Dan is an admirer of Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of Iron Maiden. It was challenge to him to sing this song and he did it well. And, I love the look of this video, as well.
Dan just flipped to 911K subs during this song. I really hoped he’d get to a million before New Years! This is the perfect homage to Iron Maiden, Dan and Victor slay it! Thanks Sebs.
This is a song about someone witnessing something evil, and having it affect him (freak him out, question his sanity). It is not a celebration of evil.
As a Christian, I was taught as a child that this was "devil music" and couldn't listen to Iron Maiden, among many others. And, because Dan is a Christian, I was nervous when this came out as his follow-up to "Amazing Grace." Many of us old lady members of Vascnation held our breath. But, we watched the original, scrutinized the lyrics, prayed about it, and now, for the most part, we just appreciate the music, vocals, and fantastic video Dan and Victor created. It's very close to the original but more ominous. So are the times in which we live. You gave us a wonderful reaction to a fabulous video. Dan Vasc remains my favorite vocalist in the world. He's phenomenal! See you in the next one!
"So are the times in which we live." Exactly. Whether Dan meant to highlight the reality of evil with this song or not that's what I see. A powerful warning.
The warning was unheeded. In fact, they protested the song and voted for the skull & bones boys... On a lighter note, want a christian song from very long ago? Try Santa Maria, Strela do Dia. I'm fond of the Apollo's Fire version...
It’s Dan Vasc himself who has made me begin to appreciate metal music. He is SO freaking talented. I’m a classically trained singer and I’ve always had eclectic taste in music. When my friends were listening to Iron Maiden, I was already into Depeche Mode even here in the United States before it was popular. I said I’d never like metal, but my adult son recently started playing some here and there around the house, and it sounded good to me. I guess things change! I found Dan Vasc a couple months ago, and now I’m a goner.
God how I love the way he says this is real & not a fantasy. So expressive right from the get go. Loved the song by Dan. Loved your feedback about it!!
A few different Dan’s you haven’t been introduced to yet: Opera Dan (Nessun Dorma) Rock Opera Dan (Gethsamane) WTF was that? Dan (Bring me to life) Christmas Dan (Angels we have heard on high and Adeste Fidelis) Emotional Dan (Son of Pain) Love your reactions, have fun! ❤️
Mr Vasc has pu out only 2 videos so far this calendar year. He has taken us from one spiritual end to the other. This song is based on a dream ( nightmare ). Amazing vocals and guitar work . Beardos voice at the beginning chilled me .
@janeteitsworth8824 I did see that one. He also does engagements with his band and others. A busy fellow. Not a lot into his own channel but there is still a lot to appreciate there.
Sebs, I had never heard this song before Dan's cover. Took me a couple times to really appreciate it, but when I listened to the original I found I liked Dan's version better. It was interesting seeing how he changed the format of the video, after watching so many videos that were similar. I love your reactions, keep up the good work.
THE AUTHOR DREAMED OF AND TRANSFORMED INTO THIS CLASSIC. VICTOR PLAYS SO WELL, THAT UA-cam HAD BLOCKED IT FOR COPYRIGHT THINKING IT WAS IRON AND DAN PROVED IT WAS VICTOR AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE.TKSSS
Victor was so perfect at playing the guitar to the original it was held back from being released, glad it was let out it is power at its best, Dan was strong in vocals as always rocked it. ❤❤
When Dan first released this last month, I had to watch it several times to count the number of guitars that Victor was playing! Then counted the tracks and told my son "you've got to watch this". LOL Loved your reaction and going to look at the original Iron Maiden video. Really fun time! Thanks
someone has probably told you IM is based around a nightmare one of them had after watching The Omen, 2 I think it was.. so the original is a fantasy scene based around that Dan, well Dan does what Dan does great reaction as usual
Long time IM fan (yes I'm old as dirt) absolutely love this version by Dan, Victor and Fear the beardo.. Vincent Price the horror actor did the voice over back in the day (think he did the voice on MJ's Thriller too) the production is so good Dan had to prove it was an original work and not IM doing the music track.. The whole production is darker than IM's but all the better for it. The guys of IM should be proud of this cover.. 40 years later Dan brings it to a new audience..
