“Couple quick tests” looking amazing
Haha yeah they are quick shots if your doing it with a crew, but on your own it does take a while!
@@lewispotts You're just talented af mate that's all ;). Loved the piece
Ei hey Brady ..if you are following him it means it's good at what he's doing.. I'm subscribing
One of my favourite people commenting on a video for one of my favourite people. Hi
We need more filmmakers making filmmaking videos like this and no more B-Roll youtubers. Great stuff Lewis looking forward to the next video
This video has a lot of b-roll. I’m interested in understanding what you mean. Can you explain?
@@NickWeaver Sure thing. Majority of UA-camrs claim they are filmmakers when their entire portfolio is nothing more than B-Roll footage with widescreen bars and some music slapped on. That’s it. That ALL they have to show. No short films, no commercial work. Nothing. Those people are not filmmakers. Lewis on the other hand is a filmmaker, check out his portfolio of work he has done. Yes, this video has B-Roll in it but that’s not the point of my comment. Lewis has many video showing tutorials on lighting on the work he has done. He shows actual lighting techniques on the paid work he has done as a filmmaker. That’s what I mean by we need more filmmakers making videos and no more B-Roll UA-camrs who have no credentials of any actual “work”
@@FlipsMedia Interesting. You're saying you like to see actual commercial work before you acknowledge someone as a filmmaker. I would consider anyone a filmmaker who makes any form of film, but I do like to see true understanding of the craft, especially in situations where people are offering advice and calling it professional, lol.
@@NickWeaver Yes and no. Type in on UA-cam “ Cinematic B-Roll” and watch those videos. Those are the videos I am talking about. No story, no feeling, literally just random B-Roll footage with widescreen bars and music. If someone’s portfolio is literally just those videos, they are not a filmmaker. If someone has a “Cinematic B-Roll” video but also has lets say short films, something with actual story to it. Then yes I would consider them a filmmaker. They don’t even have to necessarily get paid for the short films, it could just be passion projects. The problem I am saying is when it’s ONLY “Cinematic B-Roll” is their portfolio. That’s my point
@@FlipsMedia Those people tend to make more money based off clicks than they do actually working a film/commercial. It's sad, really.
As a gaffer I appreciate your lighting instinct and creativity. So tired of seeing b-roll youtubers just throw a lightdome on and call that a review.
About the Fresnel, 'Meet the gaffer' did a test on it. 1200D with the most narrow reflector on is brighter than 1200D with the F10 Fresnel on.
This footage looks so great!
Bouncing off a parabolic softbox in daylights pretty crazy 🙌🏽🔥
wild wild wild. thank you so much!
So good! Always appreciate your work and willingness to teach us. I have a question that I hope you can answer. At the 3:55 mark in your video, you show a wide shot of the room. I'm curious if that's how bright the room actually was when you filmed the scene of her on the bed and on the floor, or if it's closer to the levels we see in the final shots. The BTS levels always seem so much brighter than the final, and I just assume they stop down with NDs in the camera to correct the exposure or are graded later to get the same results. Hope that all makes sense! Thanks again!
Talented. That’s what you have brother. Beautiful work in just a sample. Thank you!
Best cinematography channel on UA-cam..seriously can't get enough. I was actually curious how you setup your talking heads for UA-cam, lol. What lights / diffusion?
The shots and that light looks fvcking amazing! 😩
Well done!
Hard and soft light through the window is my new religion.
I'm glad I found your channel from Epic Light Media back then. I haven't watched this video yet but I'm so excited to jump in. 250k subs is in your future. Guaranteed 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I have that same impact umbrella. its great when it rains.
Lolo yeah its great
Best cinematography channel on youtube. I Appreciate you sharing your knowledge
Aputure really comes out of no where with all these releases lol
I've got a project coming up where I'm going to have to light a pretty large space, so I'm considering just bouncing as much light as I can into the ceiling and then using neg and bounce to add shape. I bet the 1200D would be pretty good at that!
Really enjoying your lighting videos. Learned so much. Please do keep them up. Love from Los Angeles!
