- Dominic Calvert-Lewin's late strike from the penalty spot earned Everton a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at St James' Park.
The Blues fell behind after 15 minutes when Alexander Isak latched on to a lofted pass and prodded into the far corner of the net.
But the Toffees toiled and, following a triple substitution on the hour mark following a VAR check to deny the hosts a second goal of the night, were much-improved in the second half and eventually got their equaliser two minutes from the end when Calvert-Lewin dispatched a spot-kick.

They boo Jordan as he is an ex Sunderland player. Great tactics by Sean, doubling up Ashley and Ben to snub out Harvey Barnes. The substitutions were pivotal. The midfield was awful but James and Andre turned that around. Talk about last man standing,Vitaliy was faced by Isak with the whole goal to fire at. Vitaliy stood firm, no panic and cooly headed the shot from the striker. Great display from him. Good to see Seamus after Saturday, DCL looking determined to score that pen. Great strike. With all that said the stand out performance was from England's number 1 Jordan Pickford. Magnificent. COYB
Everton were quite lethargic in the first half but stepped up during the second half, thanks to the substitutions, too.
And great to see Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the scoresheet, after a while!
