The Talbiyah is a prayer recited by Muslims during the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages to Mecca. It is a declaration of the pilgrim’s intention to perform the pilgrimage solely for the sake of Allah. The Talbiyah is usually recited aloud and repeatedly throughout the pilgrimage, especially when the pilgrim first enters the state of Ihram (a state of ritual purity and dedication). The words of the Talbiyah are:
Arabic:
لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ
Transliteration:
Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik, Labbaik Laa Shareeka Laka Labbaik, Innal Hamda Wannimatah Laka Wal Mulk, Laa Shareeka Laka.
Translation:
"Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Surely all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner."
