Thanks for sharing this! we just got a new pistachio tree for our food forest so it’s interesting to see how you harvest yours! Sending love and blessings!
Thankyou for this. If you don't have the electric potato peeler, I have found popping them in the oven at a moderate temp for 12 minutes, helps to soften the out mesocarp skin. Then it is a case of removing by hand. A word of advice, use disposable plastic gloves to do this and a knife as the mesocarp has a sap that oozes into your skin and makes your hands brown ans smelly, which lasts for days. Then do the process as per the video. At the end I roast mine for 40mins in a low oven to really dry them thoroughly. Store in an airtight jar. Check regularly for signs of mould.
I appreciate this video, we have some but never harvested them. Unfortunately the ones they have are a prone to have a closed shell, but I'm gonna see what I can do with what we have!
I won't be doing an update video on the Orchard this year, but we've had good growth on the Pomegranate Trees and we just harvested more of the fruit. Been a good year.
I watched the classified's for a used potato peeling and finally got lucky. Agree the new ones are expensive and the used ones don't come up that often.
backyard grower here, can I space them to 10x10x10 feet apart? I don't have big machinery to worry, so that makes them about half of your setup, is it possible doable?
So my grandpa planted a bunch of pistachios on his property. They look like that, but i peel them on they never crack open. Dont think i ever seen one crack open. Just a soft shell i think, maybe hard, Havent been out there in a while
Thank you for the information. A friend has given me a five gallon bucket of harvested pistachios and now I know how to process them. 😊

Could you provide the manufacture information on the potato peeler? Having a hard time locating one that’s not ludacris expensive

How do you crack open the shell?
We run the Pistachios thru a Potato Peeler. That takes off the outer layer. The shells should crack by themselves while growing.
How do yu shake the trees
I use a window washer and rod. Shake each branch.
@@trailbreakfarms thank you

I think that would work. You might prune them to help. 15 feet would be better if you could

Roast at 250 for an hour and a half. Seems too long!!!
