- Kurog Grimtotem Normal and Kurog Grimtotem Heroic guide! Kurog is a Primalist raid boss in the Vault of the Incarnates raid of Dragonflight. This boss guide for Kurog Grimtotem will walk you through the important healer, tank and DPS raid mechanics you need to clear this Vault of the Incarnates raid boss.

Kurog has many different abilities depending on which element he's attuned with. Moving him near one of the four altars in the boss rom (Fire, Frost, Storm and Earth) will empower Kurog with moves of that element. When he reaches 100 energy, he'll have an immunity intermission and summon a pair of adds based on his two most recent altars.
Altars ramp raid damage the longer you're at them, so ideally you spend equal time at each to minimize excess raid damage. None of the mechanics are difficult to learn on the Kurog fight, there's just a lot of them. Interrupt, dodge, soak, stack and spread your way through the various elements.
The most dangerous parts of the Kurog Grimtotem fight are pulling him too near the middle (easy wipe), failing to get into the Freezing Tempest cast by the frost add, or failing the soaks. Put one person per soak in the Thunderstrike soaks at the storm altar, and have two big groups help absorb the Absolute Zero soaks. Don't overlap the Absolute Zero soaks on Kurog.

Whew this guy looks like he's gonna be tough. Gonna be rough trying this on normal as a tank. Even RF looks like it will take a few tries.

@Hazelnuttygames Hey Hazel I've noticed that the mechanic "Lightning Crash" is explained wrong in your video, it does make things harder for me when I pug because a lot of players rely on your guides to understand mechanics well as people usually prefer vocal explanation rather than reading the journal. The lightning Crash does only fry more harshly at the end of the duration. It does not matter if it's a marked target or not the guy will get equally fried. What's very important on that mechanic is that you do not stand inbetween 2 arrows an get fried by 2 at the same time, the best way to deal with the mechanic is to make sure new players soak your Lightning crash rather than the same person from start to finish. (The best way I see fit to deal with this mechanic is to stack up an move around from target to target, while being spread from other arrows) -> To make sure you dont feel like you are to blame for what pugs do, it's always on the player to do the mechanics correctly / Or on the raidleader if the player is asking for help.

Well, I mean Dathea is a ping pong fight like Remnants of Nerz'hul
guide doesnt mention that lightning crash applies a stacking nature damage debuff, that if you soak 2 in a row, you die.
Not a good raid night for me.
Hazel, how do you make the tank debuffs big like that? I've been trying to and can't manage to do it.
How come your earth guide doesnt mention the falling rocks you have to dance in and out of?

As a dedicated raider from vanilla to wotlk, returning back to game after a decade, all i can say is things have become so complicated that one's head hurts. There is like 30 mechanics in just this one fight lol.. The amount of circles and effects during combat happening same time and overlaping can give someone epileptic attack, and makes it impossible to follow, rotations and number of abilities are crazy, no amount of realistically usable key binds available for them all, the amount of buffs and debuffs impossible to track and so on. No wonder people relly on addons so much, dumbing it down to voice yellong get the F out, and hekilli rotations etc.
Naturally, people got more skilled and experienced, and it should be harder then back in the day, but this overcomplicating and amount of things beats the purpose. The whole game has become like that, with the amount of activities and quests, hidden things, things there is no possible way to figure out (have a buff from eating mushroom in zone X, show up at night in zone x, bow three times, item will show up that you pick, and then in dungeon x use it when boss x does an x cast kind of thing). So people hae to use wowhead all the time.
The fact that people cant play without so many addons and a reference site in itself whows the things are not good.
