This is great! The films you have been uploading have been gems that would have never been seen if it wasn;t for youtube! Any more vids about Sydney and Melbourne during the 70s? I loved the one about haymarket in Sydney! Thank you.

Interesting, post Vietnam through the 80s defence went no where and were underfunded, new doctrine of conventional warfare post Vietnam, and the pressure applied by the wives. Then there’s the stuff around by command.

That's why it was called 'The Quiet Years' after 9/11 when the world went crazy.

This pretty much sums up the Army in 1973. Gough had gutted the ADF post Vietnam and people were leaving in droves. After being on overseas deployments almost continuously from 1945 to 1972, the Army entered a period where if you joined in 1973 there was a very real chance that you would never see any overseas service anywhere. This did not really change apart from a few small deployments until East Timor in 1999, that's 26 years of a peacetime Army.

@ConceptualMadness Thanks. Yes YT is certainly providing an outlet for the collection that otherwise would be vault bound. We have thousands more films to upload - lots about the various cities and towns of Australia and some interesting overseas material too. Keep Watching.

Of course he stayed in, he saw those buckets heading out with the dawn and the spirit of the Digger stirred within his breast. No office job and $10k a year could compete with that!

Interesting that Hunter is putting on a Received Pronunciation in this, very different to his later voice. Was this how officers spoke at the time?
