Peter Cullen sounds amazing and he will always be the best. He has authority, power, and at the same time, that gentleness Optimus is known for in his performance. BUT WOW! I'm impressed by Alan Tudyk! He sounds like a more "normal" Optimus Prime, but still, has some of that authority, power, and gentleness Peter Cullen delivered with the G1 Optimus Prime! I'm genuinely impressed!!!

Yes, because it's obvious that Peter Cullen was born to voice Optimus Prime! Now Jake Foushee did imitate Peter Cullen's voice very well while voicing Prime in Transformers: Cyberverse until he screwed it up in the War For Cybertron Trilogy Netflix Series by talking a bit too slow, but at least Alan Tudyk is doing the right thing by doing his own rendition of his Optimus Prime voice while voicing Prime in Transformers: Earthspark, just like how Neil Kaplan who voiced Prime in "Transformers: Robots in Disguise", Garry Chalk who voiced Prime in the Unicron trilogy, and David Kaye who voiced Prime in Transformers Animated did their own thing.

That film series would actually serve as inspiration for the TV series with West/Ward. Conroy's Batman (which debuted in 1992?) takes inspiration from Keaton's Batman which had been released back in 1989 i think)

Alan's voice for Optimus actually made him sound elderly slightly, but I think that suits him, given he's meant to be a lot older in this series, like Megatron and such.
It's a voice I would kinda expect from alpha trion because of the elderly sound to it but it really works for optimus too. Alan Tudyk did a really good job of reinventing the voice
Agreed as a lot of his scenes are him being serious but also acts like a dad trying to be cool and hip with the kids while megs is more of the bad ass war hardened uncle who everyone loves and their dynamic in earthspark is the best (it was the whole reason I watched earthspark)

Much like the presence of voice actors portraying Batman in various media, there will always be individuals lending their voices to Optimus Prime. And I’m sure some of them will do a great job like Alan Tudyk. While keeping that Optimus quality, he did his own thing without trying to imitate Peter Cullen’s Optimus. That said, not taking any talent and skill away from others, Peter Cullen is the GOAT of all Optimus voices as much as Kevin Conroy was for Batman. They’re legends for their role for a reason. But that doesn’t mean I’m not open to seeing others try out the role. I’m always intrigued to see how others tackle it tbh.

Ok I’m sorry, but I just can’t get behind Alan Tudyk’s Optimus Prime. He just doesn’t have the same authority & experience that Peter Cullen has when he voices the character. Jake Foushee is ok, but I feel like he could’ve done a little bit better + the material he was working with was horrible.

Optimus will always be Peter Cullins masterpiece but different interpretations of Optimus are just as exciting as hearing Peter himself. I especially loved hearing Alans attempt, he's definitely creating a different vibe when talking and I find it fascinating.
Peter Cullen, Gray Chalk, and David Kaye will be the definitive voices to me. They all managed to perfectly fit the characterizations of their primes, with Peter being the old warrior, Gary as Primal, and David as a young Optimus just coming into his role as a leader.
The thing that makes a good Optimus Prime isn't trying to make him "Edgy" but in fact to make him sound Fatherly. When Peter Cullen came to establish Optimus, he based his performance on the suggestion that his brother Larry Cullen gave him on this exact same characterization, which subsequently was based on Peter's brother himself, as he stated. This is why Peter Cullen is unmatched, cause even when he voiced Optimus in the Bayformers and was then written to be a psychopath as the latest films came along, we heard the change that was not in the voice but in the character himself. Gary Chalk's performance in the other series was a weird militaristic uncle figure that was trying to be hip, making him sound weird, but still had some caring emotions. Sadly Jake Foushee on the Netflix scrap show sounded like a Temperamental Whiny unhinged robo-baby with a speech impediment that evoked NO authority at all, but also not even the wisdom and care of the fatherly persona that is a staple of Optimus. On this last point is where even when the voice is entirely different, Alan Tudyk excels greatly, giving the respect Optimus Prime deserves in the sense that though we may love Peter Cullen's iconic voice of Optimus, Tudyk plays more into the emotions and image of Optimus Prime more, the spirit of Optimus Prime, the father, the wise leader and the essence that Peter Cullen made Optimus to be so iconic.