Right I remember this song and have it memorized from when it originally came out love iron maiden it just shows that we're old but still have great taste in music
actually, Vincent Price declined to do the opening for this song. If you search "Who narrates the intro of Number of the Beast?" you will get the answer: The song opens with a spoken word passage, read by English actor Barry Clayton, which quotes Revelation 12:12 and Revelation 13:18.
IMO, if one feels solid and versed in their faith, discerning intents is a by-product. I’m old enough to have seen evil in church and found grace in hippie communes so… that being said I feel Dan is showcasing not only his phenomenal vocal prowess but wow, his theatrical expertise as well in this cover of IM. The ingenious positioning and lighting on his face to portray the diabolical was so creative to me. And Victor was flat out unbelievable. Thanks for another great reaction. 😊
Agreed! We can enjoy this song and all of the production that went into it without feeling like we have to analyze everything in it. I loved Iron Maidens version and now I love Dans. What a gift we have in people that can give us joy through music
Yet another song Dan elevated in every possible way, a phenomenal production. And I like that you read the credits before watching it, to know who participated. Not many reactors do that.
Elevated? This is one of the most legendary songs ever written/performed by the most legendary metal band in history. I'm not sure it can be elevated any higher.
Glad you enjoyed Number of the Beast. Definitely check out more Iron Maiden!! You’d really appreciate their music. They were the first band my dad ever took us to see (when I was 12 lol) and have been hooked ever since. Add them to your metal playlist. Here’s a few recs: Hallowed Be Thy Name (great for a reaction vid) Fear of the Dark Stranger in a Strange Land Wasted Years
Dan was copyright struck when he uploaded this. He won the appeal thank goodness. My very first concert was Iron Maiden in 1983. Saw them again in 1985 and then sometime in the last 8 years. Anyway, very long time Iron Maiden Fan. Dan was incredible as usual and Viktor sounded like the original. Simply amazing!!
Long time Maiden fan, got me through some hectic times, it's rare i'll sit through a maiden cover, let alone a reaction to one as it's hard to get the same raw power that Bruce can invoke. This was a brilliantly done cover and definitely did justice to the original in my opinion. Of course there are the usual maiden hits that seem to get circulated for reactions out there but for vocal power I strongly suggest checking some of Bruce's solo work such as 'Tears Of The Dragon' or 'Chemical Wedding' Some of his solo work do feature guitar work from members of Maiden as well. On a side note if you're looking for amazing guitar work that is next level, blow your mind sort of thing, check out Tommy Emmanuel, an Aussie Acoustic guitar god.
So glad you got to this Sebs! As far as comparing the original and Dan … I think there are many of us who find Dan’s vocals, nuances, energy and performances just so much more pleasing to our ears!
If you're looking for guitar heroes: Jeff Beck (born June 24, 1944 in Wallington, Surrey, † January 10, 2023 in Wadhurst, East Sussex). Beck played with John Mayall, The Yardbirds (Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck & Jimmy Page), Rod Stewart, Jan Hammer, Ozzy Osbourne etc... And Seymour Duncan made a series humbucker in the 1970s that bore Jeff Beck's name.
Much prefer Dan's version to the original - has more 'ooomph' (if I can say that) and even though he paid homage to the original, he just makes it sound better. Thanks for a great review and for checking out a bit of the original song.
Not to take away from Dan’s performance/version, it’s a great cover and the guy obviously admires Bruce (how could anyone NOT), but it’s certainly not better. It’s really not that hard to take a classic and ‘punch it up’, but when IM released NotB, it was most certainly more ‘oooomphy’ than anything else AT THAT TIME, save for maybe equal footing with ‘Screaming for Vengeance’ which came out several months after.
