So, funny that you mentioned the torque spec with the extension. Back in 1984, my high school shop teacher told us that. 45yrs I have never until NOW heard anyone say anything about it. Thank you for validating my 45yrs of torque wench logic.
Its so amazing how over time your garage has evolved and improved to what it is now. Your talent is finally getting matched up with your work area and tools... longtime follower, not too often commenter... but I really enjoy that you keep to your roots and do ‘garage’ style DIY still... please dont change your style... you rock!

i have 159k miles on my '14FXT - bone stock no problems. Never had vacuum leak issues with mine, but I did change out clamps on all the hoses years ago just in case - still holding strong! Still love my car
Subaru uses a Santoprene material for their Air Flow Tubes , Toyota uses EPDM rubber with thicker dimensions. Honda uses different material and thin out the tubes to save money , around 1.8 mm in the bellows, that often cracks
Weekend isn't complete without getting a Sarah N tuned Video upload....With the intro...."Hello people of the inter web".....and OCD mentioned at least once... Remember keep calm and maintain the cleanliness....😉
Sarah are you building a track day Gump? That would be something really unique. I don't see how you are able to get your hands into some of the places you work on. I always feel I'm sticking my hand in a vice. I'm glad you are no longer working in a garage oven. Great video Sarah always enjoy watching you work.
Its was a long wobble extension. There is almost zero chance to use it without supporting both ends of the torque wrench. That would change the torque getting to the fastener, thus her comment.
An extension of sufficient torsional rigidity will lose a negligible amount of torque between indicated and applied due to windup of the extension. So use the shortest stoutest extension you can.
Torque specs are fine with extensions unless by using one, you change the length of the torque wrench. This is why when using crow foot wrenches, you need to mount them 90 degrees to the wrench head.
Just found your channel and I love it! I am a female who loves to work on anything mechanical. You are a great power of example for any young women that might be interested in this stuff!
Sarah you make my day everytime I watch one of your videos you are so full of life and your so much fun to watch. Don't worry about the straight extension it changes nothing. And even if it did it would be so small it wouldn't matter. Looking forward to your next
You can use an extension on the torque wrench. As long as it stays co-axial with the bolt, the torque reading will be unaffected. And I am a former Space Shuttle engineer actually :)
Your torque is fine through an extension. The only time torque changes is if you use an offset attachment like a dog-bone and the angle changes in relation to the wrench head. Extensions don't change that angle, you're fine.
Good quality torque wrench doesn’t really lose any accuracy torquing with an extension as long as the fastener remains at a 90 degree angle with the head
Samsonite! back to the good ol' days... Also thank you for installing and reviewing the steering dampener, if it makes you grin, my Forester also needs one.
Perrin makes high-quality parts and I wish they would consider making a turbo kit. They did a build for a Lotus Elise, fabricating the turbo manifold, but didn't pursue going further and making a kit. Sad times we live in. Anywho, awesome video. Keep'm coming.
Anytime you can eliminate potential fail points it’s always a good thing! 👍🏻 With the amount of work you put in, you’ve inspired me to do my own. I’m grateful because I found more than a few things other people have skimped on throughout the years the car was taken for service. I’ve rectified a lot of issues. I’m hoping to get the car back on the road by the end of the month! 👏🏻 Can’t wait to see some of the goodies you got for the gump! 👏🏻🎉
Subaru Regional should use Gump for training because it is so clean! Also an extension does not change torque if perpendicular although the universal can.
I just bought a 2014 wrx with cobb suspension and cobb cold air intake and a cobb exhaust it's a fun little car But now I'm getting a P0021 code And it's my first subaru
I’ve found it easier to remove those plastic little satan clips by first spraying them with silicon and then using plastic door card removal tools to get the clips out. I don’t have sand issues b/c I don’t live in AZ but it might help prevent breaking a few.
At around 3:35 of the video, that tire wear on the outside -- not sure if you are just leaning into your corners hard or if that's a camber issue but you may want to check all 4s to see if you have that same wear.
My favorite car of yours is Mr. Dos but a close second is Gump, so yay! Why don't you like worm gear hose clamps? Heh, heh, your new tube is stiffer. That's what he said. I'd rather see you looking pale than with melanoma so yeah, there's that. You should bring cleaning supplies with you every time you get under a car. You KNOW you are going to want to clean something. Nice, moderate mods that if it makes driving Gump better for you then that's all that matters. Thanks for another video, Sarah. Stay safe.
Hello Sarah, thought of you yesterday and this morning. My OCD kicked in yesterday. All I was going to do, was rotate my tires and clean inner half of the wheels. Well, got carried away trying to clean road grime off of the suspension and inner wheel well plastic. Spent 2 hours polishing lug nuts. What's wrong with me? The car is not a garage queen, but it shouldn't have been as dirty as it was.
I was under my daughter's car today for transmission fluid service. I took the plastic covers off and looked there and all of sudden I thought, this is not going to pass the Sara inspection, no sir. Got the cleaners and pressure washer and I actually cleaned under the car. LOL.
Hello... Sarah of the Garage. 👍🏻 Good to see Garage Sarah back, since I prefer the mechanical videos. I started to feel like we were seeing more of Abandoned Warehouse Sarah lately. 😉 The OCD "PSA" was friggin funny! I also suffer from the same disorder, it sucks sometimes! 🤣
@@SarahnTuned Yeah, waiting on parts sucks...Especially in 2020 with all this crap going on, that allowed the manufacturing companies to get backed up, and the shipping companies to be borderline useless...As if they needed another excuse to slack off. 🙄 But, It's all good Sarah. 👍🏻 I don't mind the reviews, as a matter of fact, I typically watch them. I just prefer the mechanical videos a little more, since I like working on my trucks, and always have built my own vehicles. But that's all just personal preference. I'll still be around watching all your videos, don't worry. 😉
Sarah, your cleaning obsession will lead you to build a vehicle that will be based around the dyson vacuum cleaners a 4wd subaflu a built in car wash with lots of grunt, and my personal penchant for a decent sound system. Cheers
Using an extension will still torque the bolt to the inputted amount (there will just be more deflection in the extension). Using that angle adapter will alter the input torque though 😜
Haha that look of satisfaction, at the sound of no leaks. Sarah I'll never be sorry I teased you about your OCD cause you have turned it into funny trade mark space tech clean. My old truck is sooo jelouse.
Ha, my brother in law used to repair the shuttle engines. Sometimes I'd get a tour. They would tie a string to tools so they didn't get dropped or left behind. Bad news to leave tools loose in a flying space craft. Or as my sister used to say, you don't want to be responsible for damaging a 4 billion dollar national asset.
Saw those parts on insta and was looking forward to this. It seemed to go nice and easy with no hiccups. Those thing-a-ma-bobs are aka barb by barb fittings
I’m that used to you cleaning thoroughly that I’m surprised you even mention it , it’s one of your best traits as it’s so much better working on a clean bottom Great to see Gump getting stuff for you 🙏🏴
Sarah's sunny personality and tech detail make me feel better even if my day wasn't stellar.
trooo, I want her to be my neighbour :)

Good work.
Tip for cutting smaller diameter hoses in situ, with restricted access, get a cheap cigar cutter. It gives a nice even square cut.

See, if you take it off road, then you get the joy of cleaning it every time and boy is that satisfying.
Don't worry about the torque. An extension won't change the torque. Only if you use something offset, like a crowfoot wrench will it change.
