HOMESTEADING Off The Grid and On A Mountain We Roll With The Challenges Up Here Vlog 95

  • Even though we'll be building a new off grid cabin, we're still moving forward with our plans here at the homestead. The seeds have been started in the greenhouse and we're expanding our gardens to nearly twice the capacity that we grew last year but unexpected challenges occur. Can I fix my Kioti tractor with a wine cork and pieces of an old rubber boot and get our garden prep finished before my project is buried under snow? Watch and see as our journey unfolds.

"I fix my Kioti tractor with a wine cork and pieces of an old rubber boot"
Totally impressed with the fix of the tractor. One thing that truly paid off is your storage system to know where your stuff is located. It takes a sharp mind to think of how to fix it, along with some forethought of proper storage, you didn't have to take the entire day to find the odds and ends to do the repair. Salute to you Boss and Mama.

My late father would always refer to it as "a window of opportunity". The soil is dry but precip is coming, we have a window of opportunity to get the garden ready today. Big brush piles to burn, snow on the ground, low winds, we have a window of opportunity to burn today. Mom gone to lunch and a matinee with some friends, we have a window of opportunity to drink some beer today. He was always plotting and planning for the most efficient and opportunistic use of his time. SITUATIONAL AWARENESS! His mindset, although a wee bit compulsive and consuming for me, taught me a ton about homesteading successfully. And about always being aware of what is going on around you.

They put a plastic bushing in there, when something like brass would last much much longer, possibly even a lifetime. If you plan on keeping it long term, you might find a local machine shop who could duplicate those bushing in brass. Take care! - Stephen

So I cut a washing up rubber glove into "elastic bands" and used a couple of those and they work perfectly. :) Great stuff, rubber.

Ball sockets are a pretty common hardware item. Metric threads for sure. Our Ace Hdw. carries them in many sizes. Basically the hole in the ball and thread size are all that matter. That boot must not drain the rain water as it looks like those bolts were corroded badly. Start soaking them with penetrant oil.
