This album was not underrated - it was always accepted as an integral of his most fertile "genius" period - every song on it was, and is great - over 30 years after it was recorded - as timeless as the Beatles - as Gershwin - as Ellington - as Dylan - absolute perfection. Stevie Wonder is a gift to the human race from the heavens!!!!!
Music Of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Fullfilliness First finale, and Songs In The Key Of Life...as great a five album sequence as any in the history of r&b or pop music...maybe the greatest
Agreed, although some other contenders... Bowie from Hunky Dory to Heroes Curtis Mayfield from Curtis to Superfly Led Zep from Zep One to Physical Graffitti mid-70s P-Funk albums from Funkadelic to Mothership Connection Steely Dan from Can't Buy a Thrill to Aja Beatles as stereolab00 said
this song makes me so happy! like all of his songs, it's just the perfect blend of soul, funk, and pop. i've become obsessed with him lately. why did it take me so long?
yooooo cause he spends the whole song repeating “please don’t leave”, he escalates in emotion, and he even refers to himself in the third person!!! “Baby please don’t leave! Don’t leave, Steve!”
2020 first time I hear this song. What a genius, what a song. So confused don't know whether to sit and cry or get up and dance. At this rate those back vocals will send me straight to the grave...
Must be the 200th time I listen to this divine music since I discovered it....yesterday at night. Thanks infinitely Stevie, for giving us faith and happiness!!!!!!
1 of my very favorite songs by my hero/idol Stevie Wonder ! Don't let the corporate media try & tell you diffrent, but this album from Stevie was very innovative , just as much as all his other albums . Stevie Wonder=God of ALL music !!
Another good track from the brilliant 1974 Fulfillingness' First Finale album, that showed the world that Stevie Wonder was one of the true musical visionaries of the decade after his earlier Motown releases
When I heard this 37 years ago, I knew Stevie was here to stay. Thank you Stevie. What range in the disco era. It was another sign that you were signed, sealed and delivered.
The bottom line to this song is that there is no room for pride when it comes to loving someone. PLEASE DON'T GO, DON'T LEAVE ME BABY.... HEAR ME CRYING, IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR CRYING..AND I'LL DO ANYTHING YOU WANT ME TO...
i found some old review of this album somewhere and the critics were saying things like "even though its a good album, its not a strong follow-up to The Talking Book..theres no Superstitution...there's no 'I Believe (When I Fall In Love)" Lol i just laughed bc i know the type of ppl who only like Stevie for Superstition don't really like much of his other music. Theyre usually the type who dont even like soul & funk, so to me their opinion bears no damn weight. FFF is a GENIUS album thru & thru.
me too man :) stevie shows us soo much i think. and has given us soo many important messages with his songwriting, but also how we should be, he shares his talent and is humble down to earth you know everything hes a wonderful man and musically one of the greatest of all time.
This, and every other Stevie Wonder album/song is pure gold. His music defies genre. His talent is not even definable, it's on another plane, entirely.
one of my all time favorite songs by Stevie. Please don't go if you should go I'll be sad and blue. This song brings back fond memories of the times I used to sit and listen to this album in my brothers room used to always make me cry still does.. you are and forever will be the best there is anywhere Stevie you are stuly amazing.
Stevie was a media darling, they loved him. His musical genius was unrivaled. This was a pre-digital era when true musicianship reigned, few artists could sing & compose as well as, and play as many instruments as well as Stevie. He had no rivalries. In award competition where only peers & industry folks voted, they ceded almost* every award in all categories to him from 1973-1976. Legendary Paul Simon thanked Stevie for not releasing an LP in 1975, allowing Paul to win instead.
It’s crazy this song has been in my subconscious mind but I couldn’t remember the name of it I just remembered I’ll do anything you want me to if you promise that you won’t leave tonight 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥the power of music and Stevie I’m blessed to have the albums that defined his 70’s music career including this one 🔥
Uuu uuu uuu uuu uuu uuu uuu Please don't go, no no no If you go I'll be sad and blue So I say no no no, don't go away Oh no please don't leave, baby please If you should leave my poor heart would grieve So I say nay nay nay, baby please stay And I'll do ev'rything you want me to If you promise that you won't leave tonight 'Cause I'll break down and cry a river of tears With just the thought of you not here in my life So please don't go, no no no If you should go I'll be sad and blue So I say no no no, don't go away Yeah baby, baby, baby And I'll do ev'rything you want me to If you promise that you won't leave tonight 'Cause I'll break down and cry a river of tears With just the thought of you not here in my life Oh no no, no, no, yea yea Please don't go, don't say bye Tell me why baby do you want to make me cry Please please stay Oh no no, no no, I'm gonna try Yeah, yeah, yeah so baby please don't leave Don't leave Steve If you leave baby my poor heart would grieve So I say yeah yeah yeah Don't go Don't go baby, don't go baby Don't go baby, don't go baby Don't go baby, don't go baby Don't go baby, don't go baby Don't go baby, don't go Don't go baby, don't go Don't go baby, don't go Don't go baby, don't go Don't go baby, don't go Don't leave me baby (don't go baby don't go) Hear me, hear me, hear me, hear me, hear me Cryin' (wooh), for your lovin' in the midnight hour Cryin' (wooh), for your lovin' in the morning Don't go baby, hear me cryin', oh no oh no
Well. my Love is get on my car to get ready for lunch at Phoenix AZ heading I-10 with my Laptop and Friends and Family and Kids were having fun at all times ago. So I made this Google Earth to see Phoenix AZ sets to IPhone and IPod Shuffle and my Laptop 2004 to eat at In n Out and heading to Chandler Fashion Center with my Ball Kid and Children since 8-28-2006 Enjoy.
Stevie i love you all these years since 1985 I admire you’re strength, hope you cary on fine ,one of my last wishes is to meet you and have a chat with you are the reason i loved music and the reason I bought my first sentesizer
I recently started dating this girl who spend last weekend with me. I had such a good time with her and I knew the end of the weekend was coming soon and this song sums up how I felt while thinking about her leaving to return home. You're the greatest Stevie!
What anyone born after 1965 may not realize is that this vinyl LP was pressed with no gaps between the tracks, therefore all tracks flowed into each other in a very specific order. The Finale Experience opened with You Havent Done Nothing on side 1. The finale was this track, Please Dont Go. We would have to wait 25 months before another LP was released by 'the greatest individual talent of the modern music era', Stevie. Know all this as you listen, to experience it as we did back in 1974.
It was more than just some half-decade Love Fest. Stevie helped launch Minnie Riperton, Chaka Khan & Rufus, Denise Williams, Michael Sembello; toured with Rolling Stones, and provided great material for Aretha, Roberta Flack, Jermaine Jackson, Sergio Mendes, Taj Mahal. Musical luminaries from the 50s & 60s enjoyed success in covering his ballads in the 70s & 80s.
I am a big Hov fan and you can't deny his genius. He has put out at least three classical albums, and other albums that are good. However, stevie put out 5 consecutive classic albums. I don't think any artist can say that. Michael Jackson came close with OTW, Thriller, Bad and maybe Dangerous, but Stevie's classic period albums are all certified classics.
The way he closes this thing out, is nothing short of wonderful.
the music and the emotion!!!!
The same groove as Golden Lady (Innervisions) and Summer Soft (Songs in the key)
The best ever at capturing human emotion and putting it to music, ever
Music Of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Fullfilliness First finale, and Songs In The Key Of Life...as great a five album sequence as any in the history of r&b or pop music...maybe the greatest
In the famous words of Capt. Willard, "..absolutely goddamn right!"
That and the Beatles run, 1965-1969.
Incomparably the greatest
5 albums, 55 songs, hardly a dud in the whole lot.
Agreed, although some other contenders...
Bowie from Hunky Dory to Heroes
Curtis Mayfield from Curtis to Superfly
Led Zep from Zep One to Physical Graffitti
mid-70s P-Funk albums from Funkadelic to Mothership Connection
Steely Dan from Can't Buy a Thrill to Aja

