Absolutely stayed with you David. Both the model railway and your modelling photography videos I’ve found interesting, entertaining and inspirational too. Not actually started my layout yet as we are still trying to get moved although our move to north Suffolk is looking likely for the new year so hopefully then! I do have some ideas so it’ll be a question then of space, time and of course resources but looking forward to it. Anyway, thanks again and here’s looking forward to your next video(s).......... regards, Philip.
Very interesting watching you mix the paints and apply them to the layout. Some very good tips taken on board. Regarding the turntable I always maintain that it's your train set so do whatever makes YOU happy. Many thanks for sharing and Seasons Greetings to you and yours. Cheers, Bob
Thanks for your comments Bob. Yes I am happy with it and am looking forward to developing more opportunities for photography in this area. I can share my layout with more people on UA-cam that will ever see it in real life. I think its important to show the layout in a more varied way. - David
Welcome back David, we have missed you as you can tell from the comments. I liked your turntable build so it's a shame to see it go but what you have now looks really good also. I look forward to update No. 9 be it before or after Christmas. Regards, David.
Many thanks David, it's good to be back. There were things that 'niggled' me a bit with it, regarding its look more than anything. Switching to sound was the motivator for finally removing it. Locos will have to turn around the other side of the bridge. Thanks for your comments - David
Great scenic work David love the mirror tip i have always struggled to find convincing ways to disguise a road ending at a back scene also lots of great painting tips cheers for sharing .. Pete
Hello David, I've just binge watched your videos and am astounded at the level of care and attention you put in. One thing that does strike slightly discordant is that typically the detail oriented modeller wants to go with finescale, hand laid track. Your layout definitely doesn't need it, but I'm curious as to your thought process around the idea! Many thanks and best wishes with your layout!
Firstly, thanks for your kind and generous comments. I take your point about the track. Thing is I have made models of various things since childhood. My interest in model railways only began about 3 years ago, so I was not tuned in to the massive variety of subtle detail that could be incorporated. I knew it would become a long project and certainly running the UA-cam channel has added greatly to the enjoyment. However, even if I fully understood the finescale option regarding track i probably would not have opted to go in that direction. Time would have been the biggest factor. However, If I was to start again I would definitely consider Peco code 75. I am where I am, as they say, so I will continue to do my best to with the detail and endeavor to bring Deresley to life. I hope you continue to watch. - David
Great to see you have your motivation back mate :) I love the back scene, looks absolutely amazing! Can't wait for update 9, keep up the good work! All the best mate --- Ben
I seem to be late to most parties these days. 5 years ago but still relevant to me today nice one. Will be catching up as I go being newly returned to the hobby.
Hi David, great to see an update from you. Has been 6 months? Blimey. Like what you are doing with your layout and I hope you've got your mojo back. Looking forwards to the next installment. All Best Dave
That was spooky David, I was thinking only yesterday that I had not seen a video from you for some time . Then one pops up in my gmail inbox today, Welcome back. Your back scene painting looks very effective and with so few colours. I may try that on my new layout. The whole scene is looking really good. I agree that one extra siding is the right way to go so that you can model some more scenery. It always makes a nice foreground for photography. Please don't leave it so long next time. ....................John
Hi David, Good to see you back working on the railway! I'm surprised you removed the turntable as you spent ages doing that not so long ago but it makes sense really. It was interesting to watch the landscape all coming together around the bridge/turntable and will look great when done. Cheers, Michael
Hi Michael. Many thanks. I wanted to increase the scenic area so, the turntable had to go. Its the time making things I enjoy and it proved a challenging thing to model. Appreciate your comments as always. - David

