The sound of the Sunday afternoon cassettes in the kitchen as the blackeye peas cooked slowly. This was part of the background music of Growing up Black in London. Precious times.

You're right, some bass riddims just stick in your memory for decades and yu never forget the first time you. "love rocked" to a special bass line. Innit??
Blast from the past.Boom shot.Great horns and rhythm section arrangements and bass line plus the voice of the great Pat Kelly and finished off by Ranking Trevor
You're right about missing his unique voice. And i don't think we'll hear his kind of outstanding voice again. Why? Well Pat Kelly and his peers from the 50s and 60s eras were one of the last generation who grew up on diets consisting mainly of yams, green banana, cassava bread, banana porridge and so on. What does that have to do with his voice? You may well ask. Well, if you consider that we are influenced by many cultural things, food included. Then his unique beautuful vocal tone was influenced by his food also. As such he had a Jamaican foods influenced voice!!😯🤔 Yes!! In that respect he had what I call a yam and green banana voice, as did Gregory, Horace, Brent and so on, powerful, strong and expressive voices, that so suited the cultural vibes of reggae. I hear that young people don't want to eat what they may regard as, slavery foods or poor people food. The outcome then is whole sections of younger generations have lost those earthy sweet tones influenced by those foods. It's just my theory, but if we eat certain things it influences many aspects of our being. And if we don't eat certain things we are inversely affected in other ways and so on...
Still sweet indeed. Yet not as sweet as it did 50 years ago when I had my girl in my arms, and we were rocking to these kinds of tunes at a weekend party. 🔊🎶👫🏿👥❤💚💛🎛😀
Please listen to "HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE " ONE OF THE GREAT VOCAL PERFORMANCE and THE LATE PAT KELLY has left us a whole heap of hits to play from now till the twentieth of never. THE BLACKSTONES
