  • Wayne Teasdale is a Christian sannyasi, that is, someone who follows both the Christian and Hindu contemplative paths. He was a friend and disciple of the Benedictine monk Bede Griffiths who headed Shantivanam, a Christian-Hindu ashram in India. This wide-ranging interview, taped at Hundred Acres Monastery in New Hampshire, describes the history of the Christian-Hindu dialogue in India, the work of Bede Griffiths, and tackles the difficult question of the relationship between Hindu and Christian mystical experience. Format: straight interview with several insertions of photographs taken at Shantivanam. Wayne Teasdale died on Oct. 20, 2004 at the age of 59.

    Wonderful quote at 57:50
“I know Him- that great Person of the color of the sun, beyond the darkness.
It is only in knowing Him [the cosmic lord] that one passes beyond death, and there is no other way to salvation.”

As the different streams having their sources in different paths which men take through different tendencies , various though they appear, crooked or straight, easy or difficult all lead to THEE(GOD)
Three blind men walking on a road met an Elephant.
One touched the trunk and said this is what the animal is , where as other touched the ear and said this is what the animal is, the third one touched the foot and argued this is the animal.
We are all blind and keep on arguing about God...
There is a frog which resides in a small well for long years.
One day a frog from pond suddenly fell into that well and met the frog of well.
On having a discussion frog of pond says that I lived in pond which is much much bigger than your well.
The frog from well who spent all its years in well only argues relentlessly that nothing can be bigger than his well and finally the argument got so heated that frog of well drove the frog of pond out from the well.
So we lived in our boundaries and think this is the limit.
The seed is put in the ground, and earth and air and water are placed around it. Does the seed become the earth, or the air, or the water? No. It becomes a plant. It develops after the law of its own growth, assimilates the air, the earth, and the water, converts them into plant substance, and grows into a plant.
Similar is the case with religion. The Christian is not to become a Hindu or a Buddhist, nor a Hindu or a Buddhist to become a Christian. But each must assimilate the spirit of the others and yet preserve his individuality and grow according to his own law of growth.
The water we drink is called "Pani" in Hindi, "Jol" in Bengali and "Water" in English. But that doesn't differ the true nature of water or the usefulness

Ramana Maharshi did clear the doubts of spiritual aspirants with his talks throughout his life after the years of silence. Look for the book "Talks with Ramana Maharshi". Ramana Maharshi was silent (because of his profound enlightenment experience and not as a spiritual practice) for only a couple of years probably around 1910s (much before Henri Le Saux ( Swami Abhishiktananda) arrived to India which is 1948).

“Bringing them to Christ within their own tradition.” Yes, that’s true evangelization. That’s what Jesus did.