Fantastic video and tutorial. A great bridge in nice environnement !
Thanks James, I hope so too, trouble is the the longer you leave it the harder it is to get back. I have done a little mor and will be bringing out a (very) short update before Christmas. - David
Thanks Dan. I was wondering how a painted scene would go down with my subscribers. So far the reaction has been very positive. I think it adds character and atmosphere - David
You got the road surface color right, on most layouts they tend to be painted straight grey, but a pure grey road surface doesn't exist, except for a brand new concrete surface. A new tarmac surface is a very dark, almost black, grey and once the surface starts to wear the colors of the agregate used in the tarmac starts to show, in a lot of cases these have brownish/ochre colors in them, add dust from surounding soil, brought there by wind, water or vehicles and those factors are making the color as it is.
Many thanks for your detailed comments. I fully agree, you can't just use one mix for your roads, it's more subtle than that, for all the reasons you mention. I am so pleased you picked up on this - David
Thanks John, I never truly liked my first backscene attempt and was, briefly, tempted to go the photo route. but I thought I could make my layout more individual and add more atmosphere by painting it. My bridge is tight against the back left-hand corner of the layout but it does not appear that way in the photos. I am thinking, I may not need the mirror. Thanks again - David
I am having second thoughts about mine on the revamped bridge. Won't decide until next update when I have the trees in place. I agree though, in the right place they can be most effective - David
Hi John. Thanks for your comment and apologies for my late reply. I can't, at the moment, see me making a video about this because I would have to make up some sort of diorama to set the scene against. However I will try and cover this briefly in my next video. I know - it's been a while, but now the cooler weather is here I will make an effort to do an update. Thanks again - David
Nice makeover David, The bridge really stands out. will you be using the turntable elsewhere on the layout. you had put a lot of work into making it, merry Christmas to you and your family. all the best Tony
Hi Tony, many thanks. I have no immediate plans for the turntable. It needs a certain amount of redesigning both cosmetically and to accommodate sound. I may consider re-siting it in the fiddle yard or adding and small extension 'loco depot' board, although this would have to be carefully considered as space is tight in my railway room. Merry Christmas to you and yours Tony, hope Santa is bring some railway goodies !! - David
Hi John. My sky colour is a pale blue from Dulux - can't recall the name, I just picked one from the many colour-swatch options available. Depending on the lighting when I video colours tend to vary a little in hue and tone. I picked a plain blue (no clouds) as I like to vary the skies by replacing the layout sky in photoshop - its easier to do with a plain light colour. Thanks for the congrats, I can hardly believe it myself !! - David
Hi Michael, many thanks. Yes they are my goods train operating waybill cards. I did a video on them 'Goods Operations #01' - I may have to watch it myself to remember how to use them!!! - Regards, David
Hello David Thanks for your reply, I would like to use a similar system on my layout when finished. I will take a look at your video on the waybill cards. Michael
Hi Bob, Oh dear! - I had no idea anyone would want it. I have reused the base on this update and have another use for the motor. I am afraid I did not remove it with much care. Some of the parts I can use again. Thanks for your offer, very much appreciated. - David
Crazy. You removed a very good turntable, just because of expence to make it sound. And add scenery in its place.Part of the fun is having a turntable. And its not expencive to add power to your turn table.
Max £3 to add power to your rails on turntable.Dont watch them people selling all these fancy electronics.2 light push button switches.Connected to bus and rails in different polarity.switch which polarity that you want.If you have sound models .then they should have a stay alive fitted.remember to turn the turntable back the same way next turn.Your grandson will be sad that you have removed this.
Hi, Thanks, I concede, you are probably right, bit it was not as flippant a decision as perhaps I made it seem. Alignment was another issue, together and the design, I had to raise the track on the table with ballast which made it look unrealistic in my eye. Anyway, I have made the decision , and I now have to live with it - at least for the time being. Appreciate your comments - David
Hi, thanks again. Have to agree, I love making more than I love buying. I understand about polarity but because all the issues I would need to redesign the turntable and the ballasted trackwork leading to it. It did work well and I would consider replacing and re-sighting it sometime. I am keeping the main parts. Yes, my grandson did like the turntable, but, in the end, I thought ...... 'what would Dr Beeching do?'. Thanks again for your comments, much appreciated - David
Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. Music choice is a tricky thing. I try to keep it to the beginning & end of my videos but there are times in the videos where silence just does not work. Its too time consuming for my productions to edit in 'appropriate' sound effects and, I feel, music carries the segment through. As to which music to choose - I can't please everybody so I please myself I am afraid. I do try and vary the choice for different videos - without infringing copyright - its the best I can do. I do hope it hasn't put you off too much. All I can say is - please drink responsibly :) :)
Hi David, very impressed with your painting technique, makes me want to have a go! good to see your return! glynn
So nice to see you back David and great work too. Thank you for taking the time to have us (virtually) visit your layout.
Thanks Philip, glad you stayed with me. Your comments are always welcome. - David

David Hyde i know that feeling. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
Welcome back David. Nice update. A railway modellers work is never done! ;-)
Hi Davie, many thanks, glad too be back. Appreciate the comment - David
Great work on that scene David, I loved the backdrop! Cheers, Dan
Thanks Dan. I was wondering how a painted scene would go down with my subscribers. So far the reaction has been very positive. I think it adds character and atmosphere - David
Welcome back David. I like how your back-scene turned out.

Nice to see you're back David. An interesting update and I do like your redoing of the backscene.

A mirror works well. I have one at the end of my TMD layout at the end of a cripple siding. I does add depth.
I am having second thoughts about mine on the revamped bridge. Won't decide until next update when I have the trees in place. I agree though, in the right place they can be most effective - David
Hi David
Great update, very enjoyable
Regards Paul
Many thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed it - David
I like that you produce high quality videos and they get adverts, well done
Many thanks again. I enjoy making my videos, although they do take a long time to edit. Glad you like them - David
Great update Dave, been awhile, nice job on the backscene!
Hi Greg, yes I know, really appreciate the comment. I am glad you like the backscene. - David
David, you're the new Bob Ross!!
Thanks - praise indeed (I think) 😊😊😊
Nice to see you back layout look good keep up the work
Hi, Many thanks, glad too be back, appreciate the comment - David

Thanks very much, glad to be back. Good luck with your videos.
Good to see you back David and looking forward to seeing more progress. Are those Train operating cards you are using on your layout?
Michael
Hi Michael, many thanks. Yes they are my goods train operating waybill cards. I did a video on them 'Goods Operations #01' - I may have to watch it myself to remember how to use them!!! - Regards, David

Michael
What is the music you are using in this video clip please?
When you say “Take it out & chuck it away” does that mean I can buy it from you, or is it now beyond repair? Thank you. Bob
Sorry, you said “store it away” - forget my last message!
