Peter, thanks for telling us in-depth so soon about the new E-M5 III. - I’m really looking forward to a battle with the E-M1 II. To be honest I don’t see the point of this new model. Okay, it has most of the features of the E-M1 but also costs almost the same. It does not have dual cards and poor battery life. While you praise that it is small and light, you use a grip to make it actually usable. Something you did not touch on in detail is the auto-focus hardware. Does it have phase- and contrast-detection like the E-M1? Otherwise it is just not going to be good/fast enough for wildlife and low light. - I really struggle to see why I should get that camera over an E-M1 II.
After watching Robin Wong’s video I can answer my own question. Wow, the auto focus is really the same now with phase detection. I don’t mind the size of my E-M1 Mark I But will need to compare it to the new E-M5 III once it makes it to the shops.

Thanks, Peter! This will be my next camera because you know I like to vlog. Like you, I was hoping for a new processor. Looking forward to your videos on this camera.
It is the best vlogging camera on the market right now. I tested it with the old 12mm f2.0 lens and the AF worked perfectly. It is also very light and easy to hold. IBIS is great as Olympus tends to have.

First review I'm seeing on the E-M5 MkIII! I want to know if it's a worthy upgrade from my MkII. I LOVE my MkII, but the AF-C in video really lacks. Hopefully the MkIII makes up for that in a huge way!
I hope they've cured the EVF "green spot" problem that really messes up the Mk.II, if you happen to need a high dioptre setting, see some sunlight and have bad luck.
Since the Mark III has an OLED EVF, it will absolutely not suffer from this (it was a vulnerability specific to the Epson Super Ultimicron LCD EVF panel in the Mark II). That Epson EVF panel was used also in the E-M1 original (same potential issue) and the E-M1 Mark II, but I have never come across a report of the problem in the latter model, so I think they must have added a "hot filter" to the EVF to prevent it from happening.
Thank you. Your review is more informative than Japanese camera media(web or magazine). It is very useful for purchase consideration. By the way, Helsinki seems to be getting cold, so please take good care of yourself.
Great video Peter, thank you very much! As Joe Ellis put it in his video, this new E-M 5 MKIII is a baby E-M 1 MKII. You seem to agree. The selling arguments of the two will be basically size and weight for the 5MKIII and dual battery and battery life for the 1MKII, given that sensor, AF and face detection capacity, and wheather sealing are present in both. Thus, if you want to upgrade from a EM5 MK II, choosing between EM5 MKIII and EM1 MKII will be basically a question of ergonomic .
@@ForsgardPeter EM5 MKIII has full HD 120 fps for better slow motion (but not with autofocus unfortunately), it can be charged through usb (this is huge for vlogging), smaller and lighter for vlogging on a stick (grip can be removed) but no ear jack to adjust the sound. It seems the audio pre-amp is better on the em5 than em1 markII. For vlog, EM5 mark III better overall.
Great small camera. I personally think that the lack of USB-C port is a huge, huge, huge mistake. With USB-C the charging can be way faster and also it can be used for more functions, for example headphone jack that is missing, connecting external SSD to download images, exporting video signal etc.
@@ForsgardPeter yes, and it's lacking all the advantages of USB-C, that I mentioned and it's not so solid, if they're used a lot they can brake also or at least stop working.
On Battery - I own OM-D M10 (Mark 1), and new M5 Mark III uses same battery. For me it means good path to get pro equipment, also because it have Phase Autofocus, which was available only for M1 models. You can use Irfanview with plugins to read RAW (ORF) files. Although its not a pro solution, i might recommend it for non-pro or fast post-processing. I use it for conversion to JPEG and cropping.
You answered a few questions I had for Red35 that you covered. For me it's a nice upgrade, phase detection, using DSLR glass (I have a couple I'd like to use again) flippy screen, pro capture, use my E-M10 battery and better video capable.
Hi, Peter. Can you check if the Custom Custom Settings (C1,C2,C3) can be programmed to the buttons in the "Button" menu? I went to the launch event today but forgot to check that. I pre-ordered mine and November 21st can't come soon enough!
Shoot... got to save for one of these E-M5 MK IIIs... already have a E-M10 III but it would be great to have a weather resistant body. Only thing I'd add is one WR lens, preferably the 12-40 2.8 zoom as I already have a decent stash of m4/3 lenses (5 Oly + 1 Tamron superzoom) :).
