  • Isn’t she beautiful? Well, not particularly. Midge is definitely not the most glamorous, or gorgeous, but she was made that way on purpose. More so than today, Barbie back in the early 60s caused quite a stir. Most of it was positive. But some of it was negative. To the conservative parents who didn’t like Barbie’s glamorous look, Mattel made midge in efforts to still be able to market to them. She was labeled “girl next door” and truthfully she was. Where Barbie at that time was more pensive and alluring, Midge was more approachable. With her forward gaze, usually derpy. And little smile, which first editions had teeth later ones didn’t, she was a cute alternative. And cute was the game plan, as Tammy was around at this time as well as many other competitors, but Tammy didn’t have Barbie’s glamorous wardrobe or Mattel’s expert design team. Midge did. She prevailed until 1967, where Mattel ditched Midge, Allen, and Ken, for Barbie’s new MOD look and her on going career as a fashion model. As at this time Barbie ditched her other careers to just have one. Being a fashion model!
In this video I will discuss and show in detail how to clean, repaint, and restyle her hair! I hope this is helpful to you and a good resource for you. Enjoy!!

I absolutely love your channel! Your sense of humor is on Point period. You are hilarious. You make me happy and you’re so knowledgeable. I have a vintage Barbie number four or five not sure which one she has but she has the green ears. Can you do a video about that and extensive step-by-step instructions? Thank you! My new favorite channel by far! Also, do you have an Instagram?

Thank you!! Midge is fun because she has so many different looks and styles her face was painted. I personally love the earlier midges. They are the most unattractive, but it gives them a certain flair!

@@disneybarbiegirl615 It's all about the magic we create. That's the fun part, making something that looks weird or unattractive like a work of art! You might have inspired me to start my own Channel! LOL

Good job with homely old Midge! Poor girl. I'd bet that doll never saw so much love!!!❤ I also have some Midges the one with brunette hair I ventured to give her some reddish orange lips and the result was pretty. On a sandy blonde I gave her a nice golden brown brow with a nicer shape, touched her eyes with a metallic blue for the iris but very slightly then gave her a raspberry coloured lipstick 💄! What a happy and pretty change. I enjoy your crazy videos!!!😊

Thank you so much!! I hope midge felt the love. She’s so cute when she looks new. Sometimes midges can look ugly, no matter what you do with them. But I’ve seen the most beautiful customs! By the way you spoke, I bet your midges are gorgeous! I actually just found another midge who’s in worse condition. So I may revisit her lol

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I do agree, the off set booby-eyed faces that Mattel gave to some of those Midges were ghastly! So if one wants to keep to "original" then tuff luck. I, personally, try not to venture too far, she's not Barbie, but a little imagination, and she can turn out really cute/pretty, but with some character! I also watched your tutorial on refreshing a "pretty Francie". You'd mentioned she had a nick on her nose, I had bought a beat-up Bubble cut, her poor nose was bitten off at the tip, I took a bead of a little clear vinyl glue on a skewer and applied it to the area! Voila!!! It formed perfectly and assumed the natural color of the vinyl in her face! With a little rerooting in her missing plugs & painting, she became a knock-out!!! Sorry for the long reply! Thanks again!!🌋💄

What kind of gel did you water down and what the mix ratio? The way it brushed out turned out so nice. I would have thought the gel would get flaky when brushed out.

I used got to be glued, one small dollop. Then the rest is water. Shake it up and boom! You have a perm kit! I can do a whole video on it if you’d like.
