How To Straighten A Wonky Nail | Reshaping a natural nail

- Hellooooooo and welcome to The Kirsty Meakin Show,
Sometimes natural nails can go on a wonk and they don’t look great but your client has put all that effort into growing their nails and they want to keep that process so here’s how you fix a wonky nail.
I’m going to start by examining the nail and seeing where I need to remove and where I need to add. I’m then going to file straight out from the side wall, following the finger to remove the extra nail, filling under the nail rather than filing the actual side of the nail, this is going to straighten out that side. For the side that’s missing a bit, it’s a little more work.
I’m going to apply a form underneath the nail to support the new product and then I’m going to use the A&A system in Tan to build out that bit that’s missing. This is a great way to start sculpting if you’re not confident because you aren’t doing the full nail, just part of it. It’s fine to go a little over the edges but you want to make sure you don’t have any stress points and you’ve got a nice apex. Do multiple beads if you need to and examine the nail before letting it set completely to make sure everything is secure. I’m going to pinch this nail to get a nice c-curve and then go in and file the nail like I would a sculpted nail.
Once the nail is reshaped, I’m going to take a pointy bit on my e-file and clean up underneath the nail because foundation and all sorts of nasty bits will get trapped on the excess product under the nail if I don’t. I’m going to finish off by buffing the nail and applying cuticle oil because I’m doing the design in a separate video.
I hope you enjoyed this video, don’t forget to like and subscribe and all that shebang

Hi Kirsty! About a year ago during lockdown I came across one of you videos and watched you sculpting a set of nails...I was hooked and wanted to try it...i tried it and totally fell in love with the whole process...a year later, at the age of 42 I'm now a qualified tech with nearly a full clientele. I only sculpt. Thanks is all I can say for helping me find my way in life! I'm now saving up for a set of Kirsty Meakin brushes to take my art to another level! Cheers duck xxx
This is fantastic great job getting qualified I wish you lots of success in your business xx
@@sharonwheeler6220 thanks so much, really appreciate it, much love to you xxx
I love watching Kirsty. I do gels on myself at home - Kirsty makes me feel like I could just jump in and do acrylics
@@teresamckeown5594 have a go! It's a lovely process.x
46 here and currently trying to figure out how to make nail school happen. Good luck on your new career!
You are such a natural in front of the camera. Just a joy to watch
I love this technique and find it so much easier than removing the entire nail every time. You're absolutely right about this being a great introduction to using forms, and this is exactly how I learned to use them in the first place. I have 2 nails that grow wonky and I have to correct them pretty much every time I do a fill, but it's very quick and easy to do. Thanks so much for sharing this technique!
I'm forever a Kirsty Meakin fan. For the past year and 1/2, I've watched every video you've released, liked and shared. Watching you create such beautiful designs...you gave me such inspiration. With covid shutting down the world, I was forced to do my own nails. I've sculpted my own nails, done amazing nail art, encapsulated flowers...used hard gels, and then progressed to acrylic. I have a long way to go to perfect the shape and filing shapes, but you've put me on the right path. I'll say it again, because it's so true, your an inspiration to me. Also, a shout out to Adam, Andrea, and of course our fav worst client ever...Faye. 💕 Thank you so much for teaching this old gal some new tricks!! 💕💕
Kirsty, would it be possible to do a single dedicated video on how to file the nail to achieve all of the shapes? I have no issue doing straight square, which is what I prefer, but I'd like to know how to file each of the other shapes for when I'm qualified, in an easy way, rather than having to spend ages correcting!!
She did one a while back on the Naio channel ☺️ It’s really in depth! It’s called How To File Nails Like A Professional Nail Technician. She goes through the most popular shapes requested by clients.
Corona and Alpine pop.
Wow! Takes me back.
This is really helpful. I’ve got a wonky nail and I’d never considered using a nail form to build out the missing side! Thanks so much!
It's Adam's laugh for me 🤣🤣🤣 Please tell him that his laugh is infectious 💗😁
I know we don't see him often, but I have quite the crush on Adam. I think he's gorgeous. And that voice!!
Great to see how to fix a wonky nail instead of taking it all of and do a complete new nail. Some of my nails are pretty wonky to so I’ll try next time to do it this way.
Love this! Your the best beautiful amazing work as always!
Coffee and Kristy nothing better this early on a Monday.
I love this video because I have two wonky nails on both hands and wondered how they could be straightened. Thank you.
Well what did I learn from today’s nail video??
Cat’s and Dogs are only pregnant for 9 weeks!!! 😳😲🤯
Already knew everything else lol
Thanks for sharing guys!! I been wondering when we were gonna get a new nail video bc there hasn’t been one in over week! The last one was just about that nail expo.. so
I been kinda patiently waiting for a new nail video!! I missed you guys!! Thanks again!! 😘😘
Me too
Perfection as alway Kirsty!!
Hands up who checked out their 'pointy' fingers lol Great video!
This is a great video. You are so talented and an amazing teacher. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
It's my ring finger that has a wonky nail it kinda grows to the left lol. Its more noticeable on my right hand than my left. Love your videos Peace and love to you and your family 💙💜💙💜💙💜
Love your videos!! They are very educational!!! That will definitely help me out!! My pointer fingers both do the same and now I know how to correct them!! Thank you for continuing educating us all 🥰🥰🥰
Kirsty, you’re the sweetest! ❤️
Omg I love you. You are so helpful and inspiring with designs. Xx
Yeyy first to like ,
Love you videos Kirsty, keep up the good work xx
Good tips. I really enjoyed that technique
Hi you guys Thank you for this video it really helped you always make everything look so easy and love how you explain things and you guys are so funny you make me laugh love watching
I wish I had known about filing off the sharp edges years ago. I have given myself terrible cuts over the years. 😢
Yay...thankgoodness I love these types of videos!!!