Hello Peter, I rather take the Magnesium body over 55g savings in the plastic. Too bad you did not put out any images showing dynamic range ??? I agree with you on the USB-C port and the small battery. It make no sense if we have to drag another battery(s) , ... here goes the 55g weight benefit ??? I little disappointment on my side, Olympus again recycle the old sensor , I was expecting more like 30 Mpx ??? It will be hard to go against the Sony a6500 with IBIS and I think also lighter and cheaper body too here in USA ????
Impressive. Thanks for this first look :-) I have some questions and ideas for your future videos (have to keep you busy ;-)): 1) The flash, could you test it out in a future video? It would be nice to see how useful it is. 2) The weather sealing made me wonder, is there a compact lens that is weather sealed? 3) Is the 14-145mm ok? How compact is it on this body? I wonder about this lens because the pro lenses are more expensive and usually bigger.
Right now Olympus does not have a very compact lens that is weather sealed. The 14-150mm is not very big, but I have not tested that lesn so I cannot say for sure.
Thank you for your thoughts. An oversight on your video at around 11 minutes? Top right corner says "Filmed with OM-D E-M15 MKIII". Just pointing it out.... How much bigger is the EM1 MkIII to this camera? It seems to me this camera is quite small too - though not as light in weight.
Thank you for the great Video's . Could you tell me in your opinion what are the best settings for Birds in flight using the 40-150 with the 2x times converter I had no problems with my Fuji outfit but having changed to 4/3 I am not having much luck with sharp images I have em5 mk3 and em1 mk2
Hey, does anyone know if the preamps on the em5 mkiii are any good? That was a huge issue with my em5 mkii. Super hissy preamps. I always had to use an external recorder (not so compared to the G85 which had great preamps , but terrible autofocus) I really don't mind the plastic, especially with the better image quality and autofocus upgrade. I'd pull the trigger if someone can vouch for the audio.
Hi, The different battery for me is a deal breaker. I have an E-M5MK1 and a MKII with 3 batteries. I am not going to buy a new battery & charger and cart that around as well.
Hello. Now i have my E-M5 Mark III more than a month. In general its a great camera, but it seems i might have found one small issue. I have been using it with Olympus flash FL-600R. Previously with my M10, photos had really nice balance in flash photography, M5 Mark III had slightly overexposed shots. Also people started to complain that the flash is too strong, and it hurts their eyes. I looked into EXIF data of older and newer photos and found out that M10 recorded "flash fired, auto", while M5 Mark III always recorded "flash fired, compulsory flash mode". This does not make sense. On FL-600R i use either "Auto" or "TTL Auto" mode, while camera and the flash should be communicating. That is partially true, because camera and flash definitely exchange information about current focal lenght of 12-40mm PRO lens, but apparently flash goes off on full GN.
@@ForsgardPeter I got my flash basics years ago, but i started to use FL-600R regularly only about 3 months ago. I expected that the flash will behave exactly same om M5 Mark III as it did on M10. Even when all the settings were same for two photo sessions, in one case i had perfect exposure, in other slight overexposure which needed post processing. At this point i dont know if its a technical issue in M5 Mark III firmware, simply differences between M10 and M5 Mark III or I set something wrong.
@@ForsgardPeter Ok I guess I solved the issue i thought was overexposition with flash. I did small photosession yesterday and took few photos with my old M10 body and new M5 Mark III. In both cases, settings for cameras and the flash were identical, same zoom, same distance from the object. Old M10 has older 16MPix sensor, which has native ISO range 200-1600. M5 mark III has 20MPix sensor which has native range 200-6400. The difference in ISO proven to be the key to the saturation difference. According to EXIF M10 had to use "Gain Control: Low gain up", which is a method of increasing ISO or sensitivity. The side effect is, that image is looking bit more yellow, amber and then orange-red if the scene is really dark. M5 Mark III did not needed any "Gain control". So what looks better for M10 photos, is actually a side effect of sensor compensating low light situation, while M5 Mark III is perfectly fine with the light, but not just that - apparently i have to close Aperture/speed up shutter by 2-4 stops for the same scenario, depending how much was older 16mpix sensor compensating the underexposure. This demonstrates one thing - Megapixels are not everything. Improved ISO range of the newer sensor is indeed an important feature.
good day Peter Question, I have the Oly OMD EM1 Mark 3 and the E-M5 MK lll. Is the image quality of these camera's so much the same that I could use the E-M5 for my travel photography and not miss anything important ? I love the EM 1Mark 3 but the E-M5 is small and light . Ken undecided in Napa Ca.
