"Hello...My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father...prepare to die." How can you top a character introduction in which he literally introduces himself over and over again!
For a Star Wars character intro, I personally would have picked Palpatine in Episode VI. The reveal is just so perfect. You see Vader bowing down to the one man more powerful than him, and he finally reveals himself to be "just" an old man with a cane. It perfectly captures the deceptive nature and hidden power that defines the Emperor's character.
+Raul Victor I've never really considered that an official introduction, since he appears once, briefly, in hologram form, and never again for the rest of the movie. He doesn't really start directly affecting the story until RotJ.
For me it’s Darth Vader. I wouldn’t really call that a character introduction since we see him as a hologram in empire strikes back. But to be honest pretty much all the characters in the original trilogy have amazing introductions.
Eh, you get the point either way. Han isn't responding to Greedo's shot, so his intention remains the same regardless of whether Greedo gets a shot off or not.
No, I mean he has his gun out before Greedo shows any intention of shooting. Even if he didn't shoot first, he wasn't provoked by Greedo, and he would've shot whether Greedo did anything or not.

Even though it's obvious why it was overlooked, I really enjoy the introduction of Commodus in Gladiator. It's quite subtle, but you can already glean his madness in that quaint conversation with his sister. And it only goes downwards from there... It was the role that introduced me to Joaquin Phoenix's acting genius, and he has yet to disappoint...
they say "Han shot first" because that is the popular thing to say, and then they show the 2007 blue ray edition where they changed it to Greedo shooting first.
Glad to see good old Frank N. Furter on this list. I swear, I saw this the first time when I was 10 years old and it was the creepiest, coolest thing ever for me for a long time. The feeling of danger approaching the heroes, the music hinting at something dark and sinister coming down the elevator and suddenly...... BAMM.....Tim Curry in drag. Biggest mind-blowing scene of my childhood.
I always thought the entering of jake blues, played by john belushi in Blues Brothers was one of the best character introductions ever designed. Completely sold me on the movie.
Henry Fonda as Frank in Once Upon a Time in the West. We get to see a great actor play a bad guy for once and his introduction is absolutely amazing. It should be on this list
The terrorist V from V for vendetta, the scene in which he saves Evey and does his speech with words beginning with V shows his planning for the "chance" encounter. My favorite introduction scene.
I would have included Miss Gulch/The Wicked Witch of the West from WIZARD OF OZ because she gets not one but two great introductions! First, when Miss Gulch first appears on the bicycle and the theme music plays, it's just an iconic moment! Second, when she first appears as the Witch in Munchkinland. She literally interrupts the song and explodes her way into the scene with fire and brimstone! Now that is a hell of a way to introduce a badass character!
One of my favorite intros to a character has got to be of Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark. So perfect how we don't see his face, he kicks some ass and then steps out of the shadows and BAM...meet Indiana Jones. Seriously should have at least gotten a mention.
they should do an animated version of this but like movie starts example shrek intro the first time we ever see him was just pure awesome and cars the whole lightning mcqueen intro was one of my favourites!
I cannot BELIEVE that the cigarette following flourish that introduces Humphrey Bogart's Rick Blaine in "Casablanca" was nowhere on this list, when it ought to be at number one! Huge oversight.

For me personally nothing beats the Jesus Quintana character introduction in The Big Lebowski. It shows everything you need to know about him and everything the 3 main characters think about him.
I usually hate their a lot of their choices in these things, but out of all their countdowns, I think I agree with this one more than any other mojo list. There will always be some favorites that get left out that probably deserve to be among the best of all time, but I think all of those introductions on this list deserve to be top 10 introductions.
I'm sorry (and SPOILER ALERT!),but no ..the puppet talking to Amanda in Saw should not count as Jigsaws big reveal /introduction, it should be when John Kramer reveals that he was the dead guy in the bathroon the whole time!
Love the intro of Sam Gerard in The Fugitive. He steps out of his car, surveys the horrible train wreck and, in a bored drawl says "My my my my what a mess." Awesome.
A pretty solid list! I also love the character intros for Ferris Bueller, Juliet in the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet, Ron Burgundy in Anchorman, and V from V for Vendetta
you missed the Third Man. the introduction to Harry. it is such an amazing experience to watch the sound the cinematography. the back story of what is believed to be a dead character. and then the astonishing score to accompany it. what were you thinking?