The TFP version of Optimus will always be my favorite. He’s very wise but also kind of socially awkward, something he kept from his time as Orion Pax. He always has sort of a somber tone; I like to think it’s because of how much he’s lost and how much he wants to rebuild Cybertron, but doesn’t have the means to.
Alan is doing a pretty good job as Prime. It’s hard to walk in the footsteps of someone as iconic sounding as Peter is. But I like that he didn’t just go in and mimic the voice. It feels, to me at least, like a combination of Cullen’s Optimus and David Kaye’s Optimus. And that’s a smart way to approach it when taking a larger than life role like this. Do your thing, but also don’t weigh too much on the way the character sounded like in other iterations. Create a character that is true, but also your own. Put your stamp on it.
I think he did a great job at depicting a YOUNG/NEW Optimus. A humble Orion Pax who had literally JUST obtained the Matrix of Leadership and is still attempting to become worthy of being a Prime
When Jake's sounding more like himself than an impression of Peter Cullen he ironically sounds more like Optimus Prime. He has a very similar voice to that of Cullen 30 years ago. Listen to the original show and the 1987 movie again, Peter's voice was definitely different.
yeah was by far the worse sounding. Watching the netflix show was actually painful. The voice director failed him big time in that. Sounded like he was out of breath and he kept doing these....weird... pauses... to make.... his voice..... sound....deeper....

I actually quite like Foushee's take on it. He's following in the model of Cullen's original, but still giving it a nice twist. Tudyk sounds like he's doing an Optimus more like the TF:A; younger, a little more brash, almost like Rodimus from G1.
I love how we can also differentiate between the primes that cullen voices (e.g. g1, prime, and live action) you can easily tell blindfolded which one's which.
Man, the Netflix series could have been salvaged if they spent the slightest bit on actual union actors. Could have had a definitive G1 Beast Wars show of today.
Peter Cullen is my favourite Optimus prime but the other two aren't bad, Alan Tudyk's Optimus prime is really good so far (hard to believe he's Dutch lol). Jake Foushee was alright as Prime but I preferred him in Cyberverse.

I like Peter Cullen and Alan Tudyk Optimus Primes Voice more than Jake Foushee's Optimus Primes Voice. In Germany Optimus Prime have many Voice Actors: Willi Röbke, Hans-Rainer Müller, Thomas Rau, Tilo Schmitz, Pierre-Peters Arnold, Eberhard Haar, Bernd Vollbrecht, Reiner Schöne and Klaus-Dieter Klebsch.
We all agree that Cullen IS Optimus Prime. But Tudyk and Foushee did such amazing jobs as well. I enjoyed War for Cybertron Trilogy and his interpretation of Optimus is a mix between Cullen and something new. I sadly don’t know where to watch Earthspark but Primus be damned does Alan makes me want to!
Wow! I hadn't heard Alan's Optimus. I like that he is using his own take on the voice while capturing the essence of the character. Not trying to do a Cullen voice match. No DISRESPECT to those who do, because that's usually a director or producer decision to go with a unique take VS a voice match. But I'm still impressed.
I didn’t realize it before but the way Peter Cullen interprets Optimus compared to Alan Tudyk is very different. Yes they’re both powerful, authoritative, and gentle voices, but peter’s has a hint of regret and sadness. Like the time spent being a leader has showed him the darkest and lowest moments of life and the cybertronian condition in an eons long war. Like he wishes things went differently at various situations, be it how the war started or any close comrade he lost. Even the number of autobots that fought along side him that are now passed on. Alan has this confident voice that feels young and springy like a new leader. Full and ripe for experience. Still reminiscent of Peter’s work but done in his own way. Likely took inspiration from him to create the original voice Alan performs for Optimus. It’s a lovely touch and a fresh take on Optimus for fans to experience a new version of the character. And honestly I’m all for it cuz if a character is but the same every series then where’s the appeal? It’s like always ordering a frappe and trying out a cappuccino for the first time Btw I’ve always been a fan of peter’s performance for Optimus I think it’s a really great interpretation but new stuff is also great to experience to see different versions of the same story
Even if earthspark isn't what I want out of a transformers show I'm glad I got to hear Alan Tudyk as Optimus Prime. I hope he plays him in other projects in the future.
I like Alan's take on it. Clearly not trying to imitate Cullen, but instead injecting a bit of Cullen's gravitas into his own very expressive voice work.
I like all of the interpretations of Optimus but Peter Cullen will always be in my eyes the voice we all hear when we picture Optimus, he really did pull what Mark did when Mark Hamill voiced Joker, create a voice so fitting and Iconic that it became the main concept.

