Is an MD Transfusion medicine eligible to complete a fellowship/diploma in Hematology after completing their PG, just like an MD pathology? Referring to 7:51
Ma'am, you didn't talk about the scope completely.. you said even mbbs doctors can run a blood bank then what's the purpose of md trans med? Pls elaborate
Transfusion medicine is not just about blood banking. It has scope on therapeutic pocedures like plasma exchange, lecocytapheresis, red cell exchange and thrombocytapheresis. In high end centers, stem cell harvesting, donor lymphocyte infusion and all are also done by department of transfusion medicine.
Its actually Immunohematology & Blood Transfusion (IHBT)…both are same only……difference is, NMC has named the course IHBT and most central institutes like AIIMS and Jipmer prefer calling it Transfusion Medicine

I see no future in Transfusion Medicine unless Pathologists stop encroaching and make policies that suits only the Pathologists.
