Tom is the man! Been a big fan of his for many years since Magnum PI. One of the best & most humble actors Hollywood had ever seen! Wish there was more like him!
I just watched that at bat again recently online. He really did hang in there against major league pitching! The hardest task in all of sport in my opinion is hitting in the major leagues. He did well.
He did everything you are supposed to do! Kept his shoulder tucked in, cut down on his swing a bit, choked up a little. Did you notice how the pitcher pretty much stayed away from inside pitches to him? And Selleck was probably in his 40s at the time.
i first saw that video recently on X and just watched it again now, struck out swinging at least on a FILTHY curveball that would've gotten anyone! Tom was no slouch at the plate, he tried!
I saw his at-bat. He hung in there, all right. Did a really good job. He cut down his swing a bit and was late, as he said, but his hand-eye is sharp, that's for sure. He looked good up there. I think somebody said he was 46 at the time?
I just came from the video of Tom at bat. One thing about it, that pitcher wasn't about to groove a pitch in there to give Selleck an easy dinger. That last knuckle ball curve was nasty.
Tom Selleck was filming the final scene of his movie Mr.Naseball and it was him getting a coaching job for the Detroit Tigers in the movie and thats how that whole scenario came about but if he would of faced Rob Dibble well that would of been like facing the Grim Reaper at that time .
I graduated high school that year. Was a huge Magnum PI fan. Not a fan of the reboot. Tom Selleck and his casting crew are unique and irreplaceable in Magnum P.I. Wasn’t a Tigers fan, but did saw him hitting a foul ball. I saw Will Farrell in spring training and the guy couldn’t even made contact. Tom’s probably the only Hollywood actor who could actually hit. Fell in love with Hawaii because of his Magnum show.
Tom was 46 when he had that AB and he was hacking a major league fastball so well the pitcher had to break one off at the end so he didn't get a hit... great job
@@joemckim1183 I did not know that. I will have to watch it. Thanks for the info. Just so there's no misunderestanding, I meant JuNior was the party pooper for disparaging MLB batting parctice. Enjoy your Easter Sunday.
He fouled off three pitches and looked pretty good up there. If you would have told me that he played in the minor leagues for a year or two, I'd have believe you...
Yeah, that pitcher did Tom dirty, he must've felt threatened after 4 foul balls so he threw the curve and got him swinging. Tom is not lying that he hung in there, I think he could've hit the ball eventually!
Tom Selleck Hall of Famer for guys with great mustaches. Must have been pretty cool getting pranked by Al Kaline and the Tigers. (Not icy hot though). His at bat was a good at bat. No way a guy trying to make the team can let an actor get a hit. Should have been a fastball if he really wanted to strike him out though.
"I hit left and throw right, like Ted Williams", frigging legend Tom Selleck is! Love the video!

Actually made contact a couple times.

Tom did well in that at bat. His telling of how it went is even better.
Both Selleck and Rich are class acts.
The algorithm must’ve known that I just watched his at bat a couple days ago.
Hah, same.
Same here
You too?
2 seconds ago! Lol!
Yup
I've seen the clip of Tom taking his turn at bat, and it was actually quite inpressive!
Mr. Baseball is one of my favorite baseball movies.

Exactly - he was 46. Fouled 3 balls off and took a ball low. Then swung and missed at a curve ball.
I just came from the video of Tom at bat. One thing about it, that pitcher wasn't about to groove a pitch in there to give Selleck an easy dinger. That last knuckle ball curve was nasty.
46, so just 4 years younger than the age neikro retired at haha
@@mvan8307 or 4 years older than Albert Pujols
@@cdjhyoung yeah, that was definitely a big league pitch

he was baseball coach at the end of Mr. baseball or at least that was what i watched and i have seen the movie a bunch
Yes thats true sorry for the miscue
Saw that at bat just the other day.Tom did a great job.I was impressed.I think the count was at 1-2 before he was retired.
He fouled off 3 pitches.
Love hearing tom talk baseball and play the commish
That was actually a really good AB. He fouled a couple of pitches off, hung in there really well
Tom Selleck, Class Act.

so have you never heard of Kevin Costner? lol
Watch will play basketball at pre game with the Warriors. He has a pretty nice jumpshot

This was cool. Magnum PI (the ORIGINAL, not the remade crap) was and still is, THE balls.
I'm 54 and still playing!
MR BASEBALL , Tom Selleck baseball movie is the MOST UNDERRATED BASEBALL MOVIE EVER
Tom Selleck are class acts.
This is what sucks about short segments like this. Rich had to hurry Tom along while he was telling great stories.

Great stuff
At one time I thought he and Jack Morris looked a lot alike.
Tom, what a moment! Loved it when I saw you connect with that last foul. I think Lou got nervous for a second.
Ah yes, that Cramer's "treatment" will get you every time.
Tom Selleck is being too humble. He's done MLB batting practice, in the past, and hit several baseballs into the outfield stands.
i feel like you're making entirely too big of a deal out of MLB batting practice
Party Pooper :))
He starred in Mr. Baseball in 92.

That’s what the internet is about..
almost gone
Tom did have a good at bat that day. Big slow overhand freight train finally struck him out
Cramer's atomic balm was icy hot x 10. Yikes

What was he doing there? Preparing for a role?
WHO does he play catch with?? Nice cut job....
Beauregard Delacroix, Al Kaline.
The ole atomic bomb in the jock. Oldest prank in the book, certainly made the rounds in high schools in the 70s.
Probably labeled a hate crime today
i'd like to see one of celebrities get lucky once and swapping one out. you know a good 400ft.

Ok people, he was hitting against a big league pitcher, but he was hitting little league pitches.

Calling Tom Selleck "Actor - Blue Bloods" is a bit odd.
exactly! He's Magnum PI!!
