  • Second part of project "Okinawa - new world, old tradition".
Indeed Okinawa is a paradise. There is a reason why every 5 years Okinawans who have long left their homeland come back to become a part of their island.
Demonstrations of karatedo and traditional Okinawan dances, goods market from all over the World, colourful processions and of course music. All this makes a true spirit of Okinawan people.
Soak up the atmosphere of Asian carnival!
First movie for my new documentary series about culture and martial traditions of Okinawa:
Okinawa - new World, old traditions.
Traditional Okinawan dances and festivals, night life and a lot of karatedo and kobudo. Demonstrations of the leading World known masters, history of different schools and various training methods. Everything you ever wanted to know about true Okinawan Martial Arts.
These documentaries are for true followers of Martial Arts.
    Part 1
    Kyudokan. One World.
Okinawan karatedo has become a part of the World Cultural heritage. All over the World millions of people practice karatedo spending a lot of time, money and applying enormous efforts to understand traditions of an alien culture and a foreign country.
What makes them to undergo such a long and difficult path?
Movie where the past meets the present and the present draws power from traditions.
Shorin-ryu Karatedo Kyudokan as a personification of the spirit and traditions of Okinawan karate.
This movie is a gift for all the followers of Okinawan traditional martial arts where every single moment is devoted to karatedo.

Thank you so much for making this movie and then for sharing it. I will have to say, when you said that 'you better not come to Okinawa if your heart and soul are closed' brought instant tears to my eyes. Thank you.

Watch videos of actual fights, how many times are jumping kicks used? Zero. Why teach them if their use is improbable? Why teach them if some students will never be able to do them. This is Shotokan karate, not native to Okinawa but native to mainland Japan and corrupted to Japanese Budo concepts. These men are good athletes but they apply poor martial arts concepts and send a poor signal to others as a martial artist will NOT do things that inordinately endanger themselves but will study endlessly how to injure another quickly, powerfully and effectively. How do I know? Past Shotokan practitioner, turned away from a sporting focus to Okinawan karate, a true martial art.

Shotokan is not realy native to japan but it came from Okinawa brought to mainland by Funakoshi from Okinawa. His later students introduce modification but I think it is still 80 % Okinawan traditional karate.
