I delivered all cedar wood used to build Caribou. I would pick up lumber at a railroad siding in Louiseville, drive the load up Boulder Canyon and deliver it to the ranch. Jim was a really nice guy who wasn't like some snooty L.A.record producer. I remember all the framed gold records he had on the walls.
This is so beyond cool! Wish I could visit. Is "Running Bear" where the artists lived while they recorded there? Kenny mentions it's "haunted as hell." Someone should do a documentary on Caribou.
Terry Kath's daughter created a documentary of her father and included Caribou before it closed. Image owning 4400 beautiful acres as well as recording historic artists
Right, James, and meanwhile, you were screwing the band Chicago, taking fully 50% of their proceeds and then leaving them the remaining 50% to be shared among the 7 band members. Spare us.
I'm confused, Jim, and I bet you know the answer to this. Wasn't the Caribou recording studio in Nederland, CO (love that address label) destroyed by fire? And if so, why doesn't this waltz down memory lane at least mention it?
the big final auction sell-off was depressing; so sad to see it all go away bit by bit. I am such a sentimental fool for the past and days gone by. get so, so sad. guess i'm a basket case.
2:08 80xx series Neve? Goofy kitty! 2:30 Tom Hidley / Westlake control room? Studer 24-track on the left? (Lucky Mark Leffingwell for this cool assignment)
The ranch did not burn down in the sense that building(s) were totally lost etc. In the studio barn a small smoldering fire from a space heater's faulty outlet burned up an interior wall thru a control room wall then into the ceiling /floor of the 3rd floor loft lounge above. Weakening the floor above the control room enough to send a pool table thru it damaging the Neve 8016 mixing console. Fire dept was called and after they put it out kept an eye on things I think the water did more damage to the gear than flames even though structurally that area was in pretty bad shape from the fire.
@@sturoc0 right. he ended up getting millions for the property and surrounding land years after the fire. jim always win$, trust that. he had acres of land that the county bought from him for millions. he still had quality acreage out there after the fire. he even auctioned all memorabilia from the studios and guest lodges for over a hundred thousand dollars total in addition to the multiple land transactions. Jim is a business genius. he was their age but know how to keep theirs and his pockets lined. so he was in charge and producer and owner of many things. he used to own CMT network and sold it for a large profit. country music television was his and now look at it. he made millions on that deal too.
James Guercio is a friggin' genious, and a personal hero...This is a great video. I hope more surfaces!
Back in the day you could hang at the Pioneer Inn and see many recording stars come in for a few brews and darts. It was a cool era and place.

Jimmy Guercio should get More credit for bringing Chicago to LA and starting their careers.
Really?? What about stealing their money with weird contracts??
Please explain ??
Very nice piece.

Caribou auction viewing was bittersweet. All I could afford was $25 guide for souvenir. 😉

The Guercios had a reputation for not being friendly to locals.
Always super nice to me
Big Sam Do you still live in Nederland ?
I wonder if this video was mad prior to the ranch burnng down in 1985?
No. there are a lot of vids on ytube from yr. and half ago..The Caribou was put up for auction after sitting dormant for 30 yrs

James is my Cousin but, I’ve never met him.
James took millions of dollars from the band Chicago. Even royalty payments. Such a shame
