The tobacco companies were one of the biggest advertisers on television and had billboards everywhere until finally the cancer warnings couldn't be ignored. It's odd that the father in this show stated his daughter was a " good girl who didn't smok when the sponsors were tobacco companies.
Lots of things like that in the 50's If you ever watch Leave It to Beaver look at Wards front shirt pocket. There is always a pack of cigarettes in there. There is one scene where Ward is talking to Beaver about the evils of smoking. Then at the end of the scene Ward bends over to set on the couch and you can see the pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket. How funny
The entire show was an extended cigarette commercial, not one episode I’ve heard it seen has failed to have someone asking for at least one and Joe giving at least one to someone. It was a show about cops and cigarettes and robbers...
Thanks for posting these programs they are great 👍
That one had a twist in the tail.
Adapted for television on January 28, 1954.

Interesting that the long-term study by the doctor doesn’t mention the lungs…times have changed.
Why dont we know the name of the doctor who did the year long study...strange

Hard to imagine that they actually had cigarette commercials like that.
