It's gotta be mentioned that having a youtube channel with 500k subs definitely helped here. Any A&R did their research and any good A&R knew who Ocean was already - it's their job to know. So, folks gotta put in the work to build their own fanbase like Ocean has first, before going to labels.
To answer that "5 minute beat thing", music works the same way as conversation. When having a conversation , just like when listening to music , our brain waves start to align based on how focused, how much we "relate", and how long the conversation lasts. When you spend a hours on music, beats especially, you run the risk of making it more like a specialized, in depth conversation so to speak. When you spend 5 minutes it's more "vague" allowing more people to "understand" the conversation your having musically.
Congrats on getting your track signed! Once you release on a label a ton more would come. One advice, when sending demos to labels, instead of putting (Demo) on the tittle u should put (Label name). It looks more personal. Good luck!
i got paid by UMG before. One of their artists found one of my beats on UA-cam and they wanted the exclusive rights to it. I sold 100% of those exclusive rights to them for $2000 and it took almost 7 months to get my payment… that was fucking annoying… but yeah…Good luck with that contract Ocean!
@@EverythingOnFinance You have to create a supplier account first at their Uniport. Then they have to approve. Ocean love these new vids man congrats on getting interest from labels 🙏 Would you consider doing a 30 min vid about producing house/edm for people that started with trap beats? I especially struggle with structure, stuff like effective risers, downlifters, shakers and just good movement in general. Way more difficult than rap to keep the listener invested.
Absolutely love these tracks, these would sound even better with some vocals, i would definitely listen without, but more likely to go viral with more vocals Much love, been following you couple years now, you really opened my eyes with what is possible as a producer🔥
I think it’s the new studio he’s in. Very echoey in there, he should throw some sound deadening up on the walls edit: okay I got half way through the video and he did mention that already 😂
Sad to say that's not true. As a "Dance" music producer myself, any of the Big three will shaft you the same as a rapper. The way to do it if you wanna go that route is use a publisher. If you wanna be a Producer/DJ in Dance music, you need to find the record labels that aren't massive, but will give you the exposure you need, and also support you as an artist. I have music coming out on a new underground DnB label and they've already sorted me out multiple gigs to get my name out there.
Not just the big 3 but a good stack of the indies too. Or you just never get paid.... im on a compilation from a big indie in the DnB space ive never see a £0.01 on. Also had some mad low ball offers, where its just like "il DIY this thanks"
Ever heard about outliers? These are for the avg artists an outlier is someone who doesn't represents the average artists one example will be martin garrix
@@kidsonicofficial have to say I know Andy on Hospital and his experience has been amazingly positive apart from 2020 when the whole label just kinda pulled budget on everyone. Buuuut so did like every hospitality industry. 6 years though and I’ve never see a penny 😂 Playaz gave me a laughable offer once too. Now though as I REALLY don’t want to play shows or play any of that game at all I’m of now value to a label anyways.
yessssir i prod trap but ive been trying to prod edm more recently too. EDM is soooo much more better and harder to prod no one can disagree with that tbh
Hey Ocean! I emailed you to ask if you can make some melody for my acapella french song, I never got an answer... Serious inquiry from NYC. Work for hire
A quick look at the labels you sent your demos to it seems that your music is quite a way off for what some of these labels ate looking for. As great as a producer that you are you can actually hear that you lack deeper experience and understanding in certain house genres. None of what you showed here I would ever send to the famous Drumcode label for instance, it's just not techno enough and a waste of time. To understand what that label needs you need to understand where it's coming from and I suggest you start by listening to some Adam Beyer records from the nineties. This guy and his label basically popularized the rolling kick that's signature of the techno sound. To even get a better understanding of what these labels need I suggest you take the train/plane to Berlin after ADE and visit famous clubs like Berghain and Tresor, feel the atmosphere, and maybe THEN you start to understand what to make for this label. In conclusion Having been an A&R manager of 5 house labels myself, I'm convinced that your bird shot approach of just spamming to major house labels and see what sticks is a complete waste of time. If you're lacking the personal connections then it becomes all the more important to do your homework properly for a label and actually be a genuine fan.
I'm enjoying your transition to EDM. Welcome to the gang, boss 👀
for real, it’s good to see some more creative on this channel
agreed
Didn't know this, that's nice
massive bro congrats

This EDM transition so important. Edm industry is producer first as artists rather than service providers it makes my heart happy when people do this.
ur not the only one. i spent months on a beat I wanted on my album. everyone loves the type beats and not those
For the last 10 years I still have to ask this same question though, Why would you want to sign to a label???
What an amazing video, really detailed. I appreciated this video. Thank you bro.
🙏
Hey I’m Alex ocho, I’m a writer at complex I’d like us to work together
Dope to see you pursue music as an artist!🔥 And have you considered the VSX headphones for mixing? They’re amazing
Congratulations! 🎉 Well deserved man! Being signed is amazing once you get used to it, the pro music business got a cheat sheet 😎🎧
The feeling of your first release is just something els. Congrat!

I'm waiting for over 3 years now to get paid. Setting up Uniport is a pain in the butt.

ive never heard melodic club tracks like this. definitely says like you've found your sound
Leeets fuckin goo Ocean, your music speaks for itself. No surprise that you find success. Dope video man
HUGE! Even more HUGE with the surprise at the end.
Congratulations Ocean 🎉😊
Beautiful video as always❤️
The track at 4:00 is the way forward. Keep it vibing, add different textures and layers, and make it so the listener can go on a listening journey.
yo what is that thing you enable on gmail that you were talking about at 5:20 ??? I'd love to have that as well
Congratulations Ocean, this is great news and a good achievement.
the „timing not being right“ is also just another way for a label to say they’re not interested btw
Thanks for the inspiring video. What did the gmail tool show you? Were there emails that were never opened?
He commented "Mailtrack" to someone else. Which now goes by "mailsuite"
Fantabulous! I'm delighted to hear the news about your connection to a recording label.
This is huge bruh make it happen 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Great video Ocean
sample sound like the first Apple Loop I ever used lol
I just sent songs to labels and just gor my first song signed to an label which is releasing 1st of November (its a pretty big label)
Sounds like dragging and dropping Logic Loops not gonna lie. Still makes me think of Timberlands advice to you....
Good luck you got this!
4:00 go craaazy
your awesome man ! so helpful Im about to do the same for the first time , really appreciate your content ,
Hey, where did you get that spreadsheet with the a&r's?👀
Congratulations. Great video.
Super cool! If you only sent one track to each label how did you decide which track to send
Going to ADE as well later this year!
Looking forward to your next video of “How to get out of a crappy record deal” 😂
Hey bro have you ever thought about using pinknoise to use to mix down with?
Damn! Nice tunes
If they only sign your TRACK(S), you're not signed to the label per-se
I like this guy. Subscribed!
whats the deal with the mic ocean the quality been going down each video

I think it depends if you have independent leverage or not. You can get better terms since you dont need them. Thats the only way

where could we get the label contact sheet ocean? :) 👀

So what was the label mate?????
Pretty dope that 3rd track!
I was at ADE last year. Pretty sick event dude
Whoah .. Ocean where's the dreadlocks??😊

that 3rd song !!!!!!!!!!
u be sending emails like those ppl who charges u 50 bucks for fake placement
