eventually implemented the use of shien-defense while holding a Djem So stance, like his father did during the battle of Geonosis and throughout the Clone Wars. Although if that was the case, it would have been when he merged the forms together to create new ones as Grandmaster and not during RoTJ.
They need to make this canon: So, Luke is about to recruit Ben in his Jedi order. One time Luke is sleeping and he gets a nightmare about seeing his Jedi order getting destroyed and him standing there, crying at the ruins. Everything then shifts to one island where he sees himself depressed, standing on a cliff and looking at his drowned X wing. He then sees Ben killing his own father with a red lightsaber and hears Leia mourning for him. He then looks at the sky and sees planets getting destroyed one by one by a new Death star-like machine. He then sees a massive fleet of Destroyers capable to destroy entire planets. In the last scene we see Luke looking at the Galaxy slowly becoming dark and red (Methapor for evil consuming it) Luke wakes up and after realising what he saw, he came to a conclusion that recruiting Ben into the order would ultimately cause its destruction and entire galaxy will fear him. Being afraid that that scenario might become true, he didnt recruit Ben into the Order because of a dream

Luke also had other trainers between the movies who helped him truly hone his lightsaber skill, one was actually a stormtrooper who used to work under Vader as a lightsaber wielding solider.
I remember reading that he picked up on form five after the first battle with vader in empire strikes back so i imagine that old ben kenobi taight luke 1 and 3 and yoda helped progress those as well as showed him form 4 ataru or at least the basics and adding the acrobatics and force enhancing speed jumps and strikes. Then after picking up form five from the first duel with vader he probably learned the rest of that in the time between making him pretty formidable. But not only that but if he did pickup form five from fighting vadar in empire strikes back it wouldve been darth vaders new hybrid form five which implemented forms 2 and 3 into his djem so that he got from dooku and obi wan. He added these into his hybrid style to shore up his weaknesses and lack of mobility from being in the suit since he couldnt move as well and couldnt use all of his form five the way he used to but some pros vader gained from the cybernetics super enhanced his natural strength he also used some juyo at times with his hybrid form five enhaced by the dark side of the force so his form five hyrvrid was really form five with 2,3, and 7 added in. Darth vader learned from his defeat on mustafar and on geonisis and adopted the forms of masters dooku and obi wan to cover his weaknesses and added to his power of form five with the dark side and 7 juyo to make the ultimate lightsaber form for his situation in his suit. Another good hybrid was plo koon he predominantly used form five shien but he used both djem so and shien but he would mix form five with ataru and the shien/ataru hybrid allowed him to best yoda once in a sparring session lightsaber duel
When you think about it, Anakin was also very naturally talented, so when you think about it that way it makes more sense why luke was able to beat vader after only minimal training.
I think its also that emotionally he had a lot of motivation, he was at the apex of his journey and his friends and the entire rebellions lives were at stake, which is why he was so aggressive. Vader meanwhile was unusually conflicted. It's not like Vader could just kill him outright because he wanted himself and Luke to rule the empire. So it was a guy with everything to lose vrs a guy who had to try to force a stalemate to get what he actually wanted
Soresu isn’t the only form that blocks blaster bolts. All forms can, soresu just tends to be the best at it followed closely by the form 5 variant shien.
Wait. Is it fair to say that Luke became a master of Niman/ Form VI? I ask because Form VI is a combination of Forms I, III, IV, and V, with the added emphasis using telekinetic Force attacks and being able to use two lightsabers.
Honestly after looking at the first official fight of Luke since Episode 6 (we don't talk about Sequels), he was pretty much Niman'ing all over the Dark Troopers in Mandalorian. Niman has a high focus on flexibility and blending bladework with Force telekinesis.
@Dedu1214 Double-Blade and Dual-Wield combat are both sub-variants of Form VI itself, and can be applied (in theory) to any and every form from the first to last. (Makashi is the only real exception, as it's only meant to be practiced with a single-blade Saber [although Ventress showed its use with Jar'Kai]) Niman itself is just the place to go when you can decide on just _one_ form.

