I typically use graveyard hate in my lands: Scavenger Grounds, Abstergo Entertainment, Pit of Offerings for any color, and Bokuka Bog and Boggart Traveler in black. I really like using Guardian of Faith in white decks to protect my creatures since it phases them out, especially since it can't be countered by things like fierce guardianship, negate, swan song, etc. It feels like a card that's been slept on quite a bit.
I am building a Magnus the Red x-spells deck. It’s about go wide and then have a ton of cost reduction with Magnus on the boatd on your instant and sorceries. You have shown Defense Grid and it just appeared to me that the cost increase to cast spells on opponents turn, affects me way less, since I can reduce cost with enough tokens out, while my opponents will struggle to run counter Magic and pay the 3 extra cost. Thanks for the idea! 😄
I agree that Split Up looks really good, and I'm looking forward to trying it out Player hexproof used to be my go-to in graveyard decks to protect my yard from getting exiled, but a lot of effects exile each opponent's graveyard now. Most common I would see used to be bojuka bog, now I think it's Soul-Guide Lantern or Farewell. It changes things up enough so that I don't opt for player hexproof and instead just try to be able to survive getting my graveyard nuked.
For lands players: Always be aware that Opposition Agent-like effects, Blood Moon effects, and MLD effects will come up. If your landbase is mostly basics you can use this in your favor.
Turn 2-3 Stony Silence vs. artifact/colorless deck is always fun (for me). Also, turn 2 Hishbringer is just good fun (especially if it sticks since it's in Feather, which means it can be protected fairly easily once I get running).
Ok. I prepare indestructability, they exile me, i prepare prot. From color, they sey you sacrafice 6, i play fast and glascannony, turn 5,6, and 7 bordwipes are casted... It feels like only One good strategy is to not do anything all game, exept control and removal, ramp, and than at 8 mana win with two card combo.
I feel your pain Mate. The way I Deal with stuff Like that is, I Switch some cards for Counterspells If im in blue Tamiyos safekeeping and similar spels If im in Green Lorans escape for single target protection, and eerie interlude for boardwide protection If im in White You can pretty much Always Put kayas Ghostform, or reanimation, If you're in black And Red Kind of sucks at protecting stuff.
Everything can be stopped, but you won't stop everything. Just choose the removal that best fits your strategy (counterspells/protection against wipes, burn or bounce for aggro, target/wipes/counter for control). Another strategy is to generate value or efficiently draw more cards, since removal is often 1 to 1. If you can draw more they can remove, you will exhaust their resources, allowing to ease into the plan you want to do. Greed/value isn't always just playing 1 big play, but generating crazy value from 2-3 small or medium plays. Last strategy is just remove the few things that hold your opponent's deck together, so after their key parts are gone they're not a threat, even if they play other cards.
Try not to be the first one to pop off. Hold up interaction to stop any single one player from winning, set yourself up to pop, let someone else pop first, the board immediately with try to stop them, stay out of it if you can. Then, after resources have been expended, pop off and win.
As a control player the best advice I can give is play less optimal to make me lose value on removal. Additionally, if you have more card draw and mana than me I won’t be able to stop you long term. Ive learned theres an answer for everything it just matters whether i can answer it in time.
Haha facts in my Gruul Superfriends Deck i run one with the Kami All my creatures after a board wipe turn into MORE CREATURES Also planeswalkers make more creatures - NEVER ENDING CREATURES
Love the video but I would love to see some more mono color solutions playing mono red I struggle against some if not all of these and don't have a lot of options it seems
Elixir of Immortality to shuffle your graveyard into your library Bolt Bend, Return the Favor and Deflecting Swat to redirect single target removal Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast for countering Blue Valakut Awakening to get a new hand War's Toll and Price of Glory are nasty Red Enchantments Sword of Light and Shadow is a great equipment that gives your creature protection from White and Black, the 2 best colors at single target removal
I play red stax/burn. Storm Cauldron, Damping Sphere, God-Pharoh's statue, Vexing Bauble, etc. It really slows down my opponents and lets me set up. Not always works, but it will help. Commander is Ojer Axonil and a lot of pingers and one damage dealers. Also the damage doublers. Got the leylines and the ones azelia mentioned. There are always cards out there that will help, just dig. Love playing stuff that nobody has seen before. Some janky card that wouldn't go in anything else.
