The movie does a good job of showing how people are brainwashed by the media, but then it repeats the same cliche's that were brainwashed into people for four years by fake news outlets like CNN. In the end it is just another version of CNN brainwashing.
I think they were trying to make it a light movie to make a serious point. It worked very well I think
For me the moral of the story was this: If you witness something that you think you should warn the humanity about, try to warn them. If you fail at it or they don't want to listen, just take care of yourself and your loved ones and protect & love them till the end. I agree completely.
Pretty good message to take away from the film. I'd extend that a little, myself, to suggest that the 'powers that be' are the least likely to actually listen and act on a serious problem, but the ones closest to you, the loved ones, but even extend that to the broader neighbourhood and community, are the ones that can actually care and also do something to help mitigate the worst results.
This will seem like a big jump, but if you look at what One Small Town communities are doing based on the principles of Contributionism, they are creating local prosperity and abundance for the people, by the people through cooperation, collaboration and co-ownership, while connecting best practices to other communities wanting to do the same. Each community that joins OST will see some level of success. Will it change the world? Maybe. But even if it doesn't, multiple communities will change for the better and that COULD lead to a snowball effect that rapidly changes the world, community by community and possibly, then, country by country.
Director: “What’s our budget?”
Netflix: “What budget?”

I just hear Christian Bale's rant when I read that, even tho it was in the trailer haha "Ohhhhhh, good for youuUUUuuuU!!"
I have zero faith in humanity when it comes to this magnitude of responsibility
I have no faith in capitalism and the capitalism defenders in power that are captured by money interests so they are the last to act seriously and radically to change the system so it works for everybody, just like the movie characters 'in power' didn't act quick enough.
But I have faith in caring, compassionate spirit of everyday people to recognize a problem, join together in solidarity around a cause and act together to build a better system that supports us all.
We need more of that, but we've seen it before many times. We need more One Small Town-like organizations, but at least there is one, and likely more to come.

The jokes are pretty low standard designed for people with very basic sense of humour. They spent more money on casting famous actors which they should spent more on writing better jokes!!!

I'm of the view we won't even see it coming, because we've cut so much funding to scanning the skies, the amount of warning we'll get will be about, umm, maybe 15 seconds, then big BOOM, everyone will be incinerated in the continent it hits, massive tsunamis if it hits the oceans, followed by a 24 hour global conflagration, and then dust cloud cover and ice age. That's it, the end, bye bye.

Just watched it. Though full of unreal settings and situations, it was a strangely great movie. When Yule gave the last prayer at the dinner table, I imagined how I'd pray if I were him. What came from my mouth was that I am grateful that I was born, and that though I was born with nothing I could live this life thanks to everybody's love and help. Always skeptical of my life, hopeless and purposeless, I was truly surprised figuring out how I feel about my life deep inside.

I loved this movie so much. Hit the nail on the head for every scenario presented if it happened in real life. It was exhilarating yet terrifying to watch. I agree. To me, there seems to be a growing awareness that the current system is broken, we need something new, we need system change and want to see a future of better sustainability, health and happiness. This IS possible, technically speaking, but requires a huge Zeitgeist Movement (cue: check out that brilliant trilogy, by the way, because a fourth one is on the way) to get a critical mass of citizens of Earth on the same page, advocating for a clear message and actionable demands to reach the revolution that re-invents our economy to end oppression.
Keep talking, keep learning, keep helping where you can. The future isn't written yet. It may not be trending in a great direction right now, but it is not sealed. I will say, suffering will increase, things will get worse before they get better, I'm sorry to say I do see that happening, but if we can slow down this destructive speeding train humanity is on because of the capitalist drivers, we can reduce the worst predictable effects and even change course towards a sustainable, healthy alternative society.

I was actually mind blown how any criticism of this movie is negative. It's hilarious. And it's the most accurate portrayal exactly how tf politicians work, what motivates them, why or why not they do what they do, and the population of the planet deciding what's factual from fiction through their own confirmation bias.
If it makes you uncomfortable, its supposed to. The critic review completely contradicting the viewer criticism is exactly what this movie gets right. People need to be told what to believe by the people they trust. Nature, on the other hand, has no prejudice. Its neither for us, nor against us, and will happen and how much conviction we have in our beliefs cannot and will not save us from ourselves.
This movie calls us all out. And if you hate the film for that reason, you're part of the cycle this movie accurately portrays.
I actually liked it even though it obviously used some stereotypes in places that I find on the whole to be dishonest media creations, but could look past that mainly because nobody really looks good in the film.
I think there's also a lot of interpretations people can have, since it's effectively a Cassandra Complex situation, and pretty much every political faction these days has their own Doomsday prophecies that nobody else takes seriously. Humans haven't changed much since ancient times and probably many more civilizations than we have record of came to some catastrophic end. I think we are predisposed to realizing life and civilization is fragile, and are always on the lookout for threats to it. The safer life is, the more we fear potential dangers. Maybe that's good because we then do what we can, and maybe it isn't because in the end just being with our friends and families in the time we have is all that matters.

Comedy, space, end of the world scenario, stacked cast, real time commentary. Man, this movie was made for me. Looking forward to it.
Horror movie disguised as a comedy. Interesting!
Edit: It's a joke. The potential reality of this is horrifying lol...
@@bradmapson6243 Yeah! One of my favorites. I know in both cases the general public was in denial , but this movie feels a bit more disturbing the way people are like chuckling zombies in the face of impeding death. Kinda gives me Truman Show vibes, or the black hole sun music video lol
@@bradmapson6243 It's in the list of my top 10 favourite movies . Hope this will be that good. The cast sure is .
its not, what the movie trying to portray is that.. in this day and age no one will take anyone seriously when there's something big going on and no one will believe you until it really happen.
Am I the only one who saw in the intro that it said the movie is based on true events that haven’t happen YET !!!!!
this cast omg
Jonas Gil was included to attract the Double D listers.
I bet 60% of the budget was for the casting omg
Adam McKay calls in his favors lol. He had a ton of cameos is The Big Short as well
see, THIS comment is why they picked the stupid cast. Adam McKay knows you will talk about the cast and not the fact that this movie is about the ACTUAL destruction of the planet due to climate change. But sure, HAHA, Netflix paid for a high-end cast.
Actors are out of jon due to corona so anything comes they take it