Henry Fonda's character in "Once upon a time in the West". It was the first villian of his career, so the scene was made to surprise the audience, nobody was expecting him to play such a ruthless character, everyone thought he would be the hero, as always :)
Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,The Wolf in Into The Woods,Stanley Yelnats IV in Holes,George in George of the Jungle,Edward Cullen in Twilight,Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,Norman Stansfield in Leon: The Professional,Xerxes in 300 and The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz.
Too many to name. James Bond was a good choice for number one, considering just how iconic and long lasting the character ended up being. I'm surprised that Blade wasn't mentioned.
The reveal of Darkness in Legend comes to mind. Hard to top a devil stepping out of a mirror. There's also Alexander de Large in A Clockwork Orange, Blade in his first movie, Saruman in fellowship of the ring and Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian.
So many were left out. Here's another list in no particular order (including, non-human characters): Omar Sharif's character in Lawrence of Arabia; Henry Lime in The Third Man; Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark; King Kong in the original movie; Gilda in Gilda; Frank and Harmonica in Once Upon a Time in the West; Darth Vader in Star Wars; Chestbuster Alien in Alien; Shark in Jaws; and T-Rex in Jurassic Park.
No Jack Sparrow ?
+SiempreGaga Was expecting him at least in the mentions but...
yes jack sparrow
abc
SiempreGaga depends... is the rum gone
Thank you for saving me 12 minutes.
I am missing the legendary intro of Jack Sparrow.
Captain Jack Sparrow
Yesbest ever
Gary Oldman in "Léon - The Professional"
"I like these calm little moments before the storm. It reminds me of Beethoven".
hell yeah
EVVVVEERRYYYOOONNNEE!
+Kyle Dick
I haven't got time for this Mickey Mouse bullshit!
I luuurve Mozart!
+Ninaofthe90s I expected Leon to be on the list too :(
The T. rex from Jurassic park should have been on this
00999000999099
Detective?
Deteeective?
DETECTIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVEEEE!!!?!?!?!
Kevin Mercado John Doe,right?? But it would be a spoiler
TV Show: "Supernatural"
Character Introduction Scene: Death
+Keith Phillips If it was top 10 tv shows, fuck yeah it would be first!
+Maiylo8 Nothing has ever made me express "Oh Shit," quite like that!
Epicc :)
+Cinematic Top 10 He is legit!
*****
"Hello...My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father...prepare to die."
How can you top a character introduction in which he literally introduces himself over and over again!
I LOVE Hannibal!
+DeathCreationist Love the show, not the films
Hannibal the films are extraordinary for most viewers, oh well.
I like the books better than the film and the show.
He loves you too, cooked that is
Cha Cha Boedigheimer books always overrule everything.
How did Gatsby not get an honorable mention?
+echo_503 Or Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before Christmas?
+echo_503 That one is honestly my number 1.
That one was so epic imo
echo_503 cause Gatsby sucked
For a Star Wars character intro, I personally would have picked Palpatine in Episode VI. The reveal is just so perfect. You see Vader bowing down to the one man more powerful than him, and he finally reveals himself to be "just" an old man with a cane. It perfectly captures the deceptive nature and hidden power that defines the Emperor's character.
+C Mufasa Well put.
you seen him in the hologram in 5 though
+Raul Victor I've never really considered that an official introduction, since he appears once, briefly, in hologram form, and never again for the rest of the movie. He doesn't really start directly affecting the story until RotJ.
For me it’s Darth Vader. I wouldn’t really call that a character introduction since we see him as a hologram in empire strikes back. But to be honest pretty much all the characters in the original trilogy have amazing introductions.
Conde Olaf? the most sassy and evil: "Hello hello hello"
Erm.....
wow i agree
+Muggy ( ͡ • ͜ ʖ ͡•) I am your beloved Count Olaf
+Muggy ( ͡ • ͜ ʖ ͡•) Count*
He could follow is funniest entrances. But I'm surprised the bear Jew wasn't on it
No Terminator?
True
no Alien breaking chest scene?
+aceholeas Nothing clean, right.
+aceholeas Nice night for a walk.
I need your baoots, Clores and your motacycle
Nice job bleeping that one "fucking" Hartman says. Lmao.
+Mr Grape Butter they actually did bleep it out when talking about gauging his eyeballs.
yeah. why so inconsistent?
2:15
+Mr Grape Butter Yeah, I thought it was odd that they bleeped that, but not any of the other racial slurs.
