    Thank you very for your explanations, I really enjoy your videos. May I ask one question about the differences between codes, memos and annotations? I am struggling to know when should I use memos and annotations in Nvivo. I am looking forward to your answers. Thank you so much!

      memos and annotations are completely different thing to codes. Codes will be used regardless, and memos and annotations is something you may use but don't have to. Annotations are like little sticky notes or notes that you would make in the margin of a notebook (or a comment you make in a pdf file) - they appear in the file where you made them. A Memo is a separate "journal" if you like. This is the difference. Hopefully I made this clear above, but I also go into much more detail of this in my self-study course on NVIVO www.udemy.com/course/from-zero-to-nvivo-12/?referralCode=4C22C1DD7CE7ACCD4BC9

    Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
    By the way, code, can there be any questions that have a connection to the Research question?

    Thank you for your help,
    I am trying to buy a dictaphone for a qualitative work but dont seem to know the differences between specifications. The work I am planing will be a face to face interview with participants, does it matter if I get a Mono VS sterio Microphone dictaphone? what about recording format, I have read that WAV is the best format for recording interviews but there arent many dictaphones supporting the WAV format, the majority record MP3!
    Again, thank you for your help

      I am not sure to be honest, I think both wav and mp3 would do to be honest. Also, these days people often use their phones as they have good audio recording specifications

    Hi, so I coded all my transcripts and at the same time I always had my research question in my mind. However to find themes should I be referring to my research objectives ? And then use these research objectives as headings in my result section ?

    • @qualitativeresearcher
      @qualitativeresearcher  2 роки тому +1

      there are a few videos in which I explain how I move from codes to themes. In essence, yes, you should think of your research questions and objectives when thinking of themes that you can develop from codes. And no, the headings in the results do not have to reflect the objectives (although they may) - I also have a video on how to write the results section

    Hi Dr. Kriukow, I decided to use coding via MS Word. Should I start coding from authentic transcriptions? Or should I clean first the file (remove the filler words etc) before coding? Thank you.

    • @qualitativeresearcher
      @qualitativeresearcher  2 роки тому +2

      Doesn't matter - if your transcript already has these filler words and stuff like that, just code this transcript, no point wasting your time to clean it up now. Bes tthing to do is to (usually, although this may depend on your study and its aims and methodology) is not to trancribe these things in the first place

      @@qualitativeresearcher - thank you very much. I hired a transcriber for this since I have not much time left. But thank you very much for your insights. Yes. I am coding them now.

    Question - I hope you can find time to discus this in your channel. I would like to know is how do you identify a research problem and how would you know if it is not a problem. Thank you and wishing you all the best!

    • @qualitativeresearcher
      @qualitativeresearcher  2 роки тому

      thank you for the question. I think I partly covered this already in my videos on how to find a good research idea - this is basically how you identify research "problem" (although technically it does not have to be a problem at all)
