What a good papa. This is a wonderful example of facilitating growth child development by and trusting their abilities and supporting their curiosities. 👏🏼 the world needs more of this badly. Children will thank you in the future and will honor you even more. “Teach a man to fish, don’t just give them fish.”
What an absolutely beautiful tutorial. It’s so refreshing to see a father and son enjoying each other’s company. I think the previous person’s comment was spot on,”definitely a star in the making “ great stuff, thank you 🙏
@@JustScoof Yea my guy nice kid! I have one thing to add, if the mycelium are discoloured it's actually from contamination! From of lack of thorough sterilization or contaminants like mold, fungi's or bacteria within the household environmen or dirty hands/equipment etc. "Eating a contaminated harvest can make you very sick!
I was looking for a technique that could be used for my Cubensis, but I found this beautiful display of human bonding and growing. ¡Congratulations, family!
There are a few suggestions to try pick the top variety - there are many available. grow them in the best environment - some such as oyster muchrooms like cool humid conditions and may be placed outside (I discovered these and the reasons they work on Gregs Mushroom Grower site )
It's not often Ive been surprized but this video certainly would make anyone think but have you checked out the website called gregs mushroom grower look for it on google
What a nice little man!!! Such a pleasing personality. Both father and son have such soothing voices. Looking forward to doing my own mushrooms. Thanks so much!
Such an intriguing idea. I also ise a French press and just leave it in for a few rinses. The hot water every morning kills any bacteria. I never thought about how it's less acidic when pressing it multiple times. Your never too old to learn
I want to thank you and your very smart and informative son for the interesting video about growing mushrooms at home. Can you please let me know if you have to sprinkle water on the coffee grounds/spores during the time it is placed in the warm dark room. Can the coffee grounds be kept in the fridge or does it have to be in the freezer when collecting the coffee over a period of time.
Hello - thank you so much for your comment! Whilst the grounds are in a warm dark room there is no need to sprinkle with water (I'm speaking from the cold wet UK... in a drier climate this may be a good idea if there is little moisture in the air). ) The unused spores can be stored in the refrigerator until you next decide to make a batch, but there will be a shelf life, 6 weeks should be fine, 6 months and do not expect good results! All the very best - Joe (and apologies for the lateness of this reply)

How fun! Can’t wait to try using just coffee grounds!
you said that "you have boiled up the spent coffee ground to sterilise" . But, what if the content of moisture is too high ??? how do you control it. I tried the same way but probably my coffee was too moist. Please, give me some advice
im sure he drained the coffee grounds and he did show and say to have holes at the bottom of the black plastic tray to drain any access water. and holes in the white, larger plastic tray cover because mushrooms need air as well.
Yes its the substrate and those others you said Will probably also work but Coco doesnt hold moisture for long so that might be a bit of a struggle coffe grounds are good because otherwise you would Just throw it away so why not use it
Thank you and the young boyis a natural. We were using coffee grounds and oyster mushrooms. Oysters are quite easy to inoculate the soil substrate - so I think you will have a good chance with worm compost. Good Luck!
Instead of using already grown spores, would you be able to directly add spore water (spores scraped into water after making a spore print) and have it grow?
Hi Jord - thank you for your comment and enthusiasm! This sounds like a great experiment in the making. It is no simple task to achieve a good crop of mushrooms with all the right conditions in place - so I think using spore water will be adding degrees of difficulty. However, if you succeed it will be something to shout about and perhaps even create a UA-cam clip for. All the best - Joe
Hi there - from my research the easiest mushrooms to grow are blue oyster. Portobello may be a little less predictable, but once a little practised I'm sure these can be grown too. All the best - Joe
Hi Paul - thank you fo getting in touch. We ordered our oyster mushroom spawn from Ann Miller www.annforfungi.co.uk - who offers an efficient and professional service - the website offers lots of information All the very best - Joe.
Hi Duncan - thank you for your interest. A Scoof is a new utensil dedicated to cleaning cafetieres/ French Presses easily. It cleans in 2 or 3 simple twists and the coffee grounds are collected - ready for recycling or even growing mushrooms
You contaminate it when you use the other side of the tool to mix it together (because your hand touched that). I think we all got a lot more aware of this kind of stuff after corona.
The most funny part about this video is, that it will drive mycologists nuts, cause they will always tell you that coffee ground is an awfull substrate cause it's so contaminated. Therefore I really like that you even used coffee ground that was collected over a span of a week. Top.
He sterilised the grounds before mixing in spores by running boiling water over them. This is why other methods usually emphasise that fresh coffee grounds be used - they get naturally pasteurised and decontaminated in the brewing process, but after 24 hours will start getting contaminated with other molds.i can’t collect enough coffee in one day from my own household to use for mushrooms, so it’s interesting to hear that this family collects over several days and then just re-sterilises the coffee grounds before using. Top indeed!
Brilliant little helper did a good job. Thanks to the both of you :)

Thank you! I really like how you tell us just what we need to know. It seems the other tutorials I watched are making it much too difficult.

Put in a ziplock bag in freezer
Super simple and helpful
Thank you so much! The boy done good!
So is the coffee grounds being used as substrate not spawn? Correct? And if so would you recommend it over coco coir and vermiculite mix?
Yes its the substrate and those others you said Will probably also work but Coco doesnt hold moisture for long so that might be a bit of a struggle coffe grounds are good because otherwise you would Just throw it away so why not use it
The the extra helper Job well done. Can you use any worm compost 👍🇦🇺

Can you grow portobello on coffee grounds

What an intelligent and handsome young man!!
where did you get your mushroom spawn from?

You talked about sterilization then you put your fingers directly in!!!!!
**converts 25C to Fahrenheit**

**learns that's the coldest setting on my thermostat 80% of the year**

What is a scoof

You contaminate it when you use the other side of the tool to mix it together (because your hand touched that). I think we all got a lot more aware of this kind of stuff after corona.
There is still some coffee ground left.
Looks like a overlay...
The most funny part about this video is, that it will drive mycologists nuts, cause they will always tell you that coffee ground is an awfull substrate cause it's so contaminated. Therefore I really like that you even used coffee ground that was collected over a span of a week. Top.

Indeed those sorts of people make it sound so dramatic that you can't use the grounds EVEN if they are sterilized by re-boiling them.
You so cute young man