It works for War for Cybertron because this was Orion Pax who had JUST BECOME Optimus Prime. He still doesn’t know how to live up to his new title and position, he makes rather messy or downright incorrect decisions, and he is easy to snap under the pressure, all because he is not yet the Prime we know and love him as.

Peter Cullen: a veteran who wants to end the war in a non violent way, and a proud father figure. Alan Tudyk: a strong role model who does things after the war’s over, but still does heroic stuff. Jake Foushee: *Stubborn Hypocrite, who’s so angry, that he constantly begs his enemy for forgiveness, over his own actions, that he caused!*
Jake Foushee wasn't too bad in Cyberverse. The Netflix series was a madbot who not only forced the Decepticons hand in becoming more depraved in their actions, but also doomed the planet, nearly causing the extinction of the Cybertronian race.
While Peter Cullen will always be _the_ definitive voice of Optimus Prime, Jake Fousheee really captures that "Kind, Wise Leader" persona that made Cullen's voice so iconic. Alan Tudyk does an okay job, and for Earthspark it works, but feels a too _casual_ for a lack of a better term.
I wish you'd added some G1 Peter Cullen clips too, like him trash-talking Megatron. But overall, great comparison! Peter Cullen is wonderful of course. Alan Tudyk is also excellent and I like that he's not just doing a Cullen impression. Jake Foushee, imo the problem is he doesn't really do the "acting" part of voice acting, he just imitates Peter Cullen, but in a monotone. This was really apparent to me when I rewatched Cyberverse, because the other VAs were pretty solid and then . . . there was Optimus . . . performing each line with the exact same inflection no matter whether Optimus was supposed to be happy, sad, grave, etc.
The hardest part of voicing Optimus Prime is a paradox described by Peter Cullen; "Be strong enough to be gentle". No matter what, Optimus should never sound "angry". Even when he is in fact the single most intimidating thing in the room. He inspires awe, not fear. Even when is is staring you down with the weight of a world. When you fight for Megatron, you know that you will be far more afraid of him than of ANYTHING you might be fighting. When you fight for Optimus Prime, you are not afraid of anything.
Everyone will have there own first, there own favorite, so long as they hold good memories and perhaps seek out other versions for the sake of fun that's fine by me. They're all good in there own right

How do you feel about Alan Tudyk's voice for Optimus Prime and what are your thoughts on how it compares with Peter Cullen's 2010 voice in Transformers Prime and Jake Foushee's 2021 voice in the War For Cybertron Trilogy?
Totally lives up to Peter Cullen! I guess i was wrong when this show was announced. I thought Nick was gonna make the classic characters dirty. But they actually nail them!
I think Alan Tudyk actually sounds really good so far, feels like the sillier Optimus' from G1 and BW.
He's cool, I think he'll grow on me once I watch some more episodes of Earthspark.
Ok I’m sorry, but I just can’t get behind Alan Tudyk’s Optimus Prime. He just doesn’t have the same authority & experience that Peter Cullen has when he voices the character. Jake Foushee is ok, but I feel like he could’ve done a little bit better + the material he was working with was horrible.