Thank you for such a great educational opportunity. How do you correct a “wonky” nail when it actually the finger tip itself that is turned laterally/ bent out towards the pinky finger?
Always try to give the illusion that the whole finger is “straighter” rather than just in line with the other nails ☺️ It’s more visually pleasing.
However, if it’s a significantly bent finger, you won’t ever make it look totally “straight” and actually, if you try to straighten it too much, it might just look weird 😂🤦🏼♀️
I’d just explain to the client that following the natural shape completely will emphasise the bend, but equally, trying to completely visually straighten it will also look strange ☺️ Somewhere in the middle will improve it slightly but won’t completely “fix” it ☺️
I hope she comes to Sydney Australia I would just die Kirsty Meakin is my Idol I follow her on facebook and instagram she's amazing love her work
Thank you Kirsty I found this video very interesting 🤔
Wow. Great job
In Canada we had The Pop Shop, you could get lots of different flavours and return the bottles.
Kristy are you ever going to do your own line of acrylic? Love the video! 🌹
I remember corona pop a trip down memory lane lol thank you 🤣🤣🤣xx
Kirsty, my nails are warped, bend under, cure inwards, any suggestions on how to straighten them? Right now I'm heating the end of a metal nail file and melting, reshaping them, but I can't imagine that's a good thing. Thanks in advance.
I would also like to know! My middle finger nails grow in curved, almost capping my finger tips, and my ring finger nails grow in wavy, almost like a W.
Ashes B all my nails are curving in one way or another 😢😢😢😢
So love your energy lol
Have a Great Week. ❤
Oh come on Kirsty 😊 Corona pop, then you got to take the bottle back for 10p and I’d always get 20 aniseed balls. Thems are the days of ‘the pop man’ 😂
That's a lot of growth for 9 weeks! I'm glad mine don't grow that fast lol!
Kirsty getting interactive with the screen 😂 👍🏻
they look great
Please come to So. Calif.
Ya we had those pop bottles Pepsi, coke , royal crown cola/rc .. you would take the empty bottles back to the store or the pop truck & theydvgive 5 cents I think for each bottle…I wish they’d bring em back…in America , Kentucky
I have very wonky finger (it has a full arch), so I am always trying to compensate when I file my nails.
Can you please do a video on wonky finger? Assuming the technique is different...
Thanks 💖
Kirstylove your show love what you're doing I have a question and a problem I have a lady whose nails grow downward at the tips so they're bent downward all the time I'm wondering if you could tell me how to cure that
Bravo super magnifique kristy bisous de la France bisous martine 👍👍👍👏👏👏💅💅💅😘❤👄⚘🥀🌹❤💋🌹🇨🇵🇨🇵
LIKE.
Bring back lococks pop plese UTB lol x
What do you do about twisted fingers?
What is the difference between 120 grit file and 120 grit buffer
Generally buffers have a foam/sponge layer under the sanding surface so they mold to the curved surface.
How is Andrea doing on her journey??
Watching these views is like spending time with friends. About the reproductive miracle of animals - where do all the babies to inside? How do they fit so many in???
But Elephants are pregnant for 11 months, so that makes them superior to us! Lol
Elephants are pregnant for nearly 2 years, not 11 months.
Cats and dogs can also have multiple fathers of the litter. Thank cripes humans can't 😊
Humans can, it’s just rare. Superfetation. It’s fascinating
Suggestion: look into fast hair growth fortified shampoo to double hair growth.
😀😊😍 💛💚💙😀😊😍
Elephants are pregnant for almost 2 YEARS for just one baby. 18-22 months depending on the elephant. but still... 2 years 😭😭😭
No wonder the females always stay with their mums for life! If I were an elephant and spent two years making my daughter, best believe she’s staying with me forever 😂👌🏻 “I didn’t spend two years pregnant for you to ungratefully move away! Now, look after your mam!” 😜
@@TallulahFoxxx 🤣😂😂🤣 right!! invested!!! lol orca whales I believe also stay with their families, the babies have grandmas and they help raise the babies. Animals are way cooler than humans will ever be.
So in 9 weeks Andrea's nails grew a few millimeters. And in those same 9 weeks, her dog made 9 whole other dogs! 🤯🤯🤯
Wow! How didn't we work that out lol.
I wonder if her skin is delicate because of doing hair, I’ve just started to use bleach, hair colors, and other chemicals on my kids hair, their teenagers. Ugh… This is the first year their asking to go to their boyfriends or girlfriends house for thanksgiving. I am not prepared for that yet, I said no not until your in a more serious relationship. Luckily my oldest is 19, 16,15, and 11. All girls but unfortunately most of the girls were cursed with a larger bra size so my 6th grader has been having a go at it this years. New school but making friends with girls just not happening but boys she’s broken more than a few hearts, this problem is teachers, parents think she like 16. What was I talking about? Ugh my chronic illness are kicking my ass today. Anyway I hope I said something that makes since. My ADHD brain often doesn’t make since. I’ll start a new comment
Andrea is no longer a red head 😱
Like what you're doing. But, we aren't far superior beings compared to animals.
At least humans aren't like elephants.... They're prego for 2 years
