Yes, it takes place in an alternative timeline: in the original one when Goku got back to Earth he could master the Super Sayan form easily, in the movie it's like he's never been training around space and came directly back to Earth after beating Frieza.

That was already done in the first raging blast game in the "what if" saga where there were two battle (one as gogeta and one as vegito) and the producers decided that vegito would win purely because he is stronger and he doesnt defuse.

What if gohan died or ran away earlier and goku got there before the fusion ran out. Could he beat him without fusion and in ssj3?
You have, Frieza's family all have similar if not the same transformations. Cooler was in the same state Frieza was when he fought Goku when Goku first met him. Notice the differences and similarities as well. Like look at their dad for instance, he's always been in his first form when we saw him. Frieza went through all stages and when we saw Cooler he looked kinda like Frieza when Frieza fought Goku. So given that info, Cooler has forms like the rest of his family. We just never saw them.
It would be interesting to have seen Vegito vs Super Janemba instead of Gogeta. Think you can do that and on BT3, SSJ4 Gogeta versus all the major villains, Freiza, Cell, Buu, Baby, Super 17, and Omega Shenron.

I think it would've been better to have them both set to CPU and Very Strong and let the computer duke it out in 3 matches and see who wins more.
