Never heard of this guy but we hunted the loop in the 70s. We spent more time in the woods than the bars

Loop Road Update! 7/15/2020. I drove from Clearwater, Florida down to Cypress to drive on the Loop road and then to visit Clyde Butchers gallery. I entered Loop road and decided to turn around after 1500 feet, just past the gun club. This unpaved "natural" road is full of rivets and potholes and it is impossible to exceed 10 mph. So the trip would take you an entire day if you could tolerate being tossed all over your vehicle. I arrived in a all wheel Subaru but the road will pound your suspension. I would never even consider driving my truck on this road. So I was disapppointed about this. Next, Clydes business was closed on Wednesday! Another let down but Everglades City made up for it. Very quiet town off season. I'm certain everyone knows everyone else. Nevertheless, interesting things to see and of course Air boat tours rule the landscape. Enjoy! I will definitely go back and I'll take this route next time to Miami from Napes as opposed to Alligator alley. Great drive!

Any updates on your venture to loop road? Sorry so late on replying as i just saw this but you could have entered through the paved road on the other end of loop road straight to Lucky Coles and other areas without any dealings with pot holes and such.

@@thomasdias4223 Hello to you. Well I did take a friend down to Clyde's place last September however I did not try the road again. Once I venture down again I'll check the road out from the other side as you suggest!

@@urhiredhr421 Excellent. If you are coming down from Naples or west to east drive passed the old Monroe station which no longer is there I was told .but that's where you probably went through first but if you keep driving eastward you will turn right at the 40 mile bend. Entering from there you will see Miccosukee indian homes to your left .you will also pass by the old station where Al Capone had his casino . Couple of camping sites which are closed now and then few more miles to Lucky Cole but about a mile or so after that it turns to dirt road again. Have fun .

We were just driving home from the keys this week and saw the road and attempted driving it trailering our boat. That's wasn't fun AT ALL.
What WAS interesting is driving backwards with the boat lead to a zig-zagging pattern, which nearly eliminated the endless shaking.
So if you're going to drive it, do an S shape pattern. Do it backwards for best results. 😂
I don't understand why they have a couple thousand tons of gravel at the start of the road but they haven't used it for repairs🤷‍♂️

Used to take the kids out to loop road in a Honda Civic (don’t need to 4x4!) back in the ‘90’s and go fishing… One time, tons of “coo-ing”; was about 200 ibis all walking and feeding amount the cypress, talking to each other! Another time a cold snap killed tons of fish and they’re all floating, but hadn’t started smelling/rotting yet… So peaceful among the Cypress trees!!

Beautiful country back there. I’d be surprised if you can drive a conventional vehicle back there anymore. Last time I drove the loop, it looked like they were doing artillery practice on it. Lol.
Was once approached by law enforcement back there while fishing. Checked my license and told me to watch out for “Bigfoot”. Lol. I asked him if he was serious and he said yes. I am gave a look like he was putting me on. Low and behold, I never saw the elusive beast. lol

Awesome vid...Grew up in Miami in the 60s & 70s (58 y/o lifelong South Floridian🇺🇸) and had heard some of the tidbits about Loop Rod from a family friend that was also a family member of one of the few families that were grandfathered in as residents within the Everglades National Park.
Cant imagine you guys finding a better song to cover than "What's Up" by Four Non Blondes for your video.
Didn't know Gregory but my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Glad you enjoyed the video! It's been a wild ride covering the glades, we've managed to connect with several family members that were either grandfathered or simply removed by NPS. We hope to cover as much as we can for our fans.

@@FloridaReel If you would like I can give u the name of the family that was grandfathered in and have property within the Everglades National Park. I'm sure they would have some fascinating stories after being out in the Everglades for as long as I can remember and I'm 58y/o and the members of the family I grew up with were the second and third generation's of that family to be out there. I think this series of videos you're producing not only make for fascinating viewing but are essential for maintaining and preserving our history rich legacy of South Florida. With our parents and grandparents generations fading away its important that we draw out as many of these fascinating stories as possible and as soon as possible. Thank you guys🇺🇸

About a year ago i gave you a name and number for the Matson family which is one of the last families that was grandfathered in to be able to live in Big Cypress,.i was wondering if you ever got ahold of him.
    Stay safe.

We hunted the loop back in the 60's. Snakes, Snapping Turtles and Alligator Gar were plentiful. Occasional bobcat....We we popped out on the other end of the loop, we headed back to Miami on US41. Got my first speeding ticket on 41. 85 in a 55 by an FHP dude who was really pissed when I didn't pull over. The guy was parked on the side of the road ahead of me, so I did not think he could have clocked me. Watching him scramble to get in his car through my rear view mirror....The other FHP in the airplane is the one who clocked me...Still laughed my ass off watching him coming after me with guns a blazing...
