He said something like "I wrote the songs so I know what I was feeling but he'll come in take 10 minutes read the lyrics and sing it in his own way. He never once asked me what was I thinking or feeling when I wrote. He would just sing it in his way-- which as you can see worked out well" I look at this as Noel making Wonderwall his own and not approaching it from Liams perspective which is the perspective we all know and love. This version of Whatever is spectacular. The studio version is probably my favorite Oasis song of al time (closely followed by Stay Young). Whoever wrote the original string arrangement is a beautiful person. Love!

The sombre look on Noel's face at the end, listening to the string quartet and the choir's arrangement of his song, must have hit him as the zenith of what he wanted all these years ago. He probably wrote 'Whatever' after work at home, since he worked for the gas board before Oasis got signed. I know he's had big crowds sing his songs back throughout the 90s, but this is a nice musical moment, musical beyond guitar music of the group. He and Oasis can't compete with the musical impact of the 60s, but here's his contribution to his country's music.
