    JY is a beast. Great entertainer. Him and Tommy Shaw in the same band is almost too good to be true. So much talent.

      And the longer they play the more fun they have. When they played I dont need no doctor it looked like bedlam on stage. The band had to have had a blast playing with them if for no other reason than the energy they kicked in.

    I have enjoyed the music of STYX for many years. They always have performed in top fashion and full energy. Always makes me smile whether I it's via a live performance, DVD or CD. This show with young people is a wonderful experience for them, the band and the fans!

    Paradise Theater Tour was my first Styx Show Denver Colorado mid summer July 1st 1981. I have recollection of some concerts from back in day and I have seen over 300 plus AND I definitely remember this concert it was GREAT! Come Sail Away was the last song and the lights, the smoke, the atmosphere was like no other! I long for those days when life was simple the music was awesome and all I had to worry about was where I was going to get money for the next big tour.

    I saw styx 3 days ago at Valdosta and they seemed so happy and just loving what they were doing. Tommy (not tiny) was interacting with the crowed so much and laughing and having a great time. And at the end James was signing autographes and Tommy was shaking peoples hands. Seems like they care about their fans to me

      Danny Whiting ~ You are right, they are happy... And have been since they fired DDY in 1999... I've watched Styx with and without DeYoung, one can see the difference in the band since Dennis's departure...
      Even in Styx's A&M year's JY, TS, CP, JP, & DDY only lasted 8-1/2 years together,
      (Dec/'75 - spring/'84). The current line up has been together now since 2003. If they were miserable, they wouldn't be still going 15 years, and counting... I wish people would just accept it... If you're a DeYoung fan, great, you can see him. If you enjoy today's line up, that's fine too... If you enjoy both, that's wonderful too... Just enjoy the music and let everyone move on... That's how I see it...

    • @diceytrust2768
      @diceytrust2768 6 років тому +1

      Danny Whiting ~ Most of the DDY crowd refuse to accept Lawrence... What they don't understand is, all the whining, lying, name calling, lawsuit's etc... that's done to Styx, or their fans, won't get the band to take DeYoung back... They are happy without DDY, because they can tour anywhere, anytime, anyplace, without DeYoung always telling them
      "Wait For Me"... Styx has plenty of fans who just want to see them tour, which they have, every year, since 1999. They have toured more in the last 19 years, then they did with Dennis since he joined the Panozzo brothers in 1962... That's no coincidence.

      If they cared about their Classic Styx fans who made them famous, they would allow one show with Dennis. Of course they sound great now, but Dennis started this whole train a rolling but was kicked out by his two friends who helped make them famous. I was watching a video yesterday where Tommy was at a book store with just his guitar and he asked Dennis to join him. The sounded good and looked happy. They shook hands and parted ways. Nine months later, he was thrown out of the band. One of the greatest mysteries of all time.

      Saw them in 1979 on my 21st birthday. They were excellent but Dennis came across as at least a bit pompous.
      This concert with CYO is fun and well done. I have the DVD of it and it also includes some background on how they put this together.

    I'm not going to comment which current or former member of Styx who's behaving bad or worse, but I want to correct some errors in the comments section (a bit late, I know):
    1. Tommy Shaw did not join Styx after John Curulewski's death. Tommy replaced JC in 1975 and JC died in 1988 from a brain aneurysm, just 37 years old.
    2. Dennis De Young did not leave Styx in 1996, but in 1999 - the same year the last (?) album featuring DDY, Brave New World, was released. Musical and personal differences aside, Dennis health problems with a chronic fatigue syndrome-like disorder and sensitivity to bright light and sound were also a factor.
    3. After Chuck Panozzo became a part-time member due to HIV/AIDS Glen Burtnick returned to the band in 1999. He was Tommy Shaw's replacement as guitarist/lead vocalist during Styx brief comeback 1990-91. He was Styx full-time bass player (and lead vocalist) 1999-2003 and was replaced by former The Babys and Bad English member Ricky Phillips on bass (plus backing vocals and occasional guitar). Both Chuck (part-time) and Ricky are members of Styx as of 2018.

      max slamer ~ As I scrolled down on the comment section and saw some of the lies others are saying about the band, I now understand why you said what you did...
      I have been following Styx for decades now, (been a fan since 1975) & everything you said was correct...
      Glad to see someone is putting the truth out there for a change... It's infuriating, the lies certain people continue to tell on the band's history... It's not as if there isn't any information to learn Styx's story, why people still insist on lying is beyond me...?

    Signing autographs and shaking hands doesn't mean anything. Terrell Owens shakes hands and signs autographs and he's one of the most egotistcal athletes the league has ever seen. Its called good publicity. You never know who's recording something and if you act an ass it'll be caught on tape and boom there goes your fan base.

  • @MrSilksoul
    @MrSilksoul 12 років тому +1

    Heres what doesn't make sense DDY did the whole orchestra deal first, he was always theatrical, midget man Tiny Shaw and JY had issues with it and booted him out of the band, but now they're doing exactly what DDY wanted to do and does. Seems a bit hypocritical. Tommys arrogance is what broke them up, he wanted to be leader. Tommy does not even care about the fans. The fans want DDY back with Styx and DDY is all for it, but Tiny Shaw refuses. I love Styx, but not in its current form.