G'day Sebs, I'm lovin' watching all these God-squaders losin' their sh1t over a song about a nightmare from a scary movie 45-ish years ago... I think it's funny as, but then I'm a bent and twisted little number so yeah...🥴🤣 Daniel, on the other hand, has well and truly done justice to this one,,,as per usual. I'd love to know what Bruce Dickinson thinks of Dan's work, and also what Steve and the other boys think of Victor's work... I hope they are pleased and honoured by such brilliance. Dan and Victor deserve as many accolades as come their way, plus a whole lot more...😊🥰 🙃🐨🇦🇺
It’s kinda wild isn’t it? I respect people who’ve found faith, but when it starts veering into the merest hint of fundamentalist dogma is when I move on.
All I can say is that this was an a awesome video. The overall look, old & aged was great. And as always I think Dan does a phenomenal job. Shout out to Victor the Guitar Nerd and his always awesome work and to FearTheBeardo, The Legend 'Lock It In!' Hail♥🤘✝
Dan is my all time favorite vocalist. I have to say that I think Dan is a better singer than even Bruce Dickinson. The depth and power in his voice surpasses everyone. BTW, you are my favorite reactor! Keep up the good work Sebs. Merry Christmas.
I just found your channel and I will watch more. I have been an Iron Maiden fan since 1980. The cover song was pretty much right on, even the solos. You should check Fear of the Dark, Dancing with the Dead.
Iron Maiden is the GREATEST(live;)BAND in the world now and forever 🤘 If you dont believe me check out "Hallowed be thy name " live in Hammersmith 1982, and "Dance of Death" live, and "The Clansman" live, and "Sign of the Cross" live, and "When The Wild Wind Blows" also live, which is like a Shakespearean tragedy play😉 Seriously, off of Maidens 17 studio albums there are atleast 5 great songs off of each and everyone of them and is rabbit hole you will never forget, but you will kick yourself, because you didn't check them out before🤘 There are Rock/Metal bands us fans look up to, then there is Iron Maiden who other bands look up to👏 Up the mighty Irons!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
I think your reaction to Dan's cover is especially valuable because you directly compared it to the original. While Iron Maiden, as the creators of the piece, naturally earns our great appreciation, Dan has once again elevated it with his beautiful voice. The original Iron Maiden song was an affront to the establishment at that time.
Yes! I remember the hoopla but I didn't buy into it. I was just a kid who enjoyed the powerful music. I went to church so I read about it in Revelation. I remember thinking--- hmm --- this is scriptural 😊
What struck me about this was that Dan Vasc and Victor the Guitar Nerd highlighted the reality of evil with how they did this. I had never listened to the original; when I did I was struck by how it downplayed evil with all the fake monsters in the video. As a committed Christian I do not see this as celebrating evil; I see it as a strong warning and feel that's how Dan, Victor and Beardo emphasized that message in this. I understand the original song was written after a band member of Iron Maiden awoke from a dream. I think we need to be very wary of evil and its lure. I don't find that lure in this song. Its in other places, dressed up in a more appealing manner. I could go on. But I'll stop now. :D
Yes! You said it well. Thanks for your reaction sebs. I was waiting for your reaction to this, being a fellow Christian. Yes! Dans a christian too and is pointing out the evil out there that hides and waits. We know that it's there and we can rely on God to help us fight the beast
Yes, it's pretty close. Dang, that was such a good album. I listened to the original while attending one of those fundamentalist Christian colleges. Makes me laugh now. Everything was satanic back then if it had any edge to it at all.
OK, "Normally" I never bother with cover songs because more often than not, I'm beyond disappointed! This one I can admit is as good as Iron Maiden original, almost (I said almost!) better! Need to check these guys out now.
