I’ve installed one in my ‘85 Hilux 4x4 something almost as harsh as your leaf sprung Cruiser and it holds onto both windscreen and phone on corrugated roads with no problem.
phone laws haven't changed for awhile no need to be careful when your phone is mounted as mine is and I use Android auto to control all my apps, music, maps and calls. The mobile detection cameras pick up people using there phone in their hand or leaving it on their lap.
