    You’re doing a good job of actually showing the trail like Badbat did. But even more so. Very helpful and useful. And your tips. You did a great job getting over those rocks! This new exp will really help you teach the scouts climbing skills this week. Cool Nichols and Frizzle waved lol. Hope you’re ok from falling and your knees are ok. Yeh those processed foods can add pounds. Eat up on some good cooking at camp.😊❤

    Wow. I was dismayed by that little technical climb in New Jersey when we hit it. I was like "This is NOT a trail! This is climbing." It looks like the entire trail in the Whites is like that! As you say, it's a pile of rocks masquerading as a trail. I admire your tenacity in continuing on!

    These mountains are unbelievably hard. Just my opinion but I feel you need more real foods ie proteins, veggies, fruits ( even dehydrated ). You are very thin so it doesn’t take a lot to strip your body of needed proteins, vitamins, etc. ( yes, I sound like the grandmother I am). Wishing you some easier days ahead . CARPE DIEM

    Yup, you'll have some climbing & scrambling stories to tell at camp. Those brutal descents are killers on the knees. I really don't understand why hikers don't wear sturdy boots north of Hanover NH. Just remember, sugar is not a food group. It's great for quick energy, but you need simple carb and protein MEALS to sustain you.
    Lose too much weight, and your body starts burning muscle. Bulk up while at camp. Happy Trails!

    Me: Audible! (football term)... I'm calling an audible... where's the blue blaze at? No one told me I needed to pack a ladder.
    I think Nickels put on weight by all the town food! 😂 You need more calorie dense and healthy fats (I've heard some hikers add olive oil to their food).

    After seeing this area and how hard it looks and knowing that it gets harder ahead for even pretty experienced hikers, how is it that 4 - and 5 yr old kids have hiked through it? If they were carried through it somehow, then they really can't say they were thru hikers on the AT, in my opinion if they didnt actually do it on their own. Im sure kids might be able to crawl and slide, but that would take along time to get anywhere. I guess I question it because, and Im not comparing kids to dogs, but Leo has been hiking the trail without much help with Master Splinter and will very likely finish the trail, on his own and they dont give dogs certificates or numbers or a AT tag. But theres other organizations that do give dogs recognition for doing spectacular things, for obedience, hunting, dock diving, barn hunting, herding, visiting nursing homes, ect.. Just dont understand how they can give someone recognition for doing something they most likely needed a lot more help than someone that didnt need help. Dog or not, they should still get something for the work they put in and have certificates that can be added to pedigrees or other lists of things for the dogs achievements. Not just any dog could hike that trail, carrying their own pack and having great manners and being very obedient. Ok end of rant, sorry I just think any pet animal that finishes the trail should get something too if kids can.
    Keep on keeping on Stick, you're getting closer, one foot after the other❤ 🎉🎉🎉 I really enjoy the newish scenery and seeing how you manage the rocks.
    We're embracing the journey and yelling to the AT to BRING IT ON! ❤😂 Happy trails. Who cares about the clouds or rocks when we're together? Just sing a song and bring the cruisy paths and sunny weather. Happy trails to you until we meet again ❤ 🎶🎵🎶

    The southern AT is so much better maintained than the northern end. You have so many bogs, rivers, mud pits... with just some decayed bog boards or nothing at all. I realize it is all maintained by volunteers, but the southern end is better. You are brave to hike through it

    • @sticktheeagle
      @sticktheeagle 12 днів тому

      I’ve definitely found that to be true. Yes, it is all volunteers, but the volunteers in the south are very dedicated to their work.

    • @mink5
      @mink5 11 днів тому

      the southern end doesn't get the cold, deep snow, frost heaves that mess up a trail like NH/ME gets. Get your head around it and get into it; this is REAL mountain climbing, not a walk in the park. Furthermore, would YOU carry a gallon bucket of white paint for blazes, shovel, pick ax, etc for maintaining trails that Stick the Eagle is hiking and will be continuing to hike over the next 2 weeks? He's complaining WITHOUT carrying and using trail maintenance equipment. (Rightly so, these trails are tough!) Give credit to the trail maintainers for all that IS in place, wooden steps down a slick slab, iron rungs, water bars, rock steps, etc. Or better yet, stay down South.

    • @sticktheeagle
      @sticktheeagle 11 днів тому

      @@mink5 what is in place is definitely helpful. Plus, much of the bog board replacements and bridges are flown in via helicopter and can get super expensive. It’s not like you can carry all that wood into very remote areas.

    Sugar and candy doesn't keep your weight up. Make sure to get nutritionous food with the true things your body need like protein. The others might have gained weight because of eating the right food and they have grown muscle, which adds weight.