Dope
That’s awesome I use that same 7 foot umbrella to do the same exact thing!!!!
yes.. love it in contrast to speedy harsh, and yalling b-rolls of many youtubers these days.. - this is just so calm (also sound background),smooth, stable and so well lit ! amasing you did these scenes in your room and backyard! Lights makes a difference. quite a dramatic difference. also so smooth filming is great.
Gorgeous footage. Your film emulation and halation are amazing. I'm curious. Is that a power grade or something like dehancer?
I'd love to know too
Dehancer and filmbox plugin
@@lewispotts thanks! Looks great. Perfect amount of halation
I much enjoyed this video.
I love this quick tests! Look amazing as always!
This is more interesting than just numbers! The type of review that I'd Love!
I would love to see it in a night scenario
Learned quite a lot! Thank you for this video.
Love the videos!!
Thank you so much! I can learn cinamatography from your videos!
great job, Lewis.
great!
Could you list the stands used in the video? For both 1200d, 600d and the top light too ?
What size is that parabolic umbrella? I see impact have a range of different sizes but 7' seems too big for a lot of indoor scenarios so might opt for the 165cm but I'd be keen to hear your opinion.
Whoa, pretty amazing shots! Subscribed!
This is great, but I'd LOVE to see what Lewsi can do with more modest gear. So many of the ppl on UA-cam shooting with BMPC cameras and only have a couple of cheap LED lights, (often a Godox SL60) it's hard to tell if it's their lack of skill -- or cheap gear that makes their shots look so ..... student level.
On the other hand Lewis' work looks consistently fantastic, but a lot of it is shot on pro cameras as well as slightly out of reach lighting gear.
If APUTURE or KUPO is reading this, I bought a 300x and a Junior Boom Stand from watching this guy's work. Also, in the show "Inventing Ana" on Netflix, multiple times they would have the subjects in front of an overpowering, bright white source. They used it in shots of past memory or romantic moments, but I would be curious to hear your take on how to create glowy romantic dreamy lighting while still retaining detail in the subject. As always Great video man.
So 🔥🔥🔥
Some beautiful shots and a great review. Keep em coming Lewis!
Thanks!
Can you show us the results of the commercial yet? :)
video on the Intellytech Mega LC LiteCloth please!!!
Cove lighting maybe? Channel your inner Sir Roger Deakins! 😎
3:18 looks so pro. Can you breakdown the grade?
❤❤
Great video as always. Was wondering where you sourced the mega light cloth in Australia. Thanks
Thanks! I got it from B&H
I love the way all of these videos just kinda thow up their hands and say "Yeah, it's a giant f*ck-off light and it's bright as hell. What do you want from me?"
euphoria type shots :0
How about 575 Arri HMI?
What intensity was the 1200D at? 100% ? Thx for the vid!
Yeah 100% most shots
Hey Lewis, how did you pull focus on these shots?
I just did it myself off the lens
@@lewispotts Thanks for the reply, Lewis. Wow! Didn’t know you could pull focus on a gimbal with those lenses and be that smooth.
At that end, you have the light through a softbox and then through a panel. Why not just skip the softbox and go hard into the panel? Do you really see a difference on your subject?
How did you manage to focus? do you have like follow focus puller? nice video by the way
The camera was on the ronin rs2, so I was able to do the focus myself
Hey Lewis, whats the mic your using in your videos. Also, thanks for creating these videos.
It's the rode wireless go2
@@lewispotts thx Lewis. Your the best
Your videos and genuinely really inspiring and make me want to go out a shoot! Would love a QnA video about your career and lighting in general.
Are you related to Bingo Bean?
Tell them they need to make a fresnel attachment and spotlight attachment. Please, for me.
I watched Luke seerveld's meet the gaffer video and he does a great comparison with the Fresnel
@@lewispotts It's not approved by apurture yet. We may find out that the 1200d might damage the optics. I would really prefer them make an attachment optimized for the fixture to maximize the output and performance.