The EM5s always s reminded me of the OM1 and OM2 and the EM10 mark ii reminds me so much of the lovely little cheap OM10, with its wider "pentaprism" top.
Can you make a video where you compare the M5 mkII vs. M5 mkIII ? And can you also make a video where you discuss if the M5 mkII is out of date? Or is it still worth buying?
15:00 This new update essentially brings the EM5 up to par with the current offerings by Olympus. If any new sensor/processing technology is introduced, it makes sense that its debut would be reserved for the flagship EM1 (Mark 3?). :) As it stands, come November...EM10, EM1 and now EM5 lines can be considered as fully mature, until the next generation of Olympus sensor/processor technology is released. IMHO
I've been looking at a Fujifilm X100V. Trying to get one in UK is impossible just now. The X100V has a big following and seems to be very popular for travel and many have commented on its size and weight. I compared the X100V with my Olympus M1 Mk III and then thought how the M5 Mk III would compare. It is actually smaller and lighter than the X100V, is weather sealed and can take other lenses AND has IBIS. Given that I already have several MZuiko lenses, it would seem sensible to go for the M5. It seems the major problem with the M5 is battery life but otherwise I'm thinking that the M5 makes better sense for me. Any thoughts?
I tested the Fuji X100V and I liked it. The biggest downside was the weather sealing out of the box. The body is weather-sealed, but the built-in lens is not. You need to buy an extra kit for sealing that lens too. The lack of IBIS in Fuji X100V would be a deal-breaker for me.
Thanks for this video Peter. I alredy saw Robin`s video and Gordon`s from Cameralabs. I can say, that I am pretty much getting this camera around Christmas!
Overall m5 mark2 is better camera per EUR, micro USB is like 2000's, do people even have these wires somewhere? and no audio jack on battery grip or on body is also way to fishy decision to differ omd series. This camera should be out 2 years ago with such specification. No wonder smartphones are taking over. Check if it can be connected with Bluetooth headphones.
Hi Peter Great video i really enjoy your work, I love watching your videos on the Olympus camras . Since watching your very helpful information I've bought a OMD EM5 Mark 2 great camera Many thanks keep up the great work Kind regards Stephen Leach
Thank you so much for this this looooong awaited video Peter:) I agree with almost everything you said. However, I really have my questions at the plastic body. Really love the metal body of the MKII. It makes it feel so PRO and heavy duty, but maybe that is just a compromise we have to learn to live with. Further I also cannot understand the decisions made in regards to batterylife, This really could be better. I mean, it's even less than MKII.... And still no headphonejack?? But I wonder, does the extra grip have it though like on the MKII so it's possible to add this feature yourself if you get the grip? No handheld HIGH RES is a real bummer for me. I'm not sure it's worth it to make the upgrade from the MKII for me. My quick conclusion is this: MKIII vs MKII: CONS 1. Plastic body 2. Less batterylife 3. Different battery type (really bad if upgrading from MKII) 4. Possibly the placement of some dials, but this must be experienced personally PROS 1. Better processor and AF 2. Slightly more Megapixels 3. USB charge (powerbank) 4. Bluetooth Basically you just change the metal body and some batterylife in for a couple of Megapixels, better processor and AF. I'm not convinced to spend that money for the upgrade. In addition I would have to buy alle new batteries. Have 5 of them now. If I didn't have the MKII I would probably buy the MKIII but when one already has the MKII....hmmmmmmm They obviously did not have MKII owners in their marketplan on this one.
The grip does not have the headphone jack. According to Olympus it is not likely that there will be one, but we will see. I agree on the battery life, but the USB charging helps a lot. Remember that the body has the same weather sealing as the E-M1 MKII, so the body is veery well made.