Dan is a talented artist and has done extremely well here and on other projects👏🤘 However, this makes me love Maiden ever more, because it is one thing to copy something, it is a completely different and a harder thing to come up with it originally, like maiden/Steve Harris did👏🤘 Up the mighty Irons!!!!🤘
Again Dan’s cover tops the original, it’s absolutely crazy. When he launched it, YT blocked it ‘cause “it was using the original version of the guitar”, so Dan had to explain it was actually Victor the Nerd playing and after some analysis YT released the cover…that’s the quality Dan delivers in every of his covers, he’s a perfectionist and he accepts nothing but the best, and that’s part of his growing success.
So you need more Iron Maiden in your life? Yes you do. You can call Bruce Dickinson a true man of the world. Most of their songs are about some historical events or are poems interpreted through heavy metal. Singer, poet, public speaker, jet pilot (yes they have their own painted up jet that Bruce actually flies on tour). He's also a cancer survivor and an olympic fencer. Strap yourself in and go on this ride into the rabbit hole ans get tols history through theatrical metal.
Fun fact for those who refer to Puritans. The Puritans were bitterly divided in the original American colonies. Yes, there were the Puritans of the common narrative. But, there was also an original American colony established by a Puritan whose charter was based on separation of religion and civil affairs, individual soul liberty (including anti-Christians) and freedom of expression. The first such society in human history. He was also opposed to the taking of native lands (wrote the King himself had no right to native lands) and tried to pass legislation abolishing slavery in the original colonies. In the 1600's. In America. A Puritan. Everyone in the colonies knew who he was along with most of the people in England and through his writings at the time, throughout Europe. Let all that sink in and then ask yourself, Self....how is possible that we all don't know such a thing? As a teen, he was the right hand of Sir Edward Coke, arguably the greatest jurist in English history, which meant he was present with Coke in meetings and arguments with the King in the King's court. He's even credited with establishing the first Baptist church in America. But screw him. No reason to know about that guy. Or Anne Hutchinson. A woman at the time who dared say God spoke to her heart as much as any man. That didn't go over too well in the Massachusetts Bay Colony so she was banished. A Puritan woman in 1600's America. We should keep her a secret. Great performance of one of the great songs by the way.
It us pretty heavy, but. I love thecway Dan and.Viktor did this. There are so many creative things about this version. You were wondering how the guitar playing measured up to the Iron Madian original. When it first came out You tube wouldn't let them use it because someone or some computer thought Dan had used the original sound track.. Dan was able to quickly fix their error.
Even today there are UA-cam reactors, who won't do a reaction to this song, because of the lyrics - it's so hilarious, because it's so misunderstood!!! And they get praised by their fans for 'standing their ground', when what they're actually doing is judging and labeling something they obviously don't understand. Just as those who freaked out about Dan's growl in 'O holy night' and called it demonic. Well, Dan fortunately has his own very direct no BS way of dealing with these people.
❤ this is better in my opinion than Iron Maiden's ... Dan just makes every song his in the covers.... while still paying homage to the original. Loved your reaction... thank you❤
I agree that Dans is better because of the power, but had I not seen this video I would have said " there's no way anyone could ever sing it better. Go figure. Dan has made a believer out of me
Solos are pretty spot on to the original album version. Just as close as the rest of the cover. If you love yourself some good old legato solos, Dave Murray from Iron Maiden is definitely your go-to guitarist. Recent live versions of Fear of the Dark and Brave New World has mind blowing solos. And that's probably a gross understatement.
Once again…Dan did a good version of a song…not 100% sure why he is praised so much, he is good..no one in my opinion will ever vocally beat Bruce Dickinson as a metal vocalist and Iron Maiden is the Best Metal band ever !!! Up the Irons !!!
eceIf you want to really get an Iron Maiden experience... check out the live version of either Hallowed be Thy Name or Fear of the Dark. Fear of the Dark was actually filmed in Chile at En Vivo.
This is a good cover of a song that is.... not one of the better Iron Maiden tracks (despite being one of the more commercially successful ones) - if you want to check out what Iron Maiden are really like, you need to check out something like Hallowed Be Thy Name or Fear of the Dark - live, preferably. And then just look at what the lead vocallist has achieved in his life....