Alan Tudyk is a treasure with his range of vocal performances. His voice is a leaf on the wind, listen to how it soars.
Yeah, it's Peter Cullen, no competition, just the power, emotion and authority in his performance just gives me chills.
Optimus will always be Peter Cullins masterpiece but different interpretations of Optimus are just as exciting as hearing Peter himself. I especially loved hearing Alans attempt, he's definitely creating a different vibe when talking and I find it fascinating.
Peter Cullen, Gray Chalk, and David Kaye will be the definitive voices to me. They all managed to perfectly fit the characterizations of their primes, with Peter being the old warrior, Gary as Primal, and David as a young Optimus just coming into his role as a leader.
The thing that makes a good Optimus Prime isn't trying to make him "Edgy" but in fact to make him sound Fatherly. When Peter Cullen came to establish Optimus, he based his performance on the suggestion that his brother Larry Cullen gave him on this exact same characterization, which subsequently was based on Peter's brother himself, as he stated. This is why Peter Cullen is unmatched, cause even when he voiced Optimus in the Bayformers and was then written to be a psychopath as the latest films came along, we heard the change that was not in the voice but in the character himself.
Gary Chalk's performance in the other series was a weird militaristic uncle figure that was trying to be hip, making him sound weird, but still had some caring emotions. Sadly Jake Foushee on the Netflix scrap show sounded like a Temperamental Whiny unhinged robo-baby with a speech impediment that evoked NO authority at all, but also not even the wisdom and care of the fatherly persona that is a staple of Optimus. On this last point is where even when the voice is entirely different, Alan Tudyk excels greatly, giving the respect Optimus Prime deserves in the sense that though we may love Peter Cullen's iconic voice of Optimus, Tudyk plays more into the emotions and image of Optimus Prime more, the spirit of Optimus Prime, the father, the wise leader and the essence that Peter Cullen made Optimus to be so iconic.

Did I even say bad at anytime? No, and subjectively, in fact I like Gary Chalk as Optimus Primal, because as I stated before, it is not Optimus Prime. And if you read carefully, I made clear distinctions on the interpretations of the character and in no moment I gave a bad indication that Gary Chalk was bad, but as Prime he is different, very different, especially since the Americanized translation of the shows' Japanese dialogue made the characterization weird.
It is a clear projection on your opinion that "You can't trust fans of Peter Cullen... Blah blah blah". If I had said that Gary Chalk was terrible, I would understand your complaining, but in light of what you say, it is clear that you are more subjective and cannot handle a simple expression without feeling like it's a personal attack.
Garry Chalk, David Kaye and Peter Cullen. Those guys solidified their version of Prime and they're still my favorites.

The TFP version of Optimus will always be my favorite. He’s very wise but also kind of socially awkward, something he kept from his time as Orion Pax. He always has sort of a somber tone; I like to think it’s because of how much he’s lost and how much he wants to rebuild Cybertron, but doesn’t have the means to.
Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime is what Kevin Conroy was as Batman. Others may do great but nothing can replicate the originals.

Alan is doing a pretty good job as Prime.
It’s hard to walk in the footsteps of someone as iconic sounding as Peter is. But I like that he didn’t just go in and mimic the voice. It feels, to me at least, like a combination of Cullen’s Optimus and David Kaye’s Optimus.
And that’s a smart way to approach it when taking a larger than life role like this. Do your thing, but also don’t weigh too much on the way the character sounded like in other iterations. Create a character that is true, but also your own. Put your stamp on it.

I think he did a great job at depicting a YOUNG/NEW Optimus. A humble Orion Pax who had literally JUST obtained the Matrix of Leadership and is still attempting to become worthy of being a Prime
When Jake's sounding more like himself than an impression of Peter Cullen he ironically sounds more like Optimus Prime. He has a very similar voice to that of Cullen 30 years ago. Listen to the original show and the 1987 movie again, Peter's voice was definitely different.
yeah was by far the worse sounding. Watching the netflix show was actually painful. The voice director failed him big time in that. Sounded like he was out of breath and he kept doing these....weird... pauses... to make.... his voice..... sound....deeper....
I honestly love his voice, I hope he is the next big Optimus Prime voice, his voice just feels like a younger Cullens, I have a good feeling that as the years progress, his voice will get better

I actually quite like Foushee's take on it. He's following in the model of Cullen's original, but still giving it a nice twist. Tudyk sounds like he's doing an Optimus more like the TF:A; younger, a little more brash, almost like Rodimus from G1.

I love how we can also differentiate between the primes that cullen voices (e.g. g1, prime, and live action) you can easily tell blindfolded which one's which.
Man, the Netflix series could have been salvaged if they spent the slightest bit on actual union actors. Could have had a definitive G1 Beast Wars show of today.

Peter Cullen is my favourite Optimus prime but the other two aren't bad, Alan Tudyk's Optimus prime is really good so far (hard to believe he's Dutch lol). Jake Foushee was alright as Prime but I preferred him in Cyberverse.