It frustrates the living daylights out of me when a review doesn't show a light outside mimicking or competing with the sun. That's literally the only piece of information I need to know half the time when looking for a light!
bro you have the most inspiring channel & content i've ever seen.. really appreciate the way you share your techniques & experiences.. makes me really want to get out there and trust and push myself
Thanks David!
@@lewispotts Hi Lews, it would be cool, if you could share The Kelvin of the 1200d as a Sunlight and the cooler Kelvin of the toplight at the bed. Share it in your future videos also!
Apprecite tests/reviews like this far more than any 'technical' reviews. Thanks for sharing Lewis!
Lew is top notch, this style (which I can’t name or put my finger on) is so right. Perhaps a lot of the style and feel comes down to the grade but overall there’s just something more special about even just Lew’s talking head image. Natural but grand with a half percent of uncanny.
Wish I could figure it out.
Chiaroscuro?
Dont have to worry about vampires with it around at least
So much power! Really love their lights. Beautiful work mate!
Lewis we need a new Squarespace ad ;) Great video as always
You are the best!)
ভাত পাইনা, আর কোটি টাকার জিনিসের ভিডিও দেখি 😒
Great episode. The first shot could be done with three 600d. But it would been interesting to se the difference with a 600 as the sun in comparison. Or perhaps a 600 with a spotlight mount.
I was just going to say how great it would be to see the 1200 vs the 600!
I agree, for the direct sun and even as the bounce just to see this look can be obtained with smaller lights or then, how would it look.
Great video! Also --- Subscribed!
Just like Wandering DP, I see Lewis Potts I click
gotta love the thumbnail! nice review sir. you deserve my subs!
Great video ! If I may add a suggestion, I would have loved to see with lights on and off
Just moved to my new place and I can’t wait to be producing your level of content. You, Brady Bessette and Kevin Reyes are literally building my career!
Can you try using it to create multiple light sources using mirrors and bounces and stuff? Lol I hope this question makes sense😅
You should follow Rob Ellis, Wandering DP and Epic Light Media as well. Top content
@@Visethelegend already following them. Actually forgot to mention Rob Ellis. There's more honourable mentions but these 4 are genuinely helping me carve my own creative or style of filming.
What was you Amateur for the bed sun scene?
Does it cook weiners?
Love this setting,
For a moment, I thought the video is about Canon 1200d!
Lewis... Man... You're a goat and such an inspiration. Your tests are literal big budget film quality. Much love from East Tennessee🙏🏼
Wow its super cool
I know it's on purpose, but do you realize how cool you are? Like... you're thinking out of the box and it looks fabulous. Love the shots you got and the thought behind them.
I can just watch this stuff for your voice, the music and the overall vibe. haha
Thanks Lewis for these Bad ass videos! Always tons of Info and inspiration in them . What is the hand held mic your using ?
Another solid and to the point video! 👏
this video alone just earned you a subscriber. excited to see the result of the commercial!
What a nice and really inspiring review+showcase of the work you're able to do with this. You're really great at what your're doing.
You really could’ve been more creative with the title 😅. Just so that you’d get those UA-cam views but great video
which lenses did you use? I couldn't understand what you said.
That things insane!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Would you say that the Vespid primes compare to the zeiss ultras?
So interesting! Even your talking heads looks great. Mind sharing what you shoot with for those and whether you color them in davinci or premiere?
Hello Mr. Potts, can you please share your thoughts about this light's reliability one year after this video? I'm considering buying one, however, I read on many reviews that the light fails too soon?? Is yours still working good for you? Thanks in advance.
Damn I was gonna hold off on this one, but you might have just sold me
That was so funny. At 4:27 I audibly said to myself, "..it's waterproof" and then you immediately responded hahaha
what's the softbox ur using??
Do they let you keep the light? Great shots as always
Great video! Also, please do talk about parabolic reflector umbrellas in a future video! I'm curious to see a cinematographer review them and but them through some practical tests.
My question is: how can you not like a Lewis video...
this is rad
Good shit homie! I'm really enjoying your stuff.
Your gf is gorgeous! Plz put her in more of your films! 💗
Can't wait for Melle Branson YT channel content to drop
Yis plz. At a price though 😂