I would definitely recommend more iton maiden. There is a great live version of hallowed be thy name its got 20mil views. Bruce Dickinson( lead singer) is about to release a new solo album in a few months and hes 64yrs old and has beat throat cancer still sounding like a bad ass
The big joke being, Number of the Beast is a warning. For a Iron Maiden reaction, can't possibly go wrong with Hallowed Be Thy Name at the Hammersmith, probably the best single performance captured during Bruce's long career. Up the Irons! 🤘🤘
Ok you need to do the original Iron Maiden Number of the Beast, Run To The Hills, Hallowed be Thy name (only do the live version from 1982 - it’s incredible!!)
I thought he did a fantastic job but I wish he got more creative with it. It’s basically a one-to-one copy of the Iron Maiden tune. Even the solo was note for note. He did a fantastic job and it sounds great but I would’ve liked to hear more of his expression in the song.
Finally! Someone has the balls to say it! Nobody is denying his vocals are great, but it’s not like he did much if anything with it. I may as well listen to the original - which is better anyway.
Dan is an admirer of Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of Iron Maiden. It was challenge to him to sing this song and he did it well. And, I love the look of this video, as well.

This guy did a bang up job, its not easy to cover Iron Maiden and actually acheive it well.
Yes you need to do more Iron Maiden and do it now!!
This is a song about someone witnessing something evil, and having it affect him (freak him out, question his sanity). It is not a celebration of evil.
Dan said on a podcast ( can’t remember which one) that YT tried to block because Victor played so spectacularly they thought Dan used original music.😊
As a Christian, I was taught as a child that this was "devil music" and couldn't listen to Iron Maiden, among many others. :D
I 💯 agree!. Well said!!
Yes! You said it well. Thanks for your reaction sebs. I was waiting for your reaction to this, being a fellow Christian. Yes! Dans a christian too and is pointing out the evil out there that hides and waits. We know that it's there and we can rely on God to help us fight the beast
The song is about a dream a band member has while watching the omen
I agree. I see it as a warning.
great reaction of Dan. What made this video more epic was Dan did it in black and white.
Oooh. So edgy. 🙄
He’s my favorite vocalist too. Glad you’re reacting to his music.
Dan plus Victor = magic .
Yes, it's pretty close. Dang, that was such a good album. I listened to the original while attending one of those fundamentalist Christian colleges. Makes me laugh now. Everything was satanic back then if it had any edge to it at all.
Satanic Panic!
close enough to get them temporarily demonitized
😱 “…DEMON!!!!”
*Runs to the hills
OK, "Normally" I never bother with cover songs because more often than not, I'm beyond disappointed! This one I can admit is as good as Iron Maiden original, almost (I said almost!) better! Need to check these guys out now.
Dan is a talented artist and has done extremely well here and on other projects👏🤘
However, this makes me love Maiden ever more, because it is one thing to copy something, it is a completely different and a harder thing to come up with it originally, like maiden/Steve Harris did👏🤘
Up the mighty Irons!!!!🤘
I’m back to watch this one again it is September 9 2024 this never gets old Vasc Nation ❤️
Definitely react to Iron Maiden, songs I would recommend 'Hallowed be Thy Name', 'Fear of the Dark', '' and 'Dance of Death' to name but three!
Dan's version of the Trooper is 💥
It's bang on dude..WOW this brought back veeeeery pleasant memories👍 I'm 60yrs old and remember my mom being possessed😂😂
Victor did such a great job the song got demonetized because they thought they used the original music. Dan had to appeal. It is a great cover.
You need to watch the real Iron maiden, this guy is good but there's only ONE Iron maiden
When you do delve into Maiden...
2 things...
1 You'll want more
2 Make sure you review them LIVE
So you need more Iron Maiden in your life? Yes you do. You can call Bruce Dickinson a true man of the world. Most of their songs are about some historical events or are poems interpreted through heavy metal. Singer, poet, public speaker, jet pilot (yes they have their own painted up jet that Bruce actually flies on tour). He's also a cancer survivor and an olympic fencer. Strap yourself in and go on this ride into the rabbit hole ans get tols history through theatrical metal.