Jack Sparrow? I was expecting him to be number 1
Orson Welles in Citizen Kane and in The Third Man
+nonlinearmind ooh, good one. esp Third Man I think
ps, greedo never shot in the original cut.
that is an excellent point
Eh, you get the point either way. Han isn't responding to Greedo's shot, so his intention remains the same regardless of whether Greedo gets a shot off or not.
+TheGooseinator - Isn't responding? Did you miss the part when he bends his entire neck to dodge the shot?
No, I mean he has his gun out before Greedo shows any intention of shooting. Even if he didn't shoot first, he wasn't provoked by Greedo, and he would've shot whether Greedo did anything or not.
If he hadn't "responded" that way he would've died, and that's a change that everyone REALLY would've hated XD
Tony Hopkins in "The Silence of the Lambs" simply cannot be beat. Pure cinematic genius.
Captain Jack Sparrow has by far the best intro.

You forgot Alex DeLarge...again.
+angelpuckett01 MILK AND ULTRA VIOLENCE
+angelpuckett01 That should have been number one
+angelpuckett01 I really thought that would be number one :/
+Angelpuckett01 Yeah. That's unacceptable
+polly jagger Yeah, I was waiting for that too
they say "Han shot first" because that is the popular thing to say, and then they show the 2007 blue ray edition where they changed it to Greedo shooting first.
Because logic.
Where the hell is Johnny Depp in Pirates of the caribbean? That was truly epic!
What about, Indiana Jones, Tyler Durden, the Terminator, the Xenomorph?
Glad to see good old Frank N. Furter on this list. I swear, I saw this the first time when I was 10 years old and it was the creepiest, coolest thing ever for me for a long time. The feeling of danger approaching the heroes, the music hinting at something dark and sinister coming down the elevator and suddenly...... BAMM.....Tim Curry in drag.
Biggest mind-blowing scene of my childhood.
What??? No Indiana Jones?
I know, I didn't even get an honorable mention.
Indiana Jones
I soon as i saw the opening scene, i was hooked!
Yeah where the fuck is he
smokert5555 that was for another list
I always thought the entering of jake blues, played by john belushi in Blues Brothers was one of the best character introductions ever designed. Completely sold me on the movie.
uhm ... didn't they do this one already?
+Shades watchmojo does copy right?
they had "Top 10 face reveals" and "Top 10 epic entrances". I guess this list is for an entire scene/sequence, not just a moment
StrasbergProtégé so they do copy right I don't watch watchmojo vids a lot it's a yes or no question do they copy right
ghost noob
I was answering the first question. The one about copyright showed up while I was writing
ghost noob
But they sometimes have a text that says "courtesy of...", so I guess that answer is yes
Henry Fonda as Frank in Once Upon a Time in the West. We get to see a great actor play a bad guy for once and his introduction is absolutely amazing. It should be on this list
Jack... Sorry! Captain Jack Sparrow's introduction was one of the most epic!
The terrorist V from V for vendetta, the scene in which he saves Evey and does his speech with words beginning with V shows his planning for the "chance" encounter. My favorite introduction scene.
I think you forgot John Doe in Se7en.
Bill Nye as Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest!!!! "Do you fear death?"
cesar antonio I don't think the science guy played Davy Jones. Unless they have the same name in which case you are right but I'm not sure
I knew Hans Landa would be on here
great scene
I would have included Miss Gulch/The Wicked Witch of the West from WIZARD OF OZ because she gets not one but two great introductions! First, when Miss Gulch first appears on the bicycle and the theme music plays, it's just an iconic moment! Second, when she first appears as the Witch in Munchkinland. She literally interrupts the song and explodes her way into the scene with fire and brimstone! Now that is a hell of a way to introduce a badass character!
If Javier(?) Bardem then why not Anton Chigurh ("NO country for old men")?
One of my favorite intros to a character has got to be of Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark. So perfect how we don't see his face, he kicks some ass and then steps out of the shadows and BAM...meet Indiana Jones. Seriously should have at least gotten a mention.
No Tyler Durden from Fight Club?
they should do an animated version of this but like movie starts example shrek intro the first time we ever see him was just pure awesome and cars the whole lightning mcqueen intro was one of my favourites!
What about Darth Vader entrance????
I cannot BELIEVE that the cigarette following flourish that introduces Humphrey Bogart's Rick Blaine in "Casablanca" was nowhere on this list, when it ought to be at number one! Huge oversight.
what about the introduction to Strider/Eragon in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring? That scene was pretty awesome
Aragorn
Where is Frank (Henry Fonda) from "Once upona time in the West"?

