From an old white guy, whose parents taught me - thought it was EXPECTED of us - not to buy into the idea that folks of color were any less deserving of respect or protection under the law - than us, THANK YOU MR. JACKSON for reminding America what reality actually was, and not some phony tik-tok lie of an image.

I cannot thank you enough for posting this without bleeping it, because Reggie's use of the N word was contextually and historically appropriate to drive the point home of what he, and other black and minority players went through. This was an absolutely riveting interview, and one that was necessary to counterbalance the event.

Reggie Jackson wasn't "preaching." He was teaching history. Recent history. A history that some in this country would like to re-live.

Quite a bit of them evidently, they call it Make America Great Again , led by a Convicted Felon who launched a Insurrection against his own country, racially kept out blacks from his housing complex with his KKK card carrying father, put an ad in the Daily news front page ad calling for the Execution of 5 Innocent black men and refused to apologize even till this day when they were fully exonerated and the true culprit was found. That's what they want America to go back to.

Reggie still has that pain inside. It's crazy that this country is going backwards taking women's rights away, banning certain history books, flying the confederate flag and nazi flag proudly. Reggie gave us just a taste of how racist this country is. Sports tries to glorify the past and Veteran's, but never wants to talk about the ugly truth of what they actually went through.

A brutally honest telling of what this country was like. Yes, it makes people uncomfortable but truth matters and it’s important to know the truth of this country. Some now want to pass laws against teaching about slavery and Jim Crow. They call it Woke and know their dogs will bark and go running after whoever they point to. This country can be great ONLY if it accepts the truth of its past and learns from it and commits to being better.

So incredible to hear the honest, lived truth from this legend. Reggie Jackson's experience is not so distant. Most people watching this video also watched him play baseball, it was that recent. The legacy of the environment he talks about, where players like him couldn't stay at some hotels or eat at certain restaurants, is still alive in this country and it is the responsibility of every baseball fan especially to battle that legacy. The battle may be over one day, but not today.

I love this. This is American history! A lot of people don’t want to acknowledge the things that has happened in this country. The raw and the real of his story. The pure hell had to go through just to get to where he wanted to go. There are mountains that still need to be climbed to make this country a better place. If we all don’t stand up and show some fight for all, we will all suffer.

Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Lee May & many other black players were born in the south at the time when the ugliness of segregation was part of those nasty times. It is unthinkable that people could be treated in such ways. The ignorance is something that a good mined person couldn't even fathom. History is & should be continued to be taught about some of the unthinkable things that took place in this Country. The 3 players that I mentioned at the beginning & many more that lived in that environment & were there in their formative years still showed their greatness by rising above any hatred they had received & had to know they were better than the people who treated them with that hatred.

Mr. Jackson has arisen to the heights of the great Jackie Robinson in terms of becoming politically active during these bitter days of advanced Trumpism. I've always said that there are far too many apolitical professional athletes who have become much too comfy with their Wall St endorsements. I'm very happy to say that Reggie Martinez Jackson isn't one of them. Right on, Reggie !!!!

Reggie sound like a humble man. I got tired of listening to his arrogance when he was at the peak of his career. Now that he's changed, I believe him. I followed his career (ASU, Oakland A's, Orioles, Yankees, Angels then back to Oakland. I was saddened that he picked #44 to go to the Hall. It should've been #9. Go A's. Please find a way to stay in Oakland. Any billionaires out there!?

It was arrogance to you. It was survival for him. There are many black men who are proud. You probably mistook his self-preservation qualities as negative ones. I assure you that there were and still are melanated men that have this misconception of arrogance label put on them. If you could only put yourself in his shoes, you may see that he had walls up to protect himself.

FYI, this comment is coming from a family member (former professional athlete) of Reggie Jackson. Once again. We have those in society who simply can give a damn about the racism that existed back then and still continues to this day. Reggie, like many other athletes of color, had to put up with a lot of the inferiority complexes from a race of people that struggled with their own insecurities. Arrogance, if that's what you want to call it, was simply a characteristic that is defined by acknowledging what you have been blessed with and using the platform you have, to not give in to society's ignorant and envious complexes towards others. Bottom line, I sure hope you have at least an ounce of arrogance that Reggie had in his prime. Maybe this will allow you and others to simply take your blindfolds off and be a solution to the race issue and not add to it!

I am so glad you made it through that foolishness down south. After being shot while serving in the army 1969 Vietnam, I realized my dream of becoming a Professional Drummer and while on the road with Motown’s Mary Wells, we recorded in a studio called the Sound of Birmingham back in 1972. She, her husband and other Motown greats shared a lot of stories very similar to yours so I know What you were talking about and it doesn’t make you feel great at all when your mind and heart is focused on one specific goal and you have to wade through duck and Dodge systemic foolishness. Again, thank you for sharing the truth, Brah!

Beautiful! Mr. Jackson dropping some powerful truth about the very place they were trying to use tell a pretty history story. Real American history is all too often ugly and painful and violent, and needs to be remembered with integrity so that we all learn and grow!

He blew that shit up. I wonder what the owners of the mlb and fox were thinking as he was talking about that. The producer's must've been screaming in the dude's ear to end it.

They didn't schedule Reggie to talk. It was a last minute decision. I'd bet they'd never have let him speak if they'd known. You could see the white sportscaster keep putting the mic up, trying to speak 'cause he was getting told through his earpiece to close the discussion.

One thing about Reggie is he speaks the hard truth and doesn't hold back, this happened when he was in the minor leagues before the the Kansas City/Oakland Athletics, before his 5 World Series Championships,MVP awards.
I'm glad no one cut him off for speaking the truth.