I still resent anybody that says Luke is the strongest Jedi. I feel that nearly any night or master in the council /order could pretty easily annihilate him at his peak. I'm sure he's excellent at research, and props for tracking everything down without good sources. Sources. But how could he possibly go up against a highly trained Jedi that was in the order since they were an infant and have seen countless victories in battle throughout the clone. Wars? Simply doesn't make sense that a farm boy who really puts in the work can surpass them that easily.

Luke actually didn't know much about the traditional forms, if anything at all. He simply developed his fighting style based on intuition, which ultimately ended up being like a hybrid of them. He would go on to develop and codify three forms at his Praxeum; Fast Style, Medium Style, and Strong Style. When the traditional seven forms were rediscovered, he did go on to master Form V, though I believe he became skilled in all of them in time. Regardless what form he used though, he was a nigh undefeatable lightsaber duelist once he came into his own. He was an absolute force of nature, like his father before him.
And they allowed Rey to master all forms, all Jedi abilities, master piloting, and defeat both a Jedi grandmaster, a Jedi trained/Sith trained apprentie, and a Sith master, who brought about the destruction of the former Jedi order. All of this without ANY training or a Jedi master. Way to go Disney

Vader was Luke's greatest teacher. Yes, he learned the basics from Obi-Wan and had Advanced Training from Yoda, but people tend to forget that he learned a lot about lightsaber combat from Darth Vader. It's really the first time that Luke had fought a truly experienced lightsaber duelist. Even though he was defeated, he learned and even mirrored his father's fighting style in their last duel.
Cuz in the movies he doesn't do as crazy stuff as in the prequels, but that was mainly a limitation of the technology of the time. In lore, Luke's one of the greatest duelists of all time
Slowing down the scene with Luke and the remote really lets you see how the lightsaber blade was hand tracked into the scene. It jumps all over the place.
Form I/Shii-Cho + Form III/Soresu + Form IV/Ataru = Form V/Shien & Djem So. All combined lightsaber forms used by the greatest Jedis: Grandmaster Yoda, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Jedi Master Obi Wan Kenobi, & Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker.
We dont see it in the original trilogy, and i feel a lot was left out between the three films and would be an amazing animated series like the clone wars. We dont see lukes training much other than Yoda's but my huy really is very powerful learning everytjing alone. From building his saber to using the force (big part from Yoda) and his ligtsaber training was all self taught. Thats pretty cool, but eould be cool to see him trsin it snd develop. You cant train any sport or martial srt eitjout sparring or putting itto use. Im not a big follower on legends or canons books, i don know if they say how he trsined and actually applied his methids indtead of just lesrning the theory of it
Tbh, if Luke had to choose a form, I bet he will do great with Form 6, Niman, the reason is that it lets the user use their imagination to their advantage, using different forms from form 1-5 in a certain order to throw off your opponent’s, and the fact you can make an attack and defense pattern with any of the forms at your choice at once is a good way to fight, by using creativity alone. So Luke would be great with form 6, Niman.
Well he slaughtered a lot of Dark Troopers, which are supposedly pretty formidable opponents, using Niman. So yeah, I would say the same. He's great at Niman.
That's what I rly like about Lukes fighting style, it's all well rounded he has the acrobatics of Yoda, the defense of Obi-wan and the power of Vader and he ultimately became a better duelist then either of them atp and Post ROTJ mastered all forms of lightsaber combat, rly a peak Jedi

Luke actually had struggles and hardships he had to over come to get to the next level of mastery in his life. Which is why we loved the character, cheers him on with our hearts, and were glued to the screen to see what was going to happen next. Ayo didn't Rey endure a series of mental challenges upon touching an f-ing lightsaber which reminded her of traumatic memories, all of that happening after her friend told her everything she knew about him was a lie? Then she only (barely) beats Kylo who is wounded immensely by Chewbaccas bowcaster Doesn't she then endure another series of mental challenges regarding her parents and is then told that they just sold her for drinking money? Doesn't she get completely knocked out by a ship ramming into the ship she and Kylo where in? Doesn't she then have to endure more stress as Palpatine returns and she keeps fighting with Kylo? And then Doesn't she get nearly all of her life energy sucked out of her? Doesn't she then die whilst defeating Palpatine (and only with the aid of every single jedi) and then have only moments to spend with a redeemed Ben before he dies? Ah yes, Mary Sue right here folks