One of absolute favourites of his. That bass sound is like a big funky cuddle.
Best beggin' I done ever heard...
yooooo cause he spends the whole song repeating “please don’t leave”, he escalates in emotion, and he even refers to himself in the third person!!!
“Baby please don’t leave! Don’t leave, Steve!”
Stevie's joyful music flows through people's soul like a river.
2020 first time I hear this song. What a genius, what a song. So confused don't know whether to sit and cry or get up and dance. At this rate those back vocals will send me straight to the grave...
Can't play this song only once! It's been years and still gets me every time

Another good track from the brilliant 1974 Fulfillingness' First Finale album, that showed the world that Stevie Wonder was one of the true musical visionaries of the decade after his earlier Motown releases

Fingertips part one and two that’s when I got into Stevi
just incredible mr wonder is genius
I love the harmonica solo on this song, it's short but it's amazing, Stevie's such a badass/genius
When it comes to love Stevie ain't too proud to beg and knows how to make you come back! I love him!
Should have been a single, great record from his best album, imho.
imho as well
could not agree more. the very best from an album of one perfect song after another.
It was a single, I think you mean it should have been a major hit............
sad to read that . As its an album track i thought it was maybe my little discovery . its a gem , keep it to ourselves
It was more of a deep track. To me, the deep tracks are better than the hit singles.
At twelve yrs old Motown told us he was a genius
The bottom line to this song is that there is no room for pride when it comes to loving someone. PLEASE DON'T GO, DON'T LEAVE ME BABY.... HEAR ME CRYING, IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR CRYING..AND I'LL DO ANYTHING YOU WANT ME TO...

Bought this in 1985 aged 17, still think its his best (cassette at the time). Lots of wonderful memories, first time i really found love.
I'm so old I had all these albums...
Julie LaFreniere Radio Stevie didn't even begin to delve deep into his genius. Ya' had to make time for his full albums.
I still have them.
Love this song

Jay-Z shouldn't even be in the same breath as Stevie
MrWatsurname Jay-Z is not even in this League. Only other person who could be mention in this conversation is The Purple one himself!!
i always thought this album could be a Broadway musical because each song was telling a story but they connected