2:45 Chiming in to say, Sejiri Shelter doesn't protect your whole board - but I assume you know as much. If you're reading this, please don't leave more comments like this.
I've been running jeskai go wide weenie tokens lately, I really enjoy it but another important thing I've realized is that ALL of my board wipes need to be assymetrical in some way. Dusk/Dawn, Hour of Reckoning, etc. I don't even run Time Wipe. Board wipes are so bad that I have to leave most of my things intact even when I do it. I also run plenty of protection, but recovery is a form of protection too. As situational as it is, I run Revivify because I've been board wiped with no counter magic before and I'll play that on the opponents end step, I lose a ton of tokens for sure, but I also lost 8 or 9 non token creatures. Either I get it all back to hand and play what I can next turn or I get those all back on field. It's one of the slept on d20 cards imo, I do understand because it's hard to hold up the 3 mana, and if you don't need it it's a bit of a dead card, but I also run a lot of my red in treasures. A full Farewell hits uncontested, well, what can you do.
I try to build my decks to have as much interaction as I can, and run interactions that fit within the theme of the deck if able. I try to run about 12 pieces of targeted removal, and three boardwipes. The way I see it, it's at least 4 pieces of interaction and a boardwipe per opponent. Some deck may vary but that's my baseline.
@@threeeon Chaosphere, Mystic Decree and Bower Passage are each in at least one of my decks 🍻 Sometimes I laugh reading comments where someone will be saying card X or Y is wrecking their games; I think to myself, 'I bet flying has wrecked more games for them and they don't even realise.'!
Im playing a mono-white avacyn deck and I really struggle when I get my 8 mana commander counterspelled. The problem is that in mono white there are little to none counterspells
The best decks I have are the ones where I don't NEED to cast my commander as soon as I'm able to. They're either an engine or a payoff that I can cast once or twice in the game to enable my deck.
The second I saw a card specificy "non-gnome", i had the thought "can you make a racist deck? Either only allowing one species on the board, or actively hunting a species? Would that be an anti tribal deck? Im rusty on my terminology so im not too sure
What about mono red? There's no protection aside from generic artifacts which are slow or people can see coming. Do you just have to have lots of redundancy and try to go even faster than anyone else?
so the crawlspace is annoying if you're playing Anim Pakal, right? but in commander you have 2 other opponents.... so that really shouldn't be a problem...
if you're in blue there are some things you just cant do about. Sometimes you dont draw your counterspells. Or maybe the counterspell isnt enough. Sometimes giving something hexproof isnt enough cause someone is putting things back to hand or exiling without targetting. if anyone wants some advice.... run PHASE SPELLS. it feels so good to avoid things or let stuff resolve thats gonna hurt EVERYONE but now not you. Slip out the back and reality shift your Voltron card... you wanna protect multiple creatures and have everyone else eat a board wipe? Run change of plans. And they are all cheap. I honestly dont see how these cards arent staples.
When you play chaos, your strategy is invulnerable. Good luck removing my Grip of Chaos when all targeting is random. Most players don't play mass enchantment removal other than Cyclonic Rift and Farewell, and they don't check their luck with random targeting either. Possibility Storm is another great card. The only real requirement is you should have win strategy which is not spoiled by your chaos pieces but you usually don't have problems with it.
I have an Orzhov Lich King deck where I flash in a Platinum Angel when I'm about to lose then I protect Platinum Angel with cards like Avacyn, Serra's Angel, and rebuff the wicked. How do I protect Platinum Angel against stuff like sacrifice, exile, phasing, and bounce?
@@zweis thats a rough ask lmao - you’ll need hexproof on yourself haha Its up to you if you feel that theres enough usage of spells similar to that in your playgroup to consider running cards that give you hexproof. Finally if worse come to worse i recommend attempting the book of exalted deeds + mutavault combo if your going in that direction I do like the idea of using lose the game/ cant lose the game cards. Check out 8th Place Dave he has a deck very similar on yt!
I would add as well. Speed. The faster your deck runs the better you can protect your game plan. Even control decks have this kind of functionality where if you make a control deck that burns your opponents decks out faster than they can play. This is card draw, mill and Stax that force your opponents to play their deck in a janky way.

I really like Guardian of Faith. I call it the "poor man's version" of Teferi's Protection 😂
split up is... the holy grail for aggro decks, tap out, and in your second main everyone else ceases to exist.

Like the none white background :)