Excellent cover…….must follow👍
Thank you. You know si much about Das style. Love the final posture with one arm stretched out and his hair hanging. Down
Fun fact for those who refer to Puritans.
Everybody could use more Iron Maiden. Watch them in concert, though.
If you like Dan Vasc's voice you need to react to him singing Nessun Dorma
Loved your reaction... thank you❤
No way is this better than Maiden.
@@brianlafrazia8237 😁👍 Iron Maiden is awesome
Agreed- While I've seen and enjoyed Iron Maiden, Dan Vasc has much more powerful rich vocals!
I agree that Dans is better because of the power, but had I not seen this video I would have said " there's no way anyone could ever sing it better. Go figure. Dan has made a believer out of me
Great Reaction
I must say, he did a very good job, Bruce Dickinson is hard to follow, a very wide vocal range. Sounds dead on!
Thanks Sebs!
gotta love "the human air raid siren" Bruce Dickinson
Solos are pretty spot on to the original album version. Just as close as the rest of the cover.
If you love yourself some good old legato solos, Dave Murray from Iron Maiden is definitely your go-to guitarist. Recent live versions of Fear of the Dark and Brave New World has mind blowing solos. And that's probably a gross understatement.
Dan's closing in on a million subs
yes check out the fulll iron maiden version. the pull up "The Trooper" and melt your face off lol. Dan is awesome.
Once again…Dan did a good version of a song…not 100% sure why he is praised so much, he is good..no one in my opinion will ever vocally beat Bruce Dickinson as a metal vocalist and Iron Maiden is the Best Metal band ever !!! Up the Irons !!!
Yeah, I really don’t get it either. Different strokes for different folks I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There's always Raphael Mendez....
EDIT: Sorry, you said "beat", not "match". Mendez doesn't beat Dickinson, but he matches him. Very closely.
eceIf you want to really get an Iron Maiden experience... check out the live version of either Hallowed be Thy Name or Fear of the Dark. Fear of the Dark was actually filmed in Chile at En Vivo.
Dan Vasc sang it way better , by far.. Love all his songs!!!❤
If you're going to check out more iron maiden I would say running to the hills and gallows both of them are awesome songs and have meanings
Masterpiece 🔥
Damn good cover. Now watch Iron Maiden's Trooper video.
It was so close to the original, UA-cam Thought it Was the Original!!
I just watched your reaction to O'Keefe Music Foundation cover of Tool (a little late, I know). Now you have to react to their cover of this.
Trooper by Iron maiden is amazing.
Hey brother, I'm 64yrs young, grew up listening to Iron Maiden and love their music. But you're right,,Dan sang it better
Dan does well, but Bruce is significantly better. You need to check out iron maiden doing this
Of course he souds great! Great cover! I miss a little the variance in his notes.
But can he fly a boeing 757 or 747??? 😅
I love Iron Maiden. But I love this Cover 🙀❤️🔥🇨🇦⚜️😈
React to theoriginal. This was a fine cover but the original is much better
Please do lots of Iron Maiden!
I would love to see what Victor looks like!! You NEVER get to see his face!!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤DAN VASC espetacular ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I would love to see you react to, The Comatose Brothers (feat AJ Lee) Angel Band
Beautiful voice ♥️♥️♥️
Very impressive job this guy does. You just listen and not watch I would have sworn that was Bruce Dickinson singing.
This is a good cover of a song that is.... not one of the better Iron Maiden tracks (despite being one of the more commercially successful ones) - if you want to check out what Iron Maiden are really like, you need to check out something like Hallowed Be Thy Name or Fear of the Dark - live, preferably. And then just look at what the lead vocallist has achieved in his life....
a lot better, stronger even then the original ... in my opinion ...
The answer is always.
