- The Karapiro section of the Waikato River Trail between Pokaiwhenua Bridge and Arapuni village has a nice range of track including easy going alongside the road for the first half and then once you reach the Little Waipa Reserve, it’s single track through the bush and alongside the river. Aside from the beautiful scenery, a highlight of this section is the 500 metres of boardwalk across the Huihuitaha Wetland.
When you’re in Arapuni, be sure to loop around to the the historic Arapuni Swingbridge and enjoy views of the nearly 100 year old Powerhouse below. Make the Rhubarb Cafe in Arapuni your turnaround point and enjoy fantastic food and hospitality.
This section is the Northern end of the Waikato River Trail which in its entirety follows New Zealand's longest river, the Waikato, for around 100km and through native bush, exotic forest, remote farmland, boardwalks, streams and suspension bridges.

It looks beautiful but is it hard though? Your title is left unanswered.
Hi Enchanted Kiwi, thanks for your comment. I was hoping I’d shown enough of the trail for people to judge it for themselves. “Hard” is relative to experience, fitness and expectations perhaps 😀