Interesting camera. I found the predecessor not bad, but then I had decided for the E-M1 (1), which I still own. But why is the new E-M5 MKIII only using the small BLS-50 batteries? For me the biggest shortcoming of my E-M1 was and is, for example, in my view, the relatively modest battery capacity of the BLN-1. I do not like having to change batteries when going for a walk. Mostly the battery gets to its knees just when a nice motive calls. The reason for small batteries, of course, is based in the desire for the lowest possible weight and a handy camera to construct the housing as small as possible. And a small case means just a small battery. The fact that the weight of the new M5-III is so low, on the one hand, of course, pleasing. But a few grams more would have hurt no one, if for a more powerful battery would be used. The BLN-1 is already tight. The BLS-50 is even smaller. Sure, the battery can be changed quickly. But you have to buy a whole handful of batteries, and of course carry them along. By changing I have on the one hand a certain loss of comfort, and in addition the weight saved at the camera in the form of additional batteries in the bag. At analog times you had no power problem, but had to insert a new film in a 36er movie all fart long. Today you have space for thousands of photos, but all fart long battery change. And if you own the E-M1 and the E-M5 III, you have 2 battery systems in the house. So this strategy does not shine on me completely.
From what I can gather the reason for the smaller battery is that they have made the camera more power-efficient. The Steve Huff hands-on review I believe he said he used it all day without having to change the battery but he also explains how he was using it here is the link in case you want to watch it. ua-cam.com/video/vi1bYdE-pv4/v-deo.html
@@ForsgardPeter I live just a few miles from Meredith in Gilmanton. A small town filled with history. Come back and visit sometime! I enjoy your channel, thank you.
Hi Peter and thanks for another great review. I'll wait to see your review once you've had it foe a bit longer and maybe a shootout vs the older mkii. Also, is this a new grip? Or the same as the hld-8? Cheers.
Is it all plastic? Meaning the body, the silver color top part. P.s. all of the photos you showed looked like the colors were a bit weak. None seemed to pop. Can you comment on that? One last question, does it come with a flash unit?
The images are almost straight out camera raw-files and exposured to the right. Lightroom does not support the raw-files yet, so I used the Olympus Workspace to convert the files. I did not have the flash unit in my sample box, but the commercial version has the FL‑LM3 flash included.
Cool! Any feedback on using Zuiko Pro lenses with this EM5iii? Balance issues or performance irritations with heavier bigger lens versus the EM1ii form factor?
Thank you Peter! Still not an Olympus (Digital -- love their 35mm!) shooter yet (use Panasonic M43) -- but I think that maybe I have the OM-D line up figured out -- correct me if I am wrong! EM-1 = top of the line, EM-5 = middle of the line, and EM-10 = the "budget" end of the EM line. Is that right?????
@@ForsgardPeter -- man, just need to find more money somewhere and *expand* my M43 photo and video work into Olympus territory (there are a few lenses that I would like to use also)!!!
@@vladimirkarphotography The main difference - battery on E-M5-III has too small capacity for E-M1-II capabilities. Trying to use E-M5-III in professional way: C-AF, Exposure HDR/Bracketing will drain the battery very fast.
Hi Peter, Interesting review 👍🏻One might say it’s an elder camera because of the parts/ specs of the om-d e-m1 ii? I have my doubts - but I would love to own an om-d. iI
Hi Peter! First of all, thanks for your videos and review. Really useful!!! I would like to make you a couple of questions: - Have you tried the 12-100 mm f 4.0 on the E-M5 MKIII? Does it fit OK (without the grip) or is it too "big" for the camera? - Second question with reference to the Silver Camera you have tried. I know some days is not enough to find out the durability, but my experience with some silver lens (like 45 mm 1.8) is that it is ver easy-scratching. Do you think it is going to happen the same to the camera? Thanks in advance for your answer!! Kind regards from Spain!! Luis
The 12-100mm is a bit big, but when holding it properly it is ok, when making photos. I have not tested how easily it will get scratches, but the body is well made.
Great review! Interesting to know about the extended eyepoint - I wish manufacturers would include that parameter in their specifications! Have you (or Robin) any old 4/3rds lenses you can test with this body? I have the original E-M1 which I keep specifically for using with the older glass and my thought is that the provision of PDAF on the E-M5 MkIII will also drive the older lenses...
Do you have the total weight and dimensions with the attached grip? I'm a 5mk2 user and looking for a second body. Will need to choose between the 5mk3 and the 1mk2. Thanks!
The best way to transfer image to a computer is to use either a memory card reader or connect your camera with the USB cabel that came with the camera.
