I first fished that spot as a small boy in September 1956 with my Dad. The spot is called the bathtub. Fishing there was like fishing in a bathtub. You should have seen the Smallies, Pike, Largemouth, and panfish. I caught my 1st largemouth with a lure you may remember called the Bass-a-Reno. The first place I stopped on my way home from Vietnam fresh out of Cambodia was the Bathtub, circa 1970. When I was getting my Pilot's license I used to break flight rules on my cross countries and come to water level and fly the pond on my return to Rochester NY from Watertown. When we started fishing there the guide fee was $15-25/day and the guides had 19-23' Lyman's with 109-135HP inboards. It was difficult to get in and the water is shallow. You can explain Stoney to people and no matter how good their imagination they will never understand what you are saying. But when the wind is right, and the current rushes in the the Pond......well, I guess you have to be there. Lt. Joseph Grossman, 1/5 Cavalry, RVN 1969-70. Albert Einstein College of Medicine 1978.
I looked closely at your video again and I noticed the boat that docked. I would swear that is the same Steelcraft that plied Lake Ontario between Henderson Harbor and Stoney since the 1960's- taking guests of Phillip's 66 who owned the island out to Stoney no matter how rough it got.. The boat used to dock at Eastman Marina in Henderson and my Dad kept our Lyman there.
I forgot to mention, My Dad took me there.. He first went there with a man Named Charlie Henchen in 1945-46. My uncle took my father out with Charlie to help him recover from a year in Stalag Luft III as a POW airman and B-24 navigator. Charlie's fishing camp remains today. Small world
Lake Ontario hardly ever disappoints!