Captain Jack Sparrow.
Lord Voldemort.
Jack Skellington.
O-ren Ishii.
Yzma.
PS. What's the constant soundtrack?
That's the one I was going for.
Quirrel revealing him as a parasite wasn't shitty though.
Now....what's the soundtrack? I MUST KNOW.
THE Bear Jeweils - Inglourios Basterds ?
The Bear Jew
you missed Antonio Banderas in Desperado. The introduction scene really builds an anticipation and fear into the opponents minds.
I watched this just for Dr. Frank N' Furter.
same.
I usually hate their a lot of their choices in these things, but out of all their countdowns, I think I agree with this one more than any other mojo list. There will always be some favorites that get left out that probably deserve to be among the best of all time, but I think all of those introductions on this list deserve to be top 10 introductions.
I really expect Shrek :'-(
LOL
Special thanks to our user MikeyP for submitting the idea on our Interactive Suggestion Tool at www.WatchMojo.com/suggest!
Can you do this with video game characters
Indiana Jones!
+Mateus Andriolli what about garland green
Especially funny cause they don't edit out the f word like 15 seconds before
oh man. Han solo's intro was so cool, the way he shot the alien AFTER that alien shot and missed... so bad ass
I'm sorry (and SPOILER ALERT!),but no ..the puppet talking to Amanda in Saw should not count as Jigsaws big reveal /introduction, it should be when John Kramer reveals that he was the dead guy in the bathroon the whole time!
Yesssss I agree and to me that was an amazing twist definitely should've made the list
I think its like counting the card in Batman Begins as The Jokers introduction.
And the card was the introduction to the clown-killer!
Anthony Seyffer agreed
Blackbeard's introduction in PAN was pretty awesome.
Dammit. The ending of this video had such a Massive spoiler, for full Metal Jacket.
Ty bro
Bane deserved to be on this list, the plane scene was iconic
The Third Man anyone? The Greatest intro ever can't get an honorable mention??
Love the intro of Sam Gerard in The Fugitive. He steps out of his car, surveys the horrible train wreck and, in a bored drawl says "My my my my what a mess." Awesome.
"I see him kill 3 men in a bar with a pencil, with a fuckin' pencil"
It’s John Wick
Michael Keaton's Batman
A pretty solid list! I also love the character intros for Ferris Bueller, Juliet in the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet, Ron Burgundy in Anchorman, and V from V for Vendetta
Also Jack Sparrow and Erik's in Phantom of the Opera (ALW or any book adaption)

you missed the Third Man. the introduction to Harry. it is such an amazing experience to watch the sound the cinematography. the back story of what is believed to be a dead character. and then the astonishing score to accompany it. what were you thinking?
Where is Hugo Stiglitz?
Say auf wiedersehn to your Nazi balls..
+Marko Nikolic I second this..should go hand in hand with Donny Donowitz.
I think that the intros for all the Tropic Thunder characters were the funniest intros ever
No T-Rex ??
Godzilla's introduction (2014) was pretty cool to me.
Where the fuck is Lisbeth from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Henry Fonda's character in "Once upon a time in the West". It was the first villian of his career, so the scene was made to surprise the audience, nobody was expecting him to play such a ruthless character, everyone thought he would be the hero, as always :)
I was just watching hannibal haha
silva has one of the best introductions hands down, one of my favorite scenes of all time (and i wasn't even crazy about skyfall)
No Bill The Butcher from Gangs Of New York.
I definitely wanted to see him here
Hah, you forgot the best of the best ;) Captain Jack Sparrow and his drowning ship ;)
Indiana Jones? No?

They're not playing poker, they're playing baccarat.
HAN SHOT FIRST
+MrSchlubberhund I agree with this comment
MrSchlubberhund That he did.
Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,The Wolf in Into The Woods,Stanley Yelnats IV in Holes,George in George of the Jungle,Edward Cullen in Twilight,Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,Norman Stansfield in Leon: The Professional,Xerxes in 300 and The Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz.
sigh, not one single female character... just saying.
Tuco's introduction from The Good The Bad and The Ugly is hands-down the best entrance in cinema
Harry Lime in The Third Man? Possibly the most famous intro in cinematic history!
"I'm here to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative." - Nick Fury. I swear Goosebumps every. single. time.
This is one of the lists that has been the most interesting/fun.
Man I love the theme on taxi driver.
Great topic! Thanks MikeyP.
I applaud this list. It's perfect