Shien is deflecting the blaster bolts at the opponent, Soresu is to just block ur blaster fire out of the way which is accurate to what Luke did

Wait. Is it fair to say that Luke became a master of Niman/ Form VI? I ask because Form VI is a combination of Forms I, III, IV, and V, with the added emphasis using telekinetic Force attacks and being able to use two lightsabers.
Honestly after looking at the first official fight of Luke since Episode 6 (we don't talk about Sequels), he was pretty much Niman'ing all over the Dark Troopers in Mandalorian.
Niman has a high focus on flexibility and blending bladework with Force telekinesis.
Niman also incorporates form 2, aince niman takes from every form before it
2 lightsabers is jar'kai. Niman is mostly for Double blades
@Dedu1214 Double-Blade and Dual-Wield combat are both sub-variants of Form VI itself, and can be applied (in theory) to any and every form from the first to last. (Makashi is the only real exception, as it's only meant to be practiced with a single-blade Saber [although Ventress showed its use with Jar'Kai])
Niman itself is just the place to go when you can decide on just _one_ form.
Forget about Disney! Dark Horse will always be my favourite depictions of Luke in the expanded universe.

I still resent anybody that says Luke is the strongest Jedi. I feel that nearly any night or master in the council /order could pretty easily annihilate him at his peak. I'm sure he's excellent at research, and props for tracking everything down without good sources. Sources. But how could he possibly go up against a highly trained Jedi that was in the order since they were an infant and have seen countless victories in battle throughout the clone. Wars? Simply doesn't make sense that a farm boy who really puts in the work can surpass them that easily.

Luke actually didn't know much about the traditional forms, if anything at all. He simply developed his fighting style based on intuition, which ultimately ended up being like a hybrid of them.
He would go on to develop and codify three forms at his Praxeum; Fast Style, Medium Style, and Strong Style.
When the traditional seven forms were rediscovered, he did go on to master Form V, though I believe he became skilled in all of them in time. Regardless what form he used though, he was a nigh undefeatable lightsaber duelist once he came into his own. He was an absolute force of nature, like his father before him.

Vader was Luke's greatest teacher. Yes, he learned the basics from Obi-Wan and had Advanced Training from Yoda, but people tend to forget that he learned a lot about lightsaber combat from Darth Vader. It's really the first time that Luke had fought a truly experienced lightsaber duelist. Even though he was defeated, he learned and even mirrored his father's fighting style in their last duel.
And he is labeled a bad duelist. People need to see vids like this

We dont see it in the original trilogy, and i feel a lot was left out between the three films and would be an amazing animated series like the clone wars. We dont see lukes training much other than Yoda's but my huy really is very powerful learning everytjing alone. From building his saber to using the force (big part from Yoda) and his ligtsaber training was all self taught. Thats pretty cool, but eould be cool to see him trsin it snd develop. You cant train any sport or martial srt eitjout sparring or putting itto use. Im not a big follower on legends or canons books, i don know if they say how he trsined and actually applied his methids indtead of just lesrning the theory of it

Tbh, if Luke had to choose a form, I bet he will do great with Form 6, Niman, the reason is that it lets the user use their imagination to their advantage, using different forms from form 1-5 in a certain order to throw off your opponent’s, and the fact you can make an attack and defense pattern with any of the forms at your choice at once is a good way to fight, by using creativity alone. So Luke would be great with form 6, Niman.
Well he slaughtered a lot of Dark Troopers, which are supposedly pretty formidable opponents, using Niman. So yeah, I would say the same. He's great at Niman.

Luke actually had struggles and hardships he had to over come to get to the next level of mastery in his life.
Which is why we loved the character, cheers him on with our hearts, and were glued to the screen to see what was going to happen next.

I think it had tremendous potential.
The actors were great but the writing, plot, and concepts fell WAY short.
And I feel there is no excuse for that.
The hardest part was creating it, making it work, and getting it right...and they did!
Yeah, there were ups and downs BUT...they learned from their mistakes, adapted the corrections, and make an overall better product.
I believe KK pushed an agenda over delivering a solid, well balanced product.
And they let her do it, and keep doing it!
