- Massive #tornado with multiple vortices rips down windmills and damages homes in Iowa including Greenfield, Iowa. Dominator FPV drone orbited the tornado racing northeast at 55 mph. Dominator 3 could have directly intercepted this tornado. Major tornado outbreak underway
I think the vortices had vortices. That thing was nuts.
That's what I was thinking too. Like how many vortices are in this one storm??? It's gotta be a new record...

Absolutely amazing!
A multi vortex tornado, this was the type of tornado that generated the photo "The dead man walking",If you see this it is actually a sign of extreme danger as this normally only forms in F4 or F5 tornadoes

If you've never seen a wind turbine before, they're enormous. This monster tore through them like they were trees. This is some of the best tornado footage in history. Well done.
I've seen one of those blades on the back of a semi flatbed in Eastern Washington. They are unbelievably massive.
I'm surprised that those turbines didn't move a little faster with a tornado coming at it.
I'm in western IL and there's farms everywhere throughout West-Central and Central Illinois. They store the blades and the tower sections on the grounds of an old factory that's since been leveled. The blades barely fit on flatbeds and they have to close off the when they move anything. Tower sections are also massive, as are the turbine hubs. I hope seeing the way a middle of the road tornado absolutely shredding that wind turbine blade and collapsing the structure gives people an appreciation for the awesome power of a tornado.
@@LethalSaliva they lock the blades up when winds get too high to keep them from being damaged.
@@wyrdo1501 that makes sense
Tornados could never do that to hydroelectric damns! Good job!
My husband asks... "is he yelling because he's scared? I replied "I don't know, he's always yelling". 🤣🤣
🤣😂
Probably yelling to be heard over the roar of the tornado.
Adrenaline.
That never happend.
Excitement 😂
It was so uniquely bizarre that it looked like something you'd only see in a movie. This is incredible footage.
Yeah it's CGI that's why......
Just joking 🤣🤣🤣🤣Reed does an incredible job tracking filming and getting data from tornados
Hi, Oh ho - there's much more to come yet that is - way beyond bizarre - and surpasses even the Most imaginative Sci - Fi Movie Genre. 🙃
@@norfolkngood8960 Are they collecting data for science purposes? It would be nice, if they did and not just wanted to film those bizzare tornados for our curiosity.
@@elale8016 Do you even know Reed is? He literally dedicated his life on researching tornadoes and he has PhD in the field. Also this video is basically important as you can see subvortices on the tornado which is not common at all, which it helps to understand tornadoes more.
@@MonLyica No, I didn't know, thank you!!! It appeared to me, as if they were somewhat professionally hunting a tornado out of obsession, adrenaline rush and media footage to sell, but now I understand, why they were taking risks.
I hope their car is very sturdy and can withstand debris hitting it, since it looked dangerously close and it occurs, that researchers don't get as good equipment as they would require.
As I think about it, I realize, if he has a PhD, he must be having the best, refreshed forecast data that there is and that's hopefully reachable in those moments, can analyze their collected data with his experienced knowledge on the go, hopefully allowing them to make better predictions were it could be safe for them on the road and where and when they could stop to collect more data.
But I was wondering, why they had no better camera then to catch the footage, as it would be important, I guess. I hoped, the better cameras would be mounted on top of the vehicle, but the rain might be a problem there.
But why were they so often yelling to close the window? Because of the danger of debris? Because of the rain? And why had they no headsets (maybe integrated in helmets, so the microphones could do better jobs at filtering the wind sounds), in order to not needing to constantly yell at each other. They must have sore voices, when they get home.
I'm glad, that they're doing such an important job.
Came across this randomly & I'm no expert on tornado footage but this is the most powerful capture of the energy in tornados . . . that I have ever seen. Get rid of all the radio yakking and just capture wind noises. Tornado noises. Really nice.
This may genuinely be some of the most clear and terrifying video of a large multi vortex tornado I’ve ever seen. Definitely top 3
I was just thinking the same thing.
It was incredible, but I'm sure glad to be thousands of miles away from it! On a different note, I wish Reed had been in Dominator 3 so they may have tried an intercept.
I've seen probably all the multi vortex videos and nothing compares to this. This is out of this world. Might be a first how many spawned in that.
The damage to windmills is severe. Should there be stricter construction standards to withstand such forces?
@@visiontv68 from my very limited knowledge the construction is already relatively strict. My question is how could you get something that tall (with not that much area and only one point of contact) to withstand such an event.
I can say, with confidence, this footage will be looked back on forever. This is UNREAL footage. Thank you for your dedication, Reed!
It's the most incredible thing I have ever seen.
Agreed!
If he would stop screaming into the mic like at 0:59 it would be a lot better

They're called "Whirlwinds" in the Bible.
Why does Reed Timmer always sound like this is the first time he's seen a tornado? He really needs to switch to a decaffeinated version of whatever it is he drinks before he goes out chasing.
He's his own hype man. It sells, so he does it.
Translation: 🙂
Unroll it = roll window down
Windmill = Wind turbine
(And windfarm)
Translate roll down window to modern language= press the button in downward motion in the bottom lower position, to lower window to the OPEN mode. Rolling window winder arm is no longer a thing, but played an important role in historical American societies attempts to either catch a breeze, or to better view and hear a tornado, but it's more obsolete with the modern invention of "the toggle switch, aka "the button." They've been working on it for a long time.
YES!! It was like if a dozen tornados spun around to make one giant tornado monster!
It's not a mutli-vortex tornado. The parent vortex' wind pattern meets slower, more humid air on the exterior. His camera angle is aided by approaching from NNE (sunlight side)

@@midwestmike613 Turbines that surround me in SW MO are 605 ft and the ones planned just a few miles further are 768. Straight wind is different from a tornado though, remember that. This footage goes far beyond "wow, tornado" - there is significant science in this footage, and I'm certain Reed is stoked. Congratulations to the team for this likely unprecedented footage.
this has more vorticies (that i know of) of the el reno of 2013, ofc vorticies do not equal strength but it definitely shows that this is possibly one of the most important tornadoes in history due to this footage alone- the fact it was semi-photogenic and had several vorticies means meteorologists could use this footage to learn more about how multi vortex tornadoes work.
@@The_Joshuan_Empire I speculate that most tornadoes are actually composed of smaller vortices internal to the outer condensation & debris cloud of the main rotating funnel. Sometimes this is seen in tornadoes where the large external condensation/debris cloud thins out enough to see into and partially through the tornado.
This tornado also seemed to have vortices on the outside of the main large & opaque rotating funnel. This does make some sense as the air next to the main funnel rotates in an opposite direction like a high pressure next to a low pressure, except this is on a much smaller scale, and because the rotation is so compact & wind is so fast, it gets broken into many adjacent regions of smaller vortices to compensate for the rotation of the main funnel vortice.
