I really don’t know why Sheldon is more iconic than Abed. Sheldon is just cringy and Abed is ultimately funnier edit: Damn if ya’ll wanna see full blown discussions about TBBT and Community just scroll through the reps. Be enlightened HAHA
It may be because BBT is/was more seen in other countries, and Community wasn't. For example in Austria and Germany you can see Big Bang Theory everyday (except maybe Sundays), and I think I saw an episode of Community ONCE on TV. And it also puzzles me that Sheldon can be so mean and insufferable but still be so loved by fans. A friend of mine said that they would slap him in the face at least once each episode because of him being an obnoxious jerk. I actually have a BBT themed T-shirt but I got that when I was younger, but now, as I am getting older, I see all the bad things of BBT (misogyny, toxic friend and relationships, et cetera) and the laughter, and that baffles me. I loved that show and now I am trying to get as far as possible from it. And it got way worse in the last half than Community. Because both got worse over time but Community way less. And Community is one of the few comedies that made and still makes me laugh genuinely. TL.,DR.,: A possible reason BBT got more iconic was maybe the international spread on TV.
Tbbt is a mediocre sitcom with shitty jokes and a laughtrack to fill in the gaps, sheldon isnt funny...has the same shtick for the past like 10 years, acting was shitty, always breaking character, boring as hell.....community is one of the best shows of all time with some of the best writing of all time....abeds diversity as a character and how interesting and dedicated danny is....Danny is and was STREETS AHEAD
Was just thinking the same thing. I hate when interviewers ask the same boring questions that you know the actors have been asked a hundred times before.

I really enjoy Dani as an actor. The friendship between Glover and Abed really shows how great the two can tap into the hearts, minds, and cultures of their fans. Great actor and I'd watch anything he is in.
Dan is such an amazing writer. If you look closely in this episode of Community, you notice that Shirley and the Dean have their own story going on in the background! Wow!
I can't see him as anything but Abed now. Not least because as Abed he played a hundred different characters - and so well, too! - and whatever Danny does now seems like Abed doing another bit. It's gonna take a while for that to fade away.
'Cause in the show, Abed has an ongoing gag where it's revealed he's been plotting the other characters' lives and seems to know how they will respond to certain situations (including in alternate timelines)
the shift is so jarring, its literally as if abed is impersonating someone with good social skills, like thats literally what this would be on the show
I got distracted by Yvette's makeup and then I got distracted by the fact that she's doing an interview into a cell phone, like not even a mic connected to a cell phone, just a cell phone. For some reason that makes me kind of sad, kind of bothered.
I see a lot of comments comparing Abed and Sheldon so I’ll just say this: For me, I find both Sheldon and Abed lovable. Yes, Sheldon could be a jerk most of the time, but that was only due to his lack of social awareness/intelligence. In his own way, you could always tell that he did genuinely care about his friends. I’ll always remember the episode where he finds out Penny is considering dumping Leonard and he begs her not to hurt his friend. Abed also had his struggles, but I think he was able to manage situations better because his coping mechanism/passion was movies (as opposed to Sheldon whose was Physics, and even when he did watch movies they were mostly sci-fi or fiction). I think Abed’s love of movies helped his social intelligence, in some instances you’d find that he was even able to manipulate his friends when he really wanted to, and he usually did that to test his theories. I think both shows have their merits. I loved BBT though cos when it came out, “nerds were not cool”. And I could always kind of relate to it because I’m very introverted and a bit socially awkward. I still have to consciously work at improving my social skills everyday even though I’d rather just be by myself and avoid people. I was also able to relate to Abed because movies are like my go to place when I need to escape. I can just relax, not have to be around people and completely immerse myself in a different reality. The intent behind Community though I think is very different. I believe the show was trying to highlight that feel of family between complete strangers, how bonds can be forged and that you can choose your own family. In terms of writing, it’s clear that Dan Harmon and Chuck Lorre have different styles of comedy. Sheldon was written to be a bit more awkward than Abed, and BBT received much more publicity than Community IMO, so I guess you could blame Sheldon’s “Icon” on that. I’ll also say this for BBT: everyone is a weirdo in their own way, and the show did a great job of showcasing “weirdos”. People ultimately just want to feel like they’re not alone, that’s why I think it was easy for people to embrace a show about weirdos. (This is not to say that Community characters weren’t weirdos but BBT characters were bigger weirdos)
I just started to warch this series and i have no idea it was shown almost same as glee. I dont that this series is a gem. Dont want to start an argue on this, but i think abed is one of the best smartest guy character that wont make you cringe. Good job danny pudi