Peter -- don't know if you follow Camera Conspiracies on UA-cam -- but he just posted a video about the OM-D E-M5 MKIII -- which you might find interesting (and funny). Cheers!
I own E-M5 MKII. I really like that camera because of photography part. But I am more video guy, I don't make vlogs, only travel videos and some other video stuff. What I really missed in mark 2 is 4k option. Now it can be found in mark3. But what about fps in 4k? 24/30/60? Still in doubt - which is better for videos - mark3, Panasonic GH5 or BMPC4k? What are your thoughts Peter?
It all depends what you are making videos of? GH5 have better video features, but are those features something that you really need? E-M5 MKIII has UHD with 24p, 25p and 30p. 102Mbps.
If you focus on video side with 4/3 camera then panasonic is much better because the bitrate in olympus camera is variable bitrate, in reality it is much lower, about 1/3, of the stated specification they give you. With such low bitrate the video in olympus is so much worse than panasonic, sony, fuji and marginally better than canon. This reason alone prevent me buying any olympus camera nowaday.
Love the 'mise en abyme' at the start. Is that the official grip or is it after market ? I see no electrical connection on the sole, this is worrying if you can't plug a second battery in a booster underneath.
@@ForsgardPeter : Now that's a real bummer. The e-m10 battery is tiny, and if you can't have two on the camera, the autonomy will be dreadful. Stupid move from Olympus here. Unless you only had a passive model and there's a different one that can carry a battery, as there was an ECG-2 and an HLD-8G for the mk II.
Love your videos and I've learned a lot from you. When you say it is made out of "plastic" my mind instantly thinks of cheap and easily-broken toys. I'm not a plastics expert but I wonder if it might sound better if you said something like "made from polycarbonate" or whatever the thing is actually made from. It might help me and others move away from those broken toy days of our past :)

well i keep on asking myself if weather sealing means that the cam cam withstand heat above 45 c. once the e620 stoped completely when it hit 48 but the e5 never give me this problem.
@@ForsgardPeter I think my question wasn't clear 😔 My intention was to determine whether the Bluetooth facility would allow GPS data from a GPS enabled device e.g. mobile phone or watch, to be collected AT THE TIME the photo was being taken - at least periodically when the camera was on. This would mean that accurate GPS data could be assigned to photos.
I'm going to buy this camera as I only shoot music videos, interviews and vlogs and the auto focus is what I need as I currently use a Panasonic G80 and auto focus is not good.. Great small camera. I personally think that the lack of USB-C port is a huge, huge, huge mistake. With USB-C the charging can be way faster and also it can be used for more functions, for example headphone jack that is missing, connecting external SSD to download images, exporting video signal etc.
The USB-port is only for charging and it can be charged with any power bank, phone charger and from cars USB ports etc.
@@ForsgardPeter yes, and it's lacking all the advantages of USB-C, that I mentioned and it's not so solid, if they're used a lot they can brake also or at least stop working.
@@ForsgardPeter ONLY for charging? What about downloading pictures to computer?
Thank you for this infomative video.
You are right, the battery issue has some advantages too. IrfanView is a good option.
You answered a few questions I had for Red35 that you covered. For me it's a nice upgrade, phase detection, using DSLR glass (I have a couple I'd like to use again) flippy screen, pro capture, use my E-M10 battery and better video capable.
What about tethering, only the OM-D E-M5 Mark II is listed at the Olympus Capture page?
I purposely purchased this camera because it used the same batteries as my E-PL5. Day one I had 3 batteries to rotate through.
Hi, Peter. Can you check if the Custom Custom Settings (C1,C2,C3) can be programmed to the buttons in the "Button" menu? I went to the launch event today but forgot to check that. I pre-ordered mine and November 21st can't come soon enough!
Unfortunately, you cannot. Congrats for the new camera!
@@ForsgardPeter Bummer. Thanks!
My pleasure. It is a bummer, it would have made the C2 and C3 more accessable.
Shoot... got to save for one of these E-M5 MK IIIs... already have a E-M10 III but it would be great to have a weather resistant body. Only thing I'd add is one WR lens, preferably the 12-40 2.8 zoom as I already have a decent stash of m4/3 lenses (5 Oly + 1 Tamron superzoom) :).
Thanks Peter a very good review...... I want one.
Thank you.
