That would be true if the hammock hangs at the same angle as the guy line and the hub had to be straight up and down. As it is though, the slight offset actually helps neutralize the forces. Our first design 8 years ago was as you’re suggesting-this way is better.

I see a problem: There's an offset between where the anchor lines and where the hammock attach to the frame, producing a bending load.
