I would think that it is more important to understand the team's defense schemes, coverages, plays, communications, what to do during group receiver formations and motions, etc, rather than study film for an extra week on one team that you face. Amari Cooper was able to play a few snaps as he is a wide receiver and not responsible for really anything but his own route, but a LINEBACKER who is responsible for the middle of the field needs to be in synch with the other defensive players. It could be worse if he was a secondary player, but still after only joining the team on Thursday I would be more worried about communications issues than his familiarity with Allen. But maybe I am wrong and defensive players can play well with only a couple days of getting to know their teammates.
And if he plays a few snaps and does not know all of his responsibilities in all the defensive schemes perhaps Allen can no huddle and audible into something different like a 5 wide receiver set and force him into a coverage that he doers not know what his responsibility is for that particular play. This could be interesting. Offense players can get on and off the field at will, but defense players can get stuck out there if the offence decides to use no huddle on them.