Thankss 🎉🤜🤛
Impressive. Thanks for this first look :-)
I have some questions and ideas for your future videos (have to keep you busy ;-)):
1) The flash, could you test it out in a future video?
It is a bit bigger. The design is different. E-M1 MKIII has a grip and E-M5 MKIII does not.
@@ForsgardPeter Thank you.

From the original E-M5 it is a quite big upgrade.

Nice walk through, I still think my take now is fine a great deal on mkII invest in glass as I really want em-1 but there are interesting things here
Hey, does anyone know if the preamps on the em5 mkiii are any good? That was a huge issue with my em5 mkii. Super hissy preamps. I always had to use an external recorder (not so compared to the G85 which had great preamps , but terrible autofocus)
I really don't mind the plastic, especially with the better image quality and autofocus upgrade. I'd pull the trigger if someone can vouch for the audio.
You will get the best quality audio, if you use an external recorder. LS-4 is a good option.
Hi, The different battery for me is a deal breaker. I have an E-M5MK1 and a MKII with 3 batteries. I am not going to buy a new battery & charger and cart that around as well.
Apparently Wasabi Power batteries are really good and give more shots/filming time.
www.wasabipower.com/search?q=bls-5
Thanks for the great videos; but what's with the not-square hood in the first minutes of the film? Was it broken?
I need to look into this. Maybe I will make a video about flash photography.
Ets rapit, vaquer!
.....
You are fast, cowboy!
Great video Peter! You should have taken off the extrernal grip though when filming. Or just say it's attached in the beginning :)
True, I just have had it on for the whole week I had a chance to test it.
good day Peter
Question, I have the Oly OMD EM1 Mark 3 and the E-M5 MK lll.
Is the image quality of these camera's so much the same that I
could use the E-M5 for my travel photography and not miss
anything important ? I love the EM 1Mark 3 but the E-M5 is small and light .
Ken
undecided in Napa Ca.
The EM5s always s reminded me of the OM1 and OM2 and the EM10 mark ii reminds me so much of the lovely little cheap OM10, with its wider "pentaprism" top.
Yes, absolutely you can. Thats what I do.
Specs from dpreview state a Magnesium alloy body, not plastic. I suspect that's only the interior chassis frame, with a plastic outer skin.
Could be so, they also say composite and metal.
Can you make a video where you compare the M5 mkII vs. M5 mkIII ?
And can you also make a video where you discuss if the M5 mkII is out of date? Or is it still worth buying?
Good idea and yes I will make one about that.
IMHO
I hope you are right. m4/3 system needs a new sensor and hope it will be in the near future.
Peter, dpreview says the body is magnesium alloy. Is it plastic or magnesium alloy?
It is some kinda composite material. Plastic is a bit wrong word. It is durable and I have used it with no problem.
Nice Xmas gift for yourself!
Wow, that video footage was great from E-M5iii.
It makes nice quality video footage.
The bluetooth connectivity to headphones would be great. I do not think it is possible, but worth a try.
cocoa milk - I couldn't agree more, apart from the 20MP sensor and PDAF its a massive downgrade
It’s basically a E-M10 Mark IV .... or this should have been even the E-M10 Mark III. It’s not a M5 in my opinion....
Hi Peter
Great video i really enjoy your work, I love watching your videos on the Olympus camras . Since watching your very helpful information I've bought a OMD EM5 Mark 2 great camera
Many thanks keep up the great work

Thank you.
where did you purchase that rectangle lens hood for the 45mm 1.8?
It is LH-48 and it is meant for 12mm f2.0 lens.
My quick conclusion is this:
MKIII vs MKII:
CONS
1. Plastic body
2. Less batterylife
3. Different battery type (really bad if upgrading from MKII)
4. Possibly the placement of some dials, but this must be experienced personally
PROS
1. Better processor and AF
2. Slightly more Megapixels
3. USB charge (powerbank)
4. Bluetooth
Basically you just change the metal body and some batterylife in for a couple of Megapixels, better processor and AF.
Remember that the body has the same weather sealing as the E-M1 MKII, so the body is veery well made.
after much use, how do you judge the plastic body instead of magnesium?
do you feel weaker?
weaker for tripods and optics?
For me it does not matter. The camera has work very well.
Thanks for review. Is Auto-ISO issue in video is real issue as in Camera Conspiracies review?