Peter Cullen is simply irreplaceable, and embodies the character Optimus Prime as a whole. If Cullen were to ever pass away though, then someone named David Poddany deserves to become the next Prime.
I like Peter Cullen and Alan Tudyk Optimus Primes Voice more than Jake Foushee's Optimus Primes Voice. In Germany Optimus Prime have many Voice Actors: Willi Röbke, Hans-Rainer Müller, Thomas Rau, Tilo Schmitz, Pierre-Peters Arnold, Eberhard Haar, Bernd Vollbrecht, Reiner Schöne and Klaus-Dieter Klebsch.

We all agree that Cullen IS Optimus Prime. But Tudyk and Foushee did such amazing jobs as well. I enjoyed War for Cybertron Trilogy and his interpretation of Optimus is a mix between Cullen and something new. I sadly don’t know where to watch Earthspark but Primus be damned does Alan makes me want to!

Wow! I hadn't heard Alan's Optimus. I like that he is using his own take on the voice while capturing the essence of the character. Not trying to do a Cullen voice match. No DISRESPECT to those who do, because that's usually a director or producer decision to go with a unique take VS a voice match. But I'm still impressed.

I didn’t realize it before but the way Peter Cullen interprets Optimus compared to Alan Tudyk is very different.
Yes they’re both powerful, authoritative, and gentle voices, but peter’s has a hint of regret and sadness. Like the time spent being a leader has showed him the darkest and lowest moments of life and the cybertronian condition in an eons long war. Like he wishes things went differently at various situations, be it how the war started or any close comrade he lost. Even the number of autobots that fought along side him that are now passed on.
Alan has this confident voice that feels young and springy like a new leader. Full and ripe for experience. Still reminiscent of Peter’s work but done in his own way. Likely took inspiration from him to create the original voice Alan performs for Optimus. It’s a lovely touch and a fresh take on Optimus for fans to experience a new version of the character. And honestly I’m all for it cuz if a character is but the same every series then where’s the appeal? It’s like always ordering a frappe and trying out a cappuccino for the first time
Btw I’ve always been a fan of peter’s performance for Optimus I think it’s a really great interpretation but new stuff is also great to experience to see different versions of the same story

From Frozen to transformers. He did play the Duke of Weseltown before this show but overall, its still awesome.
I like all of the interpretations of Optimus but Peter Cullen will always be in my eyes the voice we all hear when we picture Optimus, he really did pull what Mark did when Mark Hamill voiced Joker, create a voice so fitting and Iconic that it became the main concept.

It works for War for Cybertron because this was Orion Pax who had JUST BECOME Optimus Prime. He still doesn’t know how to live up to his new title and position, he makes rather messy or downright incorrect decisions, and he is easy to snap under the pressure, all because he is not yet the Prime we know and love him as.

Jake Foushee wasn't too bad in Cyberverse. The Netflix series was a madbot who not only forced the Decepticons hand in becoming more depraved in their actions, but also doomed the planet, nearly causing the extinction of the Cybertronian race.

While Peter Cullen will always be _the_ definitive voice of Optimus Prime, Jake Fousheee really captures that "Kind, Wise Leader" persona that made Cullen's voice so iconic.

I wish you'd added some G1 Peter Cullen clips too, like him trash-talking Megatron. But overall, great comparison! Peter Cullen is wonderful of course. Alan Tudyk is also excellent and I like that he's not just doing a Cullen impression. Jake Foushee, imo the problem is he doesn't really do the "acting" part of voice acting, he just imitates Peter Cullen, but in a monotone. This was really apparent to me when I rewatched Cyberverse, because the other VAs were pretty solid and then . . . there was Optimus . . . performing each line with the exact same inflection no matter whether Optimus was supposed to be happy, sad, grave, etc.
The hardest part of voicing Optimus Prime is a paradox described by Peter Cullen; "Be strong enough to be gentle".
No matter what, Optimus should never sound "angry". Even when he is in fact the single most intimidating thing in the room.
He inspires awe, not fear. Even when is is staring you down with the weight of a world.
When you fight for Megatron, you know that you will be far more afraid of him than of ANYTHING you might be fighting.
When you fight for Optimus Prime, you are not afraid of anything.
The second one was the best honestly here… along with the design as well
Everyone will have there own first, there own favorite, so long as they hold good memories and perhaps seek out other versions for the sake of fun that's fine by me.