I would not use AutoISO in video. The difference in noise does not look that good in video. In stills it is ok, but not video.
Hi, can the camera be totally silent ?.
Thanks
Thanks for the link. I will watch that later today.

It is a new grip. Thanks.
Peter Forsgård Thank you, Peter. 👍 Mark
Cool! Any feedback on using Zuiko Pro lenses with this EM5iii? Balance issues or performance irritations with heavier bigger lens versus the EM1ii form factor?
I will cover that next Tuesday. I an comparing the E-M5 MKIII to E-M1 MKII.
Robin Wong seems enthusiastic initially with EM5iii & 300mm but an added grip may help. Exciting! 🙂
It can work, I have not tested yet the new one with the pro-lenses, but as I said I will do it in my next video.
Yes you are right. But this E-M5 MKIII comes very close to the E-1 MKII on features.

Hi Peter!
First of all, thanks for your videos and review. Really useful!!!
I would like to make you a couple of questions:
- Have you tried the 12-100 mm f 4.0 on the E-M5 MKIII? Does it fit OK (without the grip) or is it too "big" for the camera?
- Second question with reference to the Silver Camera you have tried. I know some days is not enough to find out the durability, but my experience with some silver lens (like 45 mm 1.8) is that it is ver easy-scratching. Do you think it is going to happen the same to the camera?
Thanks in advance for your answer!!
Kind regards from Spain!!
Luis
The 12-100mm is a bit big, but when holding it properly it is ok, when making photos.
I have not tested how easily it will get scratches, but the body is well made.
Now we wait for EM1 MIII
Curious when/if that'll come out. I know the EM1X is a different product, but I think it was enough to push a MKIII to the right...
@@dionhouston Rumors say that Olympus is working on a 26mp camera that can also shoot in 6K video
That would be interesting.
I did not try older lenses on this one, but no reason why those would not work on this one too.
Do you have the total weight and dimensions with the attached grip? I'm a 5mk2 user and looking for a second body. Will need to choose between the 5mk3 and the 1mk2. Thanks!
I will get back on this one.
For the headphone jack problem, can the built-in Bluetooth connects to an wireless BT headphone for monitoring the recorded sound?
I have not tried, but I will test that.
Kiitos Peter! Laittoi miettimään mikä on seuraava askel EM-5 Mark II:sta.
Tämä uutuus on kyllä vaihtoehto. Mitä pääasiassa kuvaat?
Pääasiassa still-kuvia luonnosta ja kaupungin vilskeestä. Videoo en juuri laisinkaan.
Another good review. Just wondering what the EM1 MKIII will have as it would need to be better than E-M5 MKIII.
That remains to be seen.
Does the camera allow for a vertical grip and battery add on like it previous models?
At the moment there is no vertical grip available for the E-M5 MKIII.
As I have heard, the EM5 III is been built from c a r b o n. that´s agreat difference to plastic!!!
I am frustrated there does not seem to be a wireless or bluetooth transfer to desktop option- I have no space for photos or photoshop on my phone
The best way to transfer image to a computer is to use either a memory card reader or connect your camera with the USB cabel that came with the camera.
Thanks for the review. This camera is perfect for me, as a street photographer.
Do you know if it will be available in black?
Yes, it will available also in black. The color cameras should be! ;)
Peter -- don't know if you follow Camera Conspiracies on UA-cam -- but he just posted a video about the OM-D E-M5 MKIII -- which you might find interesting (and funny). Cheers!
I have watched videos from that channel, but not yet the one about the E-M5 MKIII. Thanks for pointing that video out, I will.
That's quick. I believe the press conference starts now. Can I follow it live somewhere?
I do not know. I am not there.
Can you put the Custome mode 2 on, for example, the exposure comp button?
Unfortunately, no.
I would like to know if you can assign on/off to the AEL/AFL on right side of em5 mark iii? Thank you
The Leveler can be assinged to be the power button, but not the AEL/AFL botton.

It does not have a GPS unit build in, you need to use OI.Track for that.
@@ForsgardPeter I think my question wasn't clear 😔
My intention was to determine whether the Bluetooth facility would allow GPS data from a GPS enabled device e.g. mobile phone or watch, to be collected AT THE TIME the photo was being taken - at least periodically when the camera was on.
This would mean that accurate GPS data could be assigned to photos.
